Why not make it compatible with previous versions, and just unlock extra effects and stuff for those with DX10 systems?

I've never heard of OS-exclusive PC games before...

Halo 2. Technically it was easily done on XP, but we all know how MS draw their evil powers of influence from money :P

Why? Because if they made it compatible with the other versions of DX they wouldnt be able to take full advantage of DX10. Most games today only take advantage of a few of the features in dx10. This is because they want the game to be compatible with dx9 aswell. Its just not feasible for a developer to take full advantage of dx10 and then support previous versions of dx.

Everything that is possible with dx10 is possible with dx9 or openGL... it might be easier to achieve but with customisable shaders you can do pretty much anything. It's completely overrated. The time it got shown up the most was when Crysis was revealed to deliberately lock out the max graphics settings for DX9, when it could handle them just fine - I think, depending on your computer, it might run it better since XP uses less memory than vista...

Can you say bribed by MS? No matter, game looks rubbish anyway, I'll stick with Empire thank you!
