IGN: Tom Clancy's HAWX PS3 Review

Tom Clancy's HAWX is very close to being a great game; it's just missing a few of the intricate pieces that create an enthralling experience. As it is the mission design is lacking, the combat is unimaginative, and the multiplayer is shallow. Still, there are plenty who will be able to enjoy soaring 40,000 feet above the earth destroying dozens of enemy planes. All the while belting out lines of Danger Zone. That's not weird, is it?

Wow, thought the game was pretty fun.

ThanatosDMC5523d ago

The review's pretty accurate. The game was too arcadey. I was really hopeful for this game...

ChampIDC5523d ago

Hm, TeamXbox really seemed to like this game, giving it an 8.4. I'm surprised to see such a low score out of IGN.

I thought the game was pretty fun, though it was no sim. Sims don't appeal to the masses anyway, so it's hard to expect them out of big developers. This is where all Tom Clancy games are going these days. It's a shame, because I sure loved the sim days of the first Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games.

Figures, Ubisoft with their half assed attempts at "new IPs" or "new concepts". Assassin's Creed, Endwar, Naruto, Far Cry 2 and Prince of Persia and so forth. Whenever they try something new, they never go the distance and thus their first game becomes this half assed game and the fans has to wait for the sequel to get the real experience. GRAW and RS6V are great examples.

Oh well at least they try to do something new, I appreciate that.

Why would you call it a fail? Just because a review told you so ?

Please don't tell me you actually played the full game otherwise you would have a real gamer comment to ad.

The gaming industry is in the state its in right now because of people like you. Who don't play the game and think metacritic and "overall" decide what you should and shouldn't like.

kazan5523d ago

sadly but it fail..was hoping it would be fun :(

ChampIDC5523d ago

Mediocre score doesn't mean a game can't be fun. If you had high hopes, give it a rent and see if you like it. Heck, if you haven't, at least try the demo.

RyuStrife5523d ago (Edited 5523d ago )

lol, how did the 360 version score .1 point worse than this one? It's the same exact across all columns. These tenths are ridiculous. I think they should stick to quarters instead. Ah well. I did enjoy the demo.

Alcon5523d ago

Maybe another reveiwer?? If it is the same reviewer I'll have to agree that its odd. But even if there where two reviewers, they could have at least talked to each other and come up with the same score. Anyway it's only .1 difference on a not so terrible game (it seems), so you really cares...

Lou-Cipher5523d ago

I would guess it is the video recording feature that the PS3 has, or the youtube upload that the PS3 version has over the 360 version.

...it was butt.

I didn't finish it but dude, Warhawk blows this out of the water.

I can think of only a few War games with multiplayer and vehicles that are as fun as Warhawk..

1. Halo 2 (duh)
2. Halo 3
3. UT III

... that's about all.

Well; to be fair, I didn't finish the demo, so maybe I'll do that before I drop the hammer on this game.

spunnups5523d ago

Battlefield is good but your right, Warhawk is the king of all out War and I can't wait to see what Incognito's next project is. They presented it to Sony and they got the go ahead.

Lou-Cipher5523d ago

I have purchased and played HAWX,(only about 3 hours in) and it is not as good as Ace Combat 6 or Warhawk so far, but it is decent.

nix5523d ago

i tried the demo on PSN but it was really boring. i've played Ace Combat on PS2 but this was really slow. the Warhawk is amazing MP. it's freaking fast and chaotic too. maybe these modern planes are too easy to fly. lock the enemies when they are 30 miles away and shoot them down with a missile. etc..

i think WWII or WWI game will probably appeal to me more because i don't like these automatic lock ons. i want to fly in and blow them up! that's what i do in KZ2 MP. i run thru and shoot blindly at heads. if i am lucky i get 2/3 people. of course you can't do the same in SP mode. you won't stand a chance.

too bad... i was looking forward to this game. i wont be buying this game not just because IGN rated it low but because i found the demo boring. IGN rated Heavenly Sword low and GTA4 high... and look how they turned out.

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. - A Series that Burned Up on Re-Entry

Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. was a series that showed promise, but after 2010's Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X. 2, all we have is backwards compatibility.

I remember buying Hawx2 back on PS3 after Microsoft bought exclusivity of Ace Combat6.

So to fill that dog fighting space I bought Hawx2, a very basic game that only had a gimmick of evasion that was overused if I remember correctly. I never even finished the game and still own it and my super slim ps3 so who knows I might pop it in one day and see if I can feel the need, I he need for speed.
