TeamXbox: R-Type Dimensions Review

TeamXbox writes: "You have to go back over 20 years ago for the appearance of R-Type in arcades (interestingly enough, licensed by Irem to Nintendo). This 1997 release was a 2-D side-scrolling shooter in the style of other games around that time, such as Konami's Gradius-but in more ways than just the design. These games were serious skill tests, throwing everything including the kitchen sink at the player, and forcing them to throw in quarter after quarter if they wanted to see the last boss flicker and explode its way off the screen. R-Type and its 1989 follow-up R-Type II were brutal, with creatures and turrets moving around the screen, firing in all directions, and making the gamer do a lot of memorization from dozens of play sessions."
