You 2 guys underestimate other games and overestimate this game. Give IW a fair chance to battle against GG. Competition is a good thing for us gamers after all and IW has a proven track record to boot.

The article binges way too much on the Warzone aspect and graphical aspects. Graphics alone do not make a great game. Great gameplay w/ great graphics however, does. If GG pulls a Criterion and supports KZ2 throughout the year with free goodies and expanding stuff, I can see KZ2 win a couple of awards here and there.

But if this article suggests anything, it's that other developers better pick up the slack. I want co-op and split-screen in my shooters people!

No doubt this (KZ2) will be one of the better games of 2009, but to praise GOTY because of some pimply faced pre-teen with a keyboard says so really says how far gaming journalism has gone down the toilet over the past few years.

Personally I think its going to be a PS3 game this year, unless COD:MW2 is EPIC, but its got a lot of pressure to be good, and i dont think it will be as good as COD4, and even Killzone 2. Uncharted has a real big chance, as long as its better than the first, and the first was unbelivable.

Oh and lets not forget Halo:ODST, i personally believe it will be the same old Halo 3, and wont get the good reviews and goty, but it will get epic sales numbers.....

COD MW2 will launch at the end of this year. And it'll tear up KZ2. Just because its made by Infinity Ward. KZ2 ain't so great by the way. Played it, SP and a little MP. SP has some nice edges, but totally forgettable by being generic and forgettable surroundings/storyline. MP is borrowing on a lot of shooters and their ideas but never really gets better then were its borrowed from.

COD MW2 will be shooter of the year, maybe not overall game of the year, that depends what is released the rest of this year exactly.

Actually I thought the multiplayer was brilliant.You don't play a little.When you check out the Tactician and Scout classes,the game gets rolling fast.

I play SNiper Duels on Pyrrhus Rise with the Cloak and Spot/Mark abilities.Truly some epic battles in the multiplayer for Killzone 2.

I really like Killzone 2, however the writer of this opinion piece is definitely underestimating Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Killzone 'borrowed' a lot from Call of Duty 4 (as did a lot of other shooters) and we need to see what Infinity Ward will do to up the ante. I am a very hardcore gamer (who is good at all FPS games) and do not think Call of Duty a 'kiddie' shooter. I think those who say that are just bad at the game! Especially if you complain about auto-aim..it doesn't help almost at all and you can turn it off!

I have multiple reasons. 1) it's still March, way too early to lay a claim like this, even for KZ2. 2) Developers have a chance to make a better campaign than this one. Rico is a useless pain, any of your AI buddies could be replaces with a bullet resistant deer and serve the purpose and the design is built on cheap, not challenging. This leads to frustration, not fun. It seems like GG thought that making segments of difficulty the likes of the Spartans in their last stand in 300 is fun. It's not. It's not like they did it once, they did it at least 3 times. This is not how you make a fun, challenging game. This is how you take away from a nearly perfect game. The flaws in design are so major and blatant that they cannot be over looked. the gratification for finally beating it does not justify the difficulty. The frustrating anger still remains. That's the difference. When you beat a challenge, you feel like pounding your chest, pumping your fist in celebration. With this, you feel like putting your controller down, flipping GG the bird and turning off your PS3 for the night. Then going on N4G and giving the game the verbal bashing it so earned over the last 3 hours you played the same %#^%$! level with no sense of accomplishment. Thanks GG. I am prepared for whatever may come, disagrees, hate messages, whatever. I NEEDED to vent that off my chest. Thanks for listening fellow gamers. I think we all have been here.

When the smoke and the overhype clears, Killzone 2 will not even be the top PS3 FPS. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is going to mop the floor with Killzone 2. It will outsell it, it will have a higher Meta-rating, and the SP (which will be Infinity ward's 1st co-op COD) and the MP are going to outshine K2 in almost every way. See K2's graphics are by far the best achievement it has to offer. Wait till games with better gameplay come out from September thru December.

I don't play FPS's alright use to play a lot including that crap Halo series. This game is by far the best FPS I have ever played. The A.I is amazing the graphics are superb, physics are awesome some times it seems sketchy but doesn't let you down. Story mode is great not just the story the whole way the game plays is AMAZING. I am always on my PS3 and every single friend I have is playing this game and comment usually consists of how awesome this game is.
Not to mention the online is just ah great. It's the first FPS I have ever truly played online religiously. The only game I have ever thought has had a better online then MGO.

