How Killzone 2 Would've Been Perfect

Yeah yeah it would've been perfect if it were a multiplatform game we know. What a load of bullcrap. Only on a Playstation exclusive title all these nitpicking happens.

Bite me media!

BRACHATTACK5981d ago

Oh!

Like Halo 3 and Gears 2!

If this was a 360 game, it would have 10's all over.

The critics just can't admit Killzone 2 has surpassed all the sh!t they were saying about it!

kapedkrusader5981d ago

...The original Killzone had 4 members in the squad as well. So technically, Gears isn't original, not the other way around.

Mr_Bun5981d ago

Don't forget the cover system that Gears stole from Kill.Switch...which was probably used even before that.

Giriath5981d ago

Yeah, but the media can't admit that GeoW didn't really do much new at all. Its cover system was treated as a Godsend when it had actually been done before in the TPS genre. But when Killzone 2 features the first cover in first person, it sure as hell isn't anything new.

Masta_fro5981d ago

enough of these articles, please...

CrayzeeCarl5981d ago

KZ stole the 4 man squad?!? What else do you want? Would it have been better to have a 3 or 5 man squad???

Esena5980d ago

Well said. It's truly unprofessional for someone to criticize a game for copying when it actually first included the 4 person squad. I find it funny how much nitpicking goes into Killzone 2. People are over-analyzing this game. The scores it receives should not be compared to any other game because no other game goes through such scrutiny.

Alexious5980d ago

Such pathetic idiots.

Every game in this generation is pretty much "been there, done that" except from 2-3 maybe. Even Bioshock copies pretty much System Shock 2.
What the hell is this incompetent talking about?

Oh, yes, I forgot. Of course he wants to talk down about Killzone 2, since it's a PlayStation 3 exclusive fps not allowed by some media to be considered better than, say, 360 exclusives.

Maddens Raiders5980d ago

all of my diatribes and reasons for hating the PlayStation 3 and KILLZONE II in particular.......have been butt raped, so now I have to make up pretend excuses.

E P I C F A I L

GWAVE5980d ago

After reading articles like this I wonder how any self-respecting human being can still think that the gaming media ISN'T biased against the PS3.

The article basically says "Okay, we were naysayers. We ragged on this game and didn't expect it to live up to the hype. Lo and behold, it lived up to the hype and SURPASSED the hype, but...uh...it wasn't original enough. It wasn't PERFECT. So, even though our naysaying was thrown back in our faces...even though our fanboyish predictions turned out wrong...even though all the hate we had against this game was unfounded...it wasn't PERFECT, so therefore we feel the need to write this article to let you know."

There. Now you kids don't have to click on the link.

SL1M DADDY5980d ago

If it says "For Playstation 3 Only" on the cover, it gets picked at far more than any other title. The media used to try and hide it but these days they are just blatant about their bias. Sad shame.

mgsfan5980d ago

this is just bull. its a FPS. gaming has been going on since ...emm.. since ever..sooner or later all ideas are going to be done anyway.they last few new things are being used up like LBP and thats not THAT new. i hate when games get put down just co its "not new" and yet there are some things in killzone that are new, cover, the mode on online ( its probley been done but not in this gen)

soxfan20055980d ago

So, the media is trying to keep PS3 down and bolster the Xbox 360? Riiiggghhhttt. Where was the pro-Microsoft media when the Xbox was being crushed by the PS2 by a 6:1 margin? Using Sony fanboys reasoning, maybe the PS2 only won last generation because of pro-Sony media.

Ju5980d ago

It gets nitpicked as hell. Admitted. But, staying an optimist, I would like to say, I have hardly seen a game filling the front page for weeks like KZ2 does. Not Halo3, not Geow2, nor any other game.

RememberThe3575980d ago (Edited 5980d ago )

That most gaming journalists have forgotten how to critically think. Thus, they're stuck tripping over their stupid ass contradictory statements.

The thing that pisses me off is that none of these reviewer are held to their word.

How can you give Gears of War 2 a prefect score in graphics and then given Killzone 2 a lower rating, while saying it's the best looking console game?

How can you give Halo 3 a higher score for it's story then Killzone 2? I haven't even played Killzone 2 and I know it's story will be better than Halo 3's.

All these reviewers do is post their reviews then go hide in a corner pretending to not hear us calling them out. One of these a-holes need to come out and defend their biased comments.

