hopefully VRR via a firmware update is released for docked play as well (like the PS5 did post release)

Jin_Sakai18h ago

Yes VRR more than anything. I just hope it’s possible through a software update and not a hardware related issue. Surely Nintendo thought this out.

Profchaos1d 16h ago

Seems logical its capable.

jznrpg1d 5h ago

Not a knock on Switch 2 but it’s not made for it. Maybe a lower resolution at 120fps or 4k at a low fps but it’s not capable of both.

--Onilink--18h ago

The article is very clear that this is not about having the game run internally at 4k120, but just having the output resolution be that, so the TV is not the one doing the upscaling (of the output)

fr0sty1d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

There's actually a pretty long list of games on PS5 that support 120hz. Even more with 60+hz unlocked, and that isn't even counting PS5 Pro.

I like how you completely ignored "4K 120 Hz" and just went for 120Hz.

badz14920h ago

@Blue

and? are you expecting 4K 120Hz from a $400 machine? you do know that even the 5090 - MSRP $2000, is struggling to run modern games at 4K 120Hz without DLSS, right?

Eidolon18h ago

120hz doesn't mean 120 FPS.

BlueDaBaDee13h ago(Edited 13h ago)

@badz149 The subject matter is "4K 120 Hz", not "120 Hz" just cause I called out fr0sty's poor attempt at damage control doesn't mean you have to have a cry about it.

err...is it even HDMI 2.1 on that thing?

repsahj1d 14h ago (Edited 1d 14h ago )

Yes, according to the dock teardown. It contains HDMI hardware chip of Realtek RTD2175N that supports 4K 120hz. And the HDMI included on the Switch 2 is HDMI 2.1.

fsfsxii15h ago

Its not, its a bog standard hdmi 2.0

UnbreakableAlex1d ago

What did greedy and lazy Nintendo work on the last 8 years? Seriously, why can`t the dock do 120 Hz 4K? Ridiculous.

Review - Mario Kart World (Switch 2) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Aaron Price: "Mario Kart World may have been slightly controversial based on its price, but realistically based on my time played already vs my time playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it seems somewhat justifiable. The Switch 2 has a significantly better online experience, meaning less connection issues during races. Having essentially double the amount of races with Grand Prix and Knockout Tours, plus having the free roam all means there’s a ton more to do just playing the game alone."

Mario Kart World is a solid leap forward, but its $80 price tag and underwhelming free-roam leave much to be desired.

yeh i agree.

the funmy thing is tho, theworld map road drivingz reminds me sooo much of Diddy Kong racing.

RhinoGamer884h ago

Sounds like the Switch 2 itself...$100 too much for the hardware.

OMNlPOTENT1h ago

Almost sounds like the Xbox Series X which just went up by $100 for the same exact hardware it's had for a long time lmao

Agent753h ago

At £75 ($101), I soon got bored of it, even free roam. All old tracks up to now, can't fault much else, but maybe some of the characters are stupid. It's just not as good as Mario Kart 8, which was a Wii U port on Switch. Went back to Mario Kart 8, World doesn't come close even if you play the Wii U version.

OMNlPOTENT1h ago

Terrible terrible take. World has far more content than the Wii U version did at launch. Obviously 8 deluxe launched with more content than the default version, it included all of the DLC content from the Wii U version. The characters are fine as well? It focused far more on the "Mario" universe of Mario Kart, rather than "Nintendo Kart".
