WTP Review: Hasbro Family Game Night

If you miss the old family get togethers of yore, then Electronic Arts and Hasbro have just the thing for you. Hasbro Family Game Night brings together five classic board games into one package; Connect 4, Battleship, Sorry!, Yahtzee, and Boggle, and livens things up with a number of new features and some variations on the games we all know and love. To further the fun retro vibe, the game nights are hosted by none other than Mr. Potato Head, who offers tips and hints throughout the game.

The traditional board games are just as you remember them, playing in the exactly same way. You pick out words in Boggle, roll dice in Yahtzee, and match up rows of four or more in Connect 4. The shift to the digital space means that the scoring and timers are all controlled via the in-game computer, meaning that pesky cheaters are out of luck. Family Game Night also adds new and updated versions of your old favorites. These updates change up the rules slightly to help breathe new life into the board games. For example, Connect 4 Power Chips is given a more video game-like makeover with the addition of multipliers, shields, and other power-ups, which add an arcade game feel to the classic. The collection also features a brand new board game, Sorry! Sliders, which features slides that can propel players closer to Home, and a giant motorized wheel in the center of the board. These tweaks make it feel like a whole new experience.

This is the second time this deal has come around so if you didn't get the games the first time now would be a time to complete the collection. Suprised I haven't seen any deals on MS point cards. I think the main reason for this sale is that the new FGN3 is not coming to XBLA, at least it hasn't been announced. Personally I have played the new one and would not buy more than Life, Yahtzee Hands Down, and maybe Mouse Trap. Definately not worth the full disc price. Sorry Hasbro but bad move leaving the FGN XBLA fans in the dust.

Is this the deal of the week or the deal of the supposed price tag week?
