The Top 5 FPS Games of This Generation Pre-Killzone 2. It's a weird title yes, but GamingFront.net have a feeling that their top choices are about to change come Feb. 27th

Halo 3's multiplayer is surpassed by R2 and COD4. I mean come on you've got GOTY Multiplayer and 60 player Vs & 8 player coop.

Halo's multiplayer is actually quite fun with a bit of tweaking (I turn overshields off). However, it's hard for a lot of people to see that because the Halo multiplayer community -- for the most part -- is rubbish.

I'm disappointed at the lack of PC shooters on this list. Oh well. You can't expect EVERYone to love PCs. :(

My list would look like this:

1. TIE = Halo 3 & Resistance 2
2. Call of Duty 4
3. Resistance Fall of Man
4. The Darkness
5. Unreal Tournament III

I would say that Bioshock is awesome, but not an FPS in the true sense of the word. It's more like an adventure game with RPG and shooter themes. I wouldn't put Oblivion or Fallout 3 on the list for the same reason.

2.Battlefield:Bad Company

3.Halo 3(I don't like the maps much)

4.Bioshock(I used the guns in it more than in The Darkness or Dark Sector so I'll include it)

5.The Darkness(Can't stand the controls in COD or R6:Vegas)

Fallout 3 and Mass Effect are RPG focused and the only shooting in Oblivion was arrows or magic so I'm not sure why you may have included it in your exclusions callahan09. Otherwise nice list.

Numbers aren't everything. I play both Resistance 2 and Halo 3 regularly and I must say I prefer Halo 3.

dude even if you have 60 players it does not mean its "Fun" Halo 3's multiplayer has a much better quality and its back by Xbox Live.

I've played Counterstrike maps with more people than 60 and it pretty much sucks because it's all run and gun.

personally anything more than 8-10 per team is excessive.

Resistance 2 had dedicated lag-free servers, a feature of PSN not XBL. Even with 60 people you never lagged. I also loved the skirmishes, dynamic mission objectives and squad based team play made R2's Multiplayer great.

I spent most of the game in the co-op though. The classed based co-op made me have more fun with it than I did with Left4Dead.

I do like the Forge thing Halo has. Custom maps are always good.
I just hate Halo's gameplay though, jump really high and the first person to get the rocket launcher wins.

CoD4 was easily the best Multiplayer FPS I have ever played though, I just hated how dodgy the servers were.

It's hard to rank games like that, even within their own genres. I'm surprised The Darkness made it in the list, instead of something like Team Fortress 2, or Fallout 3. Or even STALKER

Well Fallout 3 is not really what you would call a "Fluent FPS" Its more like a Hybrid.

Why Darkness and Bioshock are the only 2 games on that list really worth playing. Both Halo and R2 are boring as hell from start to finish a total waste of time. CoD4 is almost just a boring a few cool cg's in between lvls and some fairly impressive graphics keeps it from being a complete waste

halo 3 was average, didnt get to try multiplayer as i dont have xbox live and i was playing on my bros 360

R2 single player grew on me after a rocky start, i didnt get to try multiplayer but overall it was good

I agree Res1 was some much better and more ingenious then Res2, I mean it was fun and all but It could have been alot more.

The guns from Call of Duty feel "real" and the alien guns from Halo are pretty "believable"

Compared to other shooters not really.

Resistance 2 is a game that falls into the Unique Crowed, where its not that popular, and is only enjoyed by a relatively small section of people. Its still fun put to hold it up to COD and Halo is a hard comparison to make.

Couldnt agree more, Halo 3 will certainly go down in history as one of the most fun FPS's ever created.

Sure it doesnt have the realism like a lot of other shooters but thats what makes it so unique. I mean what other FPS can you be shot in the air by a gaint hammer while driving a kart and then be shot down by a laser? Thats right NONE!!

in one aspect:

There is a reason your health/shield regenerates afetr getting shot. you're wearing super soldier armor. not so much in COD4.

I agree, there is so much scope for unique and unpredictable moments, other shooters feel very 1 dimensional and plain in comparison. My favourite Halo 3 kill was when an enemy team member jumped onto my warthog gun on Standoff, my solution was to drive off the edge, making sure to hop out just before ;)

Well based on experience I'd say go with what ever your friends are playing on. I chose 360 because I had most of my friends on there.

doesn't matter, both have laggy multiplayer. expect a lot of disconnects or host ended game

can be frustrating.. AI becomes too accurate but in terms of AI routines, non-existent. they just stand there or run towards you in a scripted manner.. and then, of course, the grenades and infinite respawn..

but, if you don't want to deal with them, you can just run to the next checkpoint and they magically disappear

It's pretty tough on the higher difficulty settings. Just because you play on easy doesn't mean you should go around bragging.

The reason it can be tough at higher difficulties is because they get super dead eye accuracy and infinite grenades to throw. Add in a million of them and it can get pretty rough. COD4 is a great game but the AI isn't anything special.

but the best AI I've ever seen was in the original Half-life. The AI in Half-life 2 was great but it seemed to be missing that something from the original. the marines would flank you, throw grenades back at you, hide from you, find cover effectively, even seemingly plot against you. it seemed very lifelike. of course, I haven't played the game in awhile so maybe it's just nostalgia.

I do agree that the AI in COD4 is average. the difficulty arises from limitless respawns, grenades, and accuracy not tactics. the bots are generally just bullet catchers.

Halo has some of the best AI out there as far as tactics go but sometimes it's stupid. like I've sniped enemies standing out in the open and it didn't alert the enemies standing right next to the guy getting sniped. Of course, that was Halo 2.

I thought THE DARKNESS had a nice atmosphere, but I rarely found myself using any of the powers other than the 'vortex' thingy. Having to ride trains all over town and retrace my steps got a bit tedious too.

I really liked R2, but it just didn't feel like a sequel to the (far superior, in my opinion) original. Co-op is addictive though!

The Darkness was pretty damn good but the aiming was horrible. I hope Riddick doesn't suffer in this regard.

Also, while I didn't play Resistance 2's multiplayer much, which I understand to be good, I felt the single player was utterly disappointing. Very, very bland. I don't understand the graphical praises either. While certain locations and elements looked good overall I was not in the least bit impressed.

It was an ok game but to name it in the top 5 this gen is a little out there. I guess some people like walking around shooting out lights. Maybe Rainbow 6 Vegas, Battlefield: Bad Company, COD: WaW, Left 4 Dead, or Far Cry 2 would have been better. The rest of the list is fine though.

R2 MP feels boring at the start, but once you find a gun youre comfortible with then its a blast.