Traveler5980d ago

He already admitted to being a naysayer, so 'nough said.

I think we all know what is motivating this intense nitpicking.

DeadIIIRed5980d ago

Totally agree. These cowards get to take biased potshots at a great game and will probably never be held accountable for their bs. I guess the most we can do is pay attention to who is giving fair reviews and boycott the cowards.

pixelsword5980d ago

Killzone 2 is a fun, albeit derivative experience. Okay, the graphics are the bomb and the atmosphere is the most immersive war-zone ever created for home consoles. It’s even convinced some of us stronger naysayers to admit they were wrong. But man-alive, couldn’t a little bit of thought have been placed into originality? You have this incredible architecture and enough money to fund a UN mission aid, but all you wow me with are prettier gibs and lame squad AI? Here are some ways Killzone 2 could have reached Legendary rather than typical (note the lower-case) shooter status. Granted, it doesn’t make it any less fun but the feeling of “been there, done that” is too strong not to share.

She’s Gonna Blow Captain!…Any Minute Now…

When the Helghast launch an assault on your mothership as Visari seeks the nuclear access codes, tensions couldn’t be…lower. Yes, that’s right, because for the entire hullabaloo over the ship requesting you to evacuate – Lord knows why we didn’t do that earlier instead of fending off enemy ships with gun turrets or killing the Helghast inside – it will, as always, remind you you’re playing a game and wait patiently for you to actually board the escape crafts. The warnings only grow the closer you get, but you could dawdle for five minutes or fifty and it won’t matter. Visari will still wait patiently to kill the Captain, the Captain will wait to keep the damn thing afloat before sending it back to sweet mother Earth and what-not. Hell, they should have thrown in endless waves of Helghast pursuing you rather than impeding your way, if only to get the damn thing over with and add real tension.

This is but one example of the atypical missions. Others include stunning a robot and hitting it with rockets magically located nearby (neat-o!) and manning turrets to – gasp! – defend a city square. Better reasons to shoot through these pretty levels, please.

Four of a Kind of Gears Something-Something

separated-at-birth-againOne thing Killzone 2 does blatantly take from Gears of War is the four man squad, including you, that accompanies you throughout the game and serves as buddies to bond with. Forget the fact that these guys can’t seem to stay alive for longer than a few minutes in an intense firefight (of which KZ2 is nothing but) – their dialogues compete with the worst gangsta flicks in terms of profanity and shallowness:

“We gotta take out that fvcking tank!”
“Here come the fvckers, fvck them!”
“Fvcking fvck fvckity fvck!”

That last line was all I could hear on reaching mission 3. Everything else was just noise. Would it kill developers to hire some decent writers or at least go easy on the caffeine when taking up the pen?

Would You Like Vanilla With That?

typical-weaponAh, the weapon selection. Nothing says “Sunday mass funeral” quite like guns. The more exotic and unique the weapon, the better. After all those extravagant ways of murdering individuals, don’t we owe it to ourselves to disembowel them in full hi-res 720p glory? Now let’s take a look at the selection. Hmmm…Flamethrower? Check. Machine gun? Check. Chain gun? Check. Sniper rifle with built-in (or else) SixAxis controls? Check. Assault rifle equipped with grenade launcher? Double-check. Nail-gun? You bet. Lasers, miniature nukes, plasma weapons, telekinesis, napalm, shield guns (or just plain shields)…any kind of secondary firing options? Nope. If that isn’t the most typical shooting arrangement this side of Quake and Doom, I’ll eat my BFG. More variety, please.

covered-in-fearAlso, I don’t hate Killzone 2 for ripping off something from Gears of War. It’s a known fact that all games rip or borrow mechanics from each other at some point in time, so it’s become commonplace. However, when some one does it better and does it first with no one else copying them for years on end, then a little lifting from the concept doc is bound to get attention. Remember the infinitely useful cover system, which lets you lean out left or right from behind structures and pick off foes with relative safety? It’s a perfect facsimile of that from another hallmark FPS: F.E.A.R.. Alma’s going to be mad. Okay, even madder than usual.

Tanks Ahoy

vehiclesWhen Operation Flashpoint was released for the PC, it garnered away one accolade from Halo: The first FPS to use vehicles. But Codemasters didn’t take that as a call to begin the tacking on. They introduced unorthodox vehicles like helicopters and gun-ships along with the usual assortment of jeeps and tanks. Nowadays, FPS’s have all kinds of vehicles, so the trick has become to incorporate them in unique ways. Take Half-Life 2: It featured a buggy with a turret but was melded so seamlessly with the game, it felt like a part of Gordon himself. It was indispensable.

