Dragon Quest IV and V are considered part of a trilogy because they take place in the same world, but no knowledge of IV is required to understand and enjoy V. Anyone who does not have an abject hatred of traditional JRPGs should give it a whirl. Now, if only Square Enix would upgrade the lousy interface.
