This article reads like it was written by a 15 year old fan boy.

Jesus.

"There are also concerns about the P.R. side of things as their P.R. firm has a history of playing bait and switch (no pun intended) with us and other sites but that does not factor in for me it is simply a mater of I am not a fan of mobile gaming and for me, the Switch 2 is an overpriced and under-powered system compared to my PC and PS5 and I would rather wait and see what is offered by Sony for my next console as I believe there will be far more compelling titles that are going to feature more advanced graphics and online play."

the longest run-on sentence ever.

Garethvk7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

Funny considering most feedback agrees with my points on Facebook and the other platforms. It is also interesting that people who do not agree with a viewpoint opt for personal attacks versus intelligent discourse and valid rebuttals.

Neonridr6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

if this is your article then you need it to come across as less fanboy-ish. You need to be able to take criticisms and not blindly defend your points of view as "matter of fact"

I don't like the Switch 2 because it doesn't have photo-realistic graphics? So I assume you reviewed Astro-Bot very poorly, right? Nintendo has never been in the power game, not since the Gamecube days (and even then the original Xbox was more powerful). Metroid Prime 4 looks awesome, and while it's not going to compete with Halo or Horizon, the visual style looks perfect for the game that it is.

Facebook is a cesspool of conspiracy theorists and online hate, so I wouldn't use that as a valid backing point. People on FB thought that covid was fake and that the vaccines gave you 5G.

You used poor 3rd party representation of the Switch as to why you won't like the Switch 2, which makes no sense as we are seeing plenty of 3rd party games running on the system and looking just fine in the process.

You could have simply said that you weren't getting a Switch 2 because you are a PlayStation gamer, and it would have made more sense than what you wrote. Sorry for bursting your bubble.

DodoDojo6d ago

I mean Nintendo has taken this route for literally decades now, just seems like an odd reason to write an article about especially when their products don't appeal to you to begin with.

Profchaos6d ago

That's the thing about those platforms you find users exist in a echo chamber and don't actually see what the rest of the world thinks

franwex6d ago

That’s due to you seeking validation in other places. Here you will have to try a bit harder. Facebook is an echo chamber social media. This is a video game website.

Eonjay6d ago

Hey Gareth! Long time no see!

Knushwood Butt6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

You'll find that Neonridr is the first poster in many Nintendo / Switch 2 threads that have a negative slant or set Nintendo up for criticism, trying to get the damage control in before anyone else can comment.

I've noticed it many times over the last few weeks but refrained from commenting until now, as this time it's a grammar police angle.

Rage776d ago

Of course most feedback agrees with you, since you targeted the same dumbass fanboys that have plagued this site and many others for years now. If you aren't a Sony sponsored shill then God damn you sure know how to act like one. Is my take too offensive for you? Will i get "canceled" for having "an opposing view"?
ZERO F**ks given. Sick and tired of trying to enjoy gaming and talk to other like minded gamers, but have to wade through waves and waves of you Brainrot Corporate brand headpieces that think that by Catering and Pandering to the Fanboy masses, you wont have your "boat" overturned at some point. There is no reasoning with people like you (or at least who you "support". they have been conditioned over years and years of: "We are the good guys, the coool guys, and we will always give you what you want" You know when was the last time a company adhered to the frame of mind, AND delivered: SEGA and look what happened to them. Sony for years watched how both Nintendo operated and always wanted that crown for themselves, and emplyoyed every dirty tactic in the book (including creating you blind gullible subservients) to reach to this point. Now where has that gotten you? Paying $700 for subpar PC clone that has you playing last gen titles with few embellishments and buying the same remastered game (every time more expensive) for you to gawk over the added res/effects. As far back as PS3, (when you decided xbox was the target) Sony and the PS brand has only left in its wake a legion of zombie trolls that always resides in places like this to spew more BS like its some sort of magic bullet. Dont worry, Sony fans games and new systems will come, Since Switch 2 is coming out soon they will have something to copy (or buy someone to copy) cause they sure as shit cant Create anything. If their life depended on it.