Now, I’m not going to insult Killzone 2 for having a jeep with a turret like Halo’s Warthog because you don’t actually pilot it. It serves as a transition device in a cut-scene. The mech and tanks are as detached from your character as possible. The designers actually make the mech incredibly weak against all weapons, even bullet-types, so you’ll take better care of it. No feeling of invincibility? No new spins? Just another way to kill stuff? Sweet lord, the humanity…

O Brother, Where Art Thou?

separated-at-birth-ftwRepress ive ideologies focused primarily on warfare and Communist influences? The requirement of inhuman energies to survive, energies that are not to be consumed directly by people between the ages of 1 month to 100 years? Helmets with shiny coloured lights that allow you to shoot in the dark and add Nazi influences for the whole evil effect? Other-worldly energies and awe-inspiring weaponry that a feisty human resistance will nonetheless best with their simplified ways and machinery all thanks to one spunky, intrepid hero?

Let it be official then: The Combine (Half-Life 2) and the Helghast are officially long-lost brothers who fell off the same tree some where far, far away in another galaxy. They’re all men, too. Yikes.

Paint it Gray

paint-it-grayWe love the graphics for Killzone 2. Killzone 2 is a graphical cake we’re hesitant to bite into because it looks so gosh-darned gorgeous. I think it would win awards for its graphics, maybe even more awards than it’s closest graphical competitor Crysis. But one thing that can’t be forgiven is the colour palette. Yes, it’s a dead man’s wonderland of ash and acid rain but the choice of grays, grays, “Hey, it’s some red! Wait, no, just some more Helghast” and more grays with the occasional overexposed browns really get monotonous. Come on Guerrilla – even id Software had to ditch their limited colour palette sooner or later, as Rage aptly shows. Why prolong the whole thing?

Know any other way to make Killzone 2 better? Let us know. We love adding to the pile.

stevenhiggster5980d ago (Edited 5980d ago )

That'll be split-screen.com added to my list of 360 fanboy sites to be ignored.

"One thing Killzone 2 does blatantly take from Gears of War is the four man squad, including you,"

Now forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't Killzone 1 out long before Gears of War, thats right yes it was and guess what, it had the same four man squad including you!!! So who takes from who exactly?!

“We gotta take out that fvcking tank!”
“Here come the fvckers, fvck them!”
“Fvcking fvck fvckity fvck!”

LMAO

I understand using a curse word every now and then, but c'mon. All this shows is a severe lack of originality. I think I'll save my money. Maybe a rental at best.

Parapraxis5981d ago

Oh, I'm SUUURE you were going to pick this game up but have now decided to change your mind due to the use of foul language in the game.
Yep, that's REALLY believable.

Try harder.

BRACHATTACK5981d ago

Rent just because it swears?!

What would you do if you were staring an RPG in the face!!?

Seriously, this is a gritty game, not a theatrical masterpiece full of clever words.

QUNE5981d ago

It's not because of the USE of foul language. I don't believe I said that. I thought it was funny in case you didn't notice.
It sounds like they're reaching a little.
It doesn't have to be a masterpiece full of words.
Too many people complain when valid observations are brought up. Just like this article does.

rhood0225981d ago (Edited 5980d ago )

I'm sorry, but has anyone ever been in a warzone? Particularly with Marines?

Saying "fvck" is like saying "the." And it's one of the nicer curse words thrown around. If anything, the dialogue is more true to life than even the lines spewed in the COD series.

Aclay5980d ago

"I understand using a curse word every now and then, but c'mon. All this shows is a severe lack of originality. I think I'll save my money. Maybe a rental at best."

The characters in Killzone 2 are Military guys, do you really expect them to talk like they are college professors or something?

If you think Killzone 2's foul language is bad, then you definantly haven't played The Getway because that game has the F-bomb or some other curse word in almost every sentence.

Like I said in my post below, I really don't care about voice acting unless it's a game that's 100% story driven and you AREN'T buying Killzone 2 for the voice acting, you are buying it for the intense FPS action.

Snyph3r5980d ago

to Jack Bauer in COD WAW....Killzone2 is not the only game that has swears on it. What do you want to hear like..."let's do it Marines...or maybe Let's do it ISA Alpha Squad...." that's fvkn gay!

