Fallout 360: New Patch Has 'Secret' Graphics Boost

the latest Fallout 3 patch isn't just preparation code for the upcoming DLC… one of the small issues with the launch 360 game has been addressed: the specular maps are back. Perhaps the omission was simply a bug? Or perhaps not, because while the effect has been replaced in the more obvious locations, elsewhere it is still absent. But regardless, it's an obviously welcome addition for 360 owners, and we presume that the upcoming DLC will be looking as good as it can possibly be.

but Killzone 2 destroys everything on teh 360

Galvanise5947d ago

If you read the article. . .it states that this graphical boost has been standard in the PS3 version from day one. The 360 was the one with the inferior mapping and textures!

TheMART5947d ago (Edited 5947d ago )

so beg for mercy

You're all gonna bet on one game? Strange...

Second: KZ2 ain't all that. I own the game and its not Jesus coming back to planet earth. Actually its pretty boring besides the nice death animations and its grey, grey, more grey and some glowing red eyes...

@ PirateThom

Yes I am playing it... check my PSN tag. If you are a friend of me ofcourse haha

PirateThom5947d ago

Only grey?

Ha, you haven't played it!

Arsenic135947d ago (Edited 5947d ago )

If you READ it says" It turned out that Xbox 360 version, despite its superior frame rate and full-on 4x MSAA, had flaws of its own."$
It still beat the PS3 in some aspects. Do your fanboy eyes just scan for sh*t to say?

AngryTypingGuy5947d ago

It's ok, cut Galvanise some slack. After all, when comparing multiplatform games head to head, the PS3 fans don't have much to brag about! This occasion is no different considering that the 360 version runs smoother, has been graphically updated, and has hours upon hours of DLC to expand your gaming experience with.

Shane Kim5946d ago

While PS3 owners has hours upon hours of new games to play, you will just settle with DLC.

AngryTypingGuy5946d ago

Shane, don't be bitter that MS offers more DLC so you can get even more out of your purchases. You know very well that if it were the PS3 versions getting the DLC, you'd be bragging saying that you can get more out of the PS3 versions. Sometimes, believe or not, I opt to get DLC to get more out of a game rather than going and getting a new one. I'm playing Fallout right now, and after I play RE5, maybe I'll get some of the Fallout DLC. Then again, maybe I'll download the Lost and the Damned and revisit GTA IV. Of course, maybe I'll go buy a whole new game, who knows.

Major_Tom5946d ago

Mart you definitely haven't played it if you think it's all grey.

Sarah Palin5946d ago

NEW GAMES???
WHERE???
OMG SERIOUSLY, YOU BETTER NOT BE HIDING THEM FROM ME, OR SO HELP ME GOD....

Awsome i can see a big difference, but how can they do that through a patch?

mynd5947d ago

Fairly easily, it's a simple shader fix.
It's merely adding a few extra lines to compute the half angle between light an eye vectors. Or in laymen terms, fixing the shiny stuff.

DominusRebellis5947d ago (Edited 5947d ago )

So the 360 patch makes it look like the PS3 version then eh?

Why dis5947d ago (Edited 5947d ago )

The PS3 version was better?

Not from what I seen and read lol.

Don't believe this at all. FAKE.

Real Gambler5947d ago (Edited 5947d ago )

You're so funny!

Yesterday, the same website, analysing Hawx, was a reference. You didn't say it was fake, but took it as the truth, nothing but the truth.

http://www.n4g.com/News-288...
Amazingly, your message was 1.3

Today, it's fake! Make up your mind. If they say something for the 360 it's a great site, but if they say the anything against, it's fake?

Well, nah, you should grow up. Driving is fun. See you on the road in 13 years from now!

phosphor1125947d ago

but you are obnoxious. It is real so shut up. You can tell which one is the 360 and the PS3 version. The PS3 version has no AA while the 360 version did and still has.

Pika-pie5947d ago

PS3 version does NOT, repeat NOT have the graphical edge in this game. I have both versions of the game, it is clear as day when you put them side by side, theres no AA in the PS3 version at all.