Profchaos6d ago

@rage77 I'm feeling that about n4g a lot lately conversations are one sided and becoming fairly toxic were no longer posting about the games but seemingly in a perpetual console war.

User engagement seems to have suffered to I've barely engaged and commented on n4g this month and in top 20 in engagement that to me isn't a good sign.

Great articles just don't get approved if they are negative of Sony or pro Xbox this article is a good example it's just flame bait article.

I'm getting so over the hostility on this site after close to 20 years I've never been close to just disengaging.

ActualWhiteMan6d ago

Well written. I agree with your article 100%.

DankSinatra5d ago

Lmao "on Facebook and the other platforms". Guy lives in echo chambers and gets mad and when people don't blindly agree with him.

What was stated about your article is completely valid, it's very "look I'm a fanboy!" Mentality and your response validates that. It's funny that when someone like you meets people who do not agree with your point of view, it becomes "personal attacks". It's called criticism.

MetroidFREAK215d ago

You use Facebook as a place for validation? That accomplishes quite the opposite

Dhika5d ago

@Knushwood Butt
"You'll find that Neonridr is the first poster in many Nintendo / Switch 2 threads that have a negative slant or set Nintendo up for criticism, trying to get the damage control in before anyone else can comment."

As if Sony defense force of this site isn't doing the same lol. Whenever there is a negative article of Sony you'll find the same users crying, bitchin', and damage controlling haha. See Concord and PSPlus price increase articles for reference.

Dhika5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

@Rage77
"Sony for years watched how both Nintendo operated and always wanted that crown for themselves, and emplyoyed every dirty tactic in the book (including creating you blind gullible subservients) to reach to this point."

Nintendo is as dirty and anti consumer as they get, don't deny it.
All of you fanboys are hilarious, accusing others for being pathetic fanboys, while you yourselves aren't that different. haha

Knushwood Butt5d ago

'See Concord and PSPlus price increase articles for reference.'

People were defending Concord? Who?

DodoDojo5d ago

@Knush
Really? You can go to Neon's comment history and find them speaking positively and negatively about Nintendo, Sony and MS products and decisions, your comment history... not so much.

Knushwood Butt5d ago

You didn't answer my question.

DodoDojo5d ago

Look up the Concord beta articles and you'll see.

Knushwood Butt5d ago

No, I'm not spending time doing that.

You wrote, 'you'll find the same users crying, bitchin', and damage controlling.'.

So call out those same users.

I certainly wasn't defending Concord; had no interest in it and never played it.

Neonridr4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

@Knushwood - since you were talking about me I guess I should pop back in to give my point of view.

Am I a Nintendo fan? Absolutely, have been since my first NES. Love their consoles and will continue to support them because I enjoy their 1st party games. Do I think they are perfect? Absolutely not, and I've called them out for plenty in the past. My point had nothing to do with the person not appreciating Nintendo, it was their argument points that I was questioning. It just read like a fanboy piece or clickbait for engagement.

The difference with me vs others on this site is that I'm a gamer at heart, I have a gaming PC and a PS5 Pro (30th Anniversary I might add), a Steam Deck and PSVR2. I understand great games come from everywhere, I'm not blind into thinking that I can't find great experiences on different machines. Other people don't agree and think that PlayStation gives them all they need. Great for them, that's not me and will never be me. However, I don't blindly defend any one piece of plastic, regardless of how I feel about a company. Lots of great games on all platforms out there, it would be a shame to pretend like that isn't true.

Nintendo can most certainly do better, and yes the game pricing situation is ridiculous, however I feel this is a sign of things to come for everyone.

The article that I just read had a period after "not a fan of mobile gaming." The next sentence started with "For me,"
Also, the next part about "wait and see" is in another paragraph. And please, leave Jesus out of it. Thank you

Si-Fly5d ago

15 years old was a generous estimate.

MaximusPrime_6d ago

Good article.

I have zero interest in any of the Nintendo consoles. I view them as family console.

