WorthPlaying: Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle Review

WorthPlaying writes: "Strategy games often end up working very heavily in the abstract, with a game representing a single battle in detail as a scenario, such as Warcraft and every game in the umbrella that's formed around it. Less frequently, a work goes out and handles battles only abstractly, instead emphasizing the building and maintenance of an entire society, such as Sid Meier's classic Civilization series. Only rarely do we see a game that tries to handle both scales effectively together, and most frequently, when it's done well, it's done by Koei. The company's staff seems to consist of black belts in the art of sequels, with their seminal Romance of the Three Kingdoms series now going on 11 games that cover the same era of Chinese history and Dynasty Warriors reaching insane counts with its Samurai Warriors and Gundam spin-offs, Warriors Orochi crossover and ludicrous number of ports."

Is this the same one that got a physical release in Japan? There's a new Nobunaga game coming for PS3 and Vita this month in Japan, but I can't remember the name.

GamersInfo Review – Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle

GamersInfo writes: "Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle can be split into two paths. The first is the more popular path, in which you have a group of allies you direct to destroy all enemies a la Shining Force. The second path follows the old board game Risk, in which you attempt to conquer the field. This method has been attempted several times with varying results. Not many gamers are aware of console-based strategy games, such as the old Caesar games on the Sega Genesis and Gemfire, which has you trying to conquer an island to free the citizens from a corrupt ruler. Those are the major games that stick out in my mind. Koei is adding another to the mix: Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle."

PSX Extreme: Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle Review

PSX Extreme writes: "Some of you pessimists out there will say Koei is stuck in a rut that stretches back to the previous generation. There's a seemingly endless stream of action/strategy titles that always use a similar feudal Japan setting, and it's a premise that the Western gaming crowd has never quite embraced. They started to with the original Dynasty Warriors, but that was over eight years ago and…well, things appear to be old and stale. On the other hand, there's a select group of fans who enjoy Koei's continued efforts, and provided you have a meticulous nature (if you're a Koei follower, you probably do), Nobunaga's Ambition: Iron Triangle is for you. But as usual, this one is specifically designed for the hardcore aficionados out there; if you've never before indulged in such an experience, you may want to pass. There's a whole lot of depth, not a lot of flash, and enough classic strategy involvement to keep you occupied until kingdom come. If this is your bag, pay attention."