Just a shame though that the 360 version doesnt have v-sync.

vhero5946d ago

why is this in the ps3 section then if it improves 360 gameplay??

potenquatro5946d ago

One of the good things about consoles is that drivers can be made more game specific, and you don't have to go looking for them or have to know how to install them. I'm surprised Sony and MS haven't done this more often when they're so busy screaming about their online features. And I'm especially surprised at MS and it's devs for not talking more with AMD to keep those drivers coming regularly. Nvidia has benn doing a better job putting drivers out there for PC but I haven't noticed any driver updates on any PS3 patch. I don't see any excuse for that since Sony and MS are putting alot of their cards on alot of peoples houses. Business as usual I guess.

KRUSSIDULL5946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

This was done for Oblivion aswell dont belive me? Get an old copy of it and play it without the update and then play it with the update look at the road. :)

PS3 has higher resolution graphics still but overall Xbox has the edge with draw distance and AA.

GiantEnemyCrab5946d ago

WhyDis don't even bother with that noise. The best version just got better and sounds like you have that version so it's all good.

and ps3 with no AA ....teh jaggies

Wrex the Krogan5947d ago

This was the best game of 2008. Can't wait to play The Pitt, which is an exclusive episode available for Xbox 360 and PC.

PirateThom5947d ago

Then it's not exclusive, is it?

no-spin5947d ago

maybe the exclusivity is for being MS exclusive, otherwise it does not make any sense.

TheIneffableBob5947d ago

Yeah, if it's on two platforms, then it's not exclusive.

I guess you could say it's a Microsoft-exclusive, though, as it's only available through Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live.

goflyakite5947d ago

Well that's coming from a user with a Mass Effect avatar, another exclusive.

amirite?

JasonPC360PS3Wii5947d ago

Let me rephrase it for you PirateThom so you can understand. It's exclusive to Microsoft platforms, PC (Microsoft Windows) Xbox 360 (Microsoft) <--- is there any other way?

Gaming platforms

Mac = Apple (some games)

PC = 3rd party hardware running "Microsoft Windows" and "Games for Windows"
Xbox 360 = Microsoft

DS = Nintendo
Wii = Nintendo

PSP = Sony
PS2 = Sony
PS3 = Sony

Now please PirateThom tell of another way to play Fallout 3 without a PC with Windows, an Xbox 360 or a PS3? So, since you "have" to own a PC with Windows in order to play this game on a PC, and the dlc is only avalible for PC and Xbox 360, that makes it... TAH DAH "exclusive" to Microsoft platforms.

Have yourself a nice day :)

goflyakite5946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

If he would have said the content is exclusive to MS platforms as one, then he would be correct. Being exclusive to two things doesn't really make much sense.

And to your other post Jason, it's quite obvious that the roaches are in different places on the floor. But You'll probably just ignore that.

Major_Tom5946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

Microsoft platforms imply a physical manifestation of hardware, however there are Operating Systems.

Microsoft doesn't own computers, they just have a monopoly in the OS business.

You can't OWN all the computers in the world.

Either way, PS3 owners can play this on their PC's, meaning you don't need a Xbox 360 to play it because it's available on more than one platform.

Technically, it's not exclusive.

Ground control to major tom
Ground control to major tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on

Ground control to major tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may gods love be with you

Ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five,
Four, three, two, one, liftoff

This is ground control to major tom
Youve really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now its time to leave the capsule if you dare

This is major tom to ground control
Im stepping through the door
And Im floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today

For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet earth is blue
And theres nothing I can do

Though Im past one hundred thousand miles
Im feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell me wife I love her very much she knows

Ground control to major tom
Your circuits dead, theres something wrong
Can you hear me, major tom?
Can you hear me, major tom?
Can you hear me, major tom?
Can you....

Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the moon
Planet earth is blue
And theres nothing I can do.

It's exclusive to platforms running MS OS on hardware made by MS and every other PC vendor.

I haven't bought this game yet, but looks like I'll be getting it for my PS3 rather than my 360.
Nice video

thenuttybuddy085947d ago

I have heard that it looks better on the ps3 im gonna get it for that one day.

Sangria5947d ago

Honestly, you should. I don't say that for trolling, i own both PS3 and 360 and have both Fallout 3 on PS3 and 360, and i can merely say that even before the patch, 360 version is way better.

When i started the game on PS3, each time a friend is connected or disconnected, the game was -intentionally- freezing. It has been fixed in a patch but it was a real pain in the ass. But the biggest problem of the PS3 version is the constant aliasing.

There is aliasing on 360 version, but you don't notice much, whereas on PS3, it's persistent and we can't play one hour without having the eyes flashing.

