Regarding Mod Usage and Culture in Final Fantasy XIV

Today, Square Enix posted an extensive statement by Final Fantasy XIV Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida about the usage of fan-made mods for the game. He also possibly hinted, as a bonus, at the release timing of the next expansion.