Killzowned!

TheHater5980d ago

I know what you are talking about man. I had a guy that was in the Navy in my Networking class and the amount of profanity he use too use was insane. He have to adjust to the classroom environment because he wasn't in the Navy anymore.

RememberThe3575980d ago

How about you go to warzone, come back, and tell me how the solders sound. I'm sure it'll be like a royal ball...

"Excuse me sir, a thousand pardons, but may I shoot you in the face?"

"Oh, you very well may, let me finish my tea."

If I was getting shot at, I'd be droppin F-bombs all over the place as well.

Traveler5980d ago

Yep, more true to life for sure.

macalatus5980d ago

Leave Donger alone. Feel confident that he'll the first, and ONLY guy to camp outside of Xboxstop...er, Gamestop, for the first-day release of Barney: The Purple Dinosaur Adventure!!

You live in some all white super suburban area where people greet each every morning and have tea parties in the afternoon. Go live in New York as a matter of fact go visit NYC people don't even know that they are cursing in that city (sh!t even my professor curses like crazy and he a Judge and a lawyer)

Even the amount of cursing in the getaway is reasonable (i say this because i have been to Peckham, london and they curse like they from ny)

No no,if it had a Bungie games logo on the lower right side of the main menu, right?

No WAIT!if it had a protagonist with a neck the width of an Oak tree, right?

Microsoft Defense Squad, how's about you spend less time writing articles about Sony and concentrate on your lack of games in 2009 and what you,as a journalist and Microsoft nuthugger, can do about the dismal software situation?

soxfan20055980d ago (Edited 5980d ago )

Ahh, the short memory of Sony fanboys. Sony has been receiving positive press since 1995, at the expense of their competition. Remember the ridiculous claim that Saddam Hussein was trying to buy PS2's to use as missile launchers? Every paper reported that story, and the "power" of the PS2 was reported in every newspaper and TV newscast in the country. Was this fair to Sega, MS, or Nintendo? Hell, no. Not to mention the media cozying up to Sony when they announced the PS2's specs a year ahead of time - an attempt to derail the Dreamcast's launch.

Sony fanboys complaining about bias is like listening to New York Yankees fans complain about their championship drought. You've had it so good for so long that you can't handle not being on top. If 360 is favored by the media, it is only because Sony is being beaten at it's own game.

Rythrine5981d ago

Perfect or not, I know I'll be enjoying this game come Feb. 27. That's all that matters, my opinion about it and not what other say. Reviewers can nit-pick all they want, they ain't changing my mind :)

Why Guerrilla Games Shouldn't Abandon the Killzone Series

1 was fine, overhyped as a " halo" killer
2 was a graphical beast at the time, and felt heavy
3 was good a refinement of 2 but not much else. weird audio issues environment were to quiet
shadow fall was pretty but bland

OtterX239d ago (Edited 239d ago )

Shadowfall had great Multiplayer though. Too bad the campaign was meh at best. It did have the occasional great moment sprinkled in.

TheNamelessOne239d ago (Edited 239d ago )

I played through 2/3 multiple times. I played through the original once, but it felt pretty lukewarm for me. I couldn't be bothered to beat Shadow Fall. I got a couple hours in and just went "I'm done". Never touched it again. It was awesome on the tech side, being a launch title, but it didn't even match up to the first game when it came to actually having fun playing it.

Rude-ro239d ago

3 in 3d was an amazing experience to be had.
Although not many experienced it as intended for good reasons.

just_looken239d ago

You forgot the ai advancements on the playstation 2 killzone one you could have a full team of bots doing everything even playing the objective that was a big thing.

In killzone 2 they always flanked you and when available used the high ground.

Playing killzone 2 no hud 5.1 audio was/is awesome

MDTunkown239d ago

They should finish Horizon story first

darthv72239d ago

I dont mind if someone else takes up the mantle for the KZ franchise. We are several years removed from the first game. It certainly could use a remake to gauge interest in the rest of the series. I know it has its fans... Im thinking of how a proper reboot can rekindle that old dormant flame and bring in a new generation of fans in the process.

just_looken239d ago

You forgot killzone mercenaries on the ps vita but it was the worst selling sony game for awhile there.

Yui_Suzumiya239d ago

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro468d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv72468d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt23468d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!