So if you own both consoles, i would more recommend you to get the 360 version (and the fact that Fallout 3 DLCs will never go to PS3, it's still a good point for the 360). I'm generally not 360-oriented, but for the Fallout 3 case, i can't stop to warn people (just like i always warn people when we hear that Rise Of The Argonauts is in any way "good").

interrergator5947d ago

i own both consoles too and i want the content soo i want the 360 version too get more of it i beat anchorage and waitin for the pitt and broken steel wenever that arrives

DelbertGrady5946d ago (Edited 5946d ago )

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

"PS3 exhibits the biggest perceptible technical handicap with the omission of any form of anti-aliasing whatsoever. Normally, this wouldn't be that a vastly important issue, but Fallout 3 is anything but a 'normal' piece of software. In a game that possesses such a minute level of detail, seeing every single edge shimmer with jagginess adversely impacts the most important part of the game: the 'reality' of the world that's being created. This is emphasised still further by the frequent changes in the frame-rate, and in the most curious of places."

"When it really hits home (for example, in the enclosed environments of the Super-Duper Mart or the Rivet City marketplace), the frame-rate can hit rock-bottom at 15fps. The fact that the rate fluctuates so much - between 15fps, 20fps and 30fps in quick succession in some cases - gives the PS3 code a rough look, but equally as importantly, the video feedback to the movements on your controller is therefore equally variable. In the heat of battle, lining up a specific shot outside of the VATS system (hard enough already without keyboard and mouse) is even more difficult due to the jerky visuals."

"Contrast issues aside, the Xbox 360 version of the game is basically a nicer place to be. There's still the occasional rough edge, but most of the image is filtered with 4x multi-sampling anti-aliasing - the same kind of ultra-fine smoothing as seen in Race Driver: GRID and Project Gotham Racing 4."

Even IGN say that the 360 version is better than the PS3. And the 360 and PC versions are getting DLC so those are the ones to get. If you have a gaming rig the PC is the way to go. If not, 360.

Keep ignoring it, PS3 fanboys.

Give us FO3 with all the dlc remastered like ESO. Load times faster, quality of life improvements, gun play improvements

I believe it shouldn't just be graphical they should make improvements where they can to make the game better. A simple face lift isn't what's needed

ZeekQuattro52d ago

Still my favorite one. I remember getting a digital copy of FO3 when I got FO4(XBO). It was nice to finally play a stable version of the game. Then when I got a Series S it was an even better expierence. Quick resume and FPS boost made it feel like a whole new game. Updated gunplay would be very welcome though. One of the few things FO4 did better.

New Vegas and Morrowind should have been first!

Christopher60d ago

Fairly certain we all know that New Vegas isn't getting anything because it's not a Bethesda developed game.

OMGitzThatGuy60d ago

MS owns both devs, if they want it, a 3rd party will make it.

Christopher60d ago

***MS owns both devs, if they want it, a 3rd party will make it. ***

I think the issue is that it's not a Bethesda developed game, not that MS owns both. This is more about Todd.

RaidenBlack59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

Yep ... Todd doesn't like getting bettered within his own IP scope.
I still think of the Elder Scrolls spin-off Obsidian pitched similar to New Vegas, but Todd rejected.

RaidenBlack59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

Replayed NV more than FO3 ... so I appreciate the FO3 remaster more.
For NV, I'd much prefer a sequel or a spinoff from Obsidian.

FTLmaster60d ago

Got a soft spot for Fallout 3, so I'd be down to play this.

-Foxtrot60d ago

It's crazy New Vegas wasn't worked on first to launch alongside Fallout Season 2.

They could have added all the cut content they had planned but didn't have enough development time to add, possibly even expand on it a little more. For example, have the Vegas strip as one big hub over being chopped into smaller sections we have to keep loading into.

neutralgamer199260d ago

Would love a complete remake or sequel with enough resources

Abnor_Mal60d ago

The only Fallout game I’ve played, PS3 had to keep stopping every few minutes to save. Next thing I knew the credits were rolling and I never did any side quest. I never replayed the game because of all the bugs the game had.

Yui_Suzumiya59d ago (Edited 59d ago )

I've played Fallout 3 more than any game. I lost count many years ago of how many times I finished it. It was my first Platinum trophy. But yeah, it was buggy on PS3 at launch before it got properly patched.

anast60d ago

They are only remaking their games that have been streamlined.