I really like Killzone 2, but I don't think it will be game of the year honestly. I mean all things good and bad aside, I don't find myself NEEDING to play this game like I have other games. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy and play KZ2 almost every night, but it's not an obsession like MGS4 or Uncharted or Bioshock or Left 4 Dead or Mass Effect or Rock Band/Guitar Hero or any other number of games that I've played that were beyond "great" and were just something completely different that made me spend all of my waking hours playing them.

I get what you're saying, as yes, I am playing it every night. But it's not like the aforementioned games where I would literally jump on as soon as I came home from work, stop for the bathroom or smokes or a bite to eat, and play until the wee hours and go to work tired the next day, only to spend all weekend playing. I get my time in and I enjoy it, but it's just not the obsession that I've experienced with other "games of the year" or contenders (going as far back as Zelda and Tetris and such.

What concerns me is that it's only been under two weeks since KZ2 came out and I'm already over the big block of time playing stage - it's more, "I think I'll play a game or two and then jump on Guitar Hero" or something like that. I think that of all the things that could be considered questionable about KZ2, it is its staying power.

the multiplayer is a "stroke of genius" are you freakin kidding me? so spending 30 minutes or so in ONE game listening to the same 12 year olds rap in your headset playing game modes i don't necessarily want to play is genius? or combining the pace of call of duty with the stolen ideas of team fortress is genius? how is death match followed instantly by ctf genius? how about making it 32 players online so that in between games i get to listen everyone talk at one time. yeah this insanely expensive game that took forever to make, that still couldn't get the controls right, that takes all of its ideas from other games and doesn't have a shred of uniqueness deserves game of the year. give me a break. if this gets game of the year, i'm done with console gaming. this year is a perfect reflection of where this generation of consoles took us.
a bunch of fanboys over hyping and over praising UNDERwhelming games because they appear only on their special super exclusive system that you can only get if you have royal blood.

everyone giving all these props to guerrilla, you realize you're just screwing your chances of ever seeing new and unique games. every company is just going to churn out the same old garbage year after year until we start calling them out for what they really are. hack companies with nothing new to bring to the table.

Killzone 2 is fantastic!
However, the Stanley Cup should not be presented, until the very last playoff game is complete. We haven't even reached to playoffs yet, and here are arguments for "who developed the best game and which console is the undisputed champ." (Yea Nintendo is ahead....FOR NOW.) Here are some great games, which I have included into my "Heisman" watch:

-RESIDENT EVIL 5 (Have you played 4? Then there is nothing more that needs to be said about RE5!)

-KILLZONE 2 (People may hate, but this is a gem. Will not fan fires by saying it's THe best shooter, but it is easily in the calls with "You know who..")

-MADWORLD (I am considering buying a Wii, JUST FOR THIS GAME! This game is genre defining, and flat out insane. Up there with one of the most underrated classic series of all time, Veutiful Joe 1 & 2.)

-DEAD SPACE (Resident Evil in Space. VERY underrated....and the sales or correlated to the recession and no multi-player/co-op.)

-UNCHARTED 2 (PLEASE REFER TO THE 1ST DRAKES GAME! You are pretty much playing a movie, and that slick idea will begin to catch on with developers, just like FPS with Gears' cover system and the Call of Duty 4 running mechanics.)

-BIOSHOCK 2 (PEROID)

-GOD OF WAR 3 (OH YES...I DIDN'T FORGET ABOUT YOU!! Just like Halo 2&3 and Gears of War 1&2, NOTHING ELSE NEEDS TO BE SAID ABOUT GOW3!!!!!)

P.S.-Didn't include Halo ODST because it's pretty much an expansion to Halo 3. meaning, that there most likely are no enhancements or innovation to this title. I DO RESPECT THE STREET CRED AS IT WILL MOVE MILLIONS, but most non-biased gamers can see that 2009 has evolved into something not seen before in games.)
Also, Street Fighter is great, but in the end..it's a 2-D arcade fighter. GREAT GAME, but not my G.O.T.Y choice. AlanWake, Grand T., And Heavenly Rain are not identified as 100% 2009 games. i will make adjustments AFTER E3 2009.