6d ago
Yui_Suzumiya5d ago

If you knew some of the adult visual novels on Switch then you're idea would change quickly, lol

Stwert5d ago (Edited 5d ago )

Nintendo has long suffered from that image, not that they do much to try and change it of course, they want to appeal to a very wide age range and family gaming is a large part of their marketing.

Having said that, there’s been no shortage of games you wouldn’t want your kids anywhere near on their platforms for a long time now. The Wii is probably one of the worst offenders for the “family friendly” image and certainly back in the days when hiroshi yamauchi was in charge, he was steadfastly opposed to more mature content.

But the Wii U and Switch have more than their fair share of grown ups games (though even at 50 now I still love me a good few hours playing Mario/Zelda/Mario Kart/Metroid and many more) and the Switch 2, having finally gotten itself to a PS4 level at its worst, will definitely be getting more of the games that simply weren’t possible on the OG Switch, no matter how cut-down they made it. Cyberpunk, Hitman, Doom, Borderlands 4 and even Elden Ring are just a small sampling of games targeted at older players and certainly not what would come under the remit of the old “family console” image Nintendo mistakenly has these days.

Certainly they will still want to draw in the younger gamers and the casual family groups, but they have long since abandoned that as their only/primary target.

Stwert6d ago (Edited 6d ago )

I think, as the author says himself at the end of the article, this system isn’t aimed at him, fair enough. If you prefer PlayStation and PC gaming and flashy graphics over portability and Nintendo first party games, then you are certainly not the target.

Personally I can’t wait to get my hands on it. I have a PS5 Pro, PlayStation Portal, Series X, gaming laptop, Steam Deck and Legion Go in the current generation and I like them all for different reasons.

The Switch 2, much like its predecessor will primarily, but not exclusively, be for Nintendo first party games. Having spent well over 200 hours with Breath of the Wild on Switch, not to mention dozens of other games I’ve really enjoyed at home and away from home, I don’t doubt there will be similarly enjoyable games in the S2 lifetime.

To start, Mario Kart World, Fast Fusion, Donkey Kong Bananza and even Cyberpunk (despite already owning it on 3 other platforms), have all been pre-ordered and Metroid Prime 4 has been a long, long wait but I’m glad it’s almost here.

I enjoy a beautifully rendered, fully ray-traced game world as much the next guy, but hell, I started with Pong in 1978, graphics take a distant second place to enjoyable gameplay to me, then and now.

Kosic6d ago

I didnt find the switch 1 amazon, its still Nintendo doing what Nintendo does. So after a year of owning my switch it went in a draw and did not get used much.
I much prefer the route of the steam deck, so i don't see myself getting a switch 2 any time soon.

jznrpg6d ago

I like Nintendo console/handhelds generally. The 2 problems for me is not the console itself but the game prices and the key cards with no games on them. That’s a big turnoff

Ristul6d ago

Thats my biggest gripe as well, at this point the prices and key cards is a dealbreaker for me. Time will tell how many games are just a key on a card though, I might reconsider down the line if key cards are a minority.

Stwert5d ago

The prices for *some* games was a bit of a surprise, but not wholly unexpected considering the rest of the gaming industry.

I’ve paid those kinds of prices for PS5 and Series X games many times in the past, so it doesn’t really put me off.

I can however, see how people used to the more affordable prices of Switch 1 games are taken aback by the sharp increase in prices for some games.

As for the KeyCard games, I’m not a fan, I’d rather obviously prefer that if a game can fit on a cartridge, then it should be there. But again, discs with nothing but a license to download a game have been common since the PS4/Xbox One generation, I don’t like it, but it’s better than a solely digital download, or a code in a box.

They at least allow the reselling, loaning, trading of games rather than being tied to your account and only ever playable on your consoles. But it’s a big step back from actual content on a cartridge.

I don’t see myself buying them, purely out of principle. But unfortunately, I don’t think there will be enough of us voting with our wallets to make a blind bit of difference. It hasn’t with any other platform, when was the last time you saw a physical PC game? So I fully expect the Switch 2 to follow on with the rest of the industry in that regard.

...still better than a one time use code in a box.

Neonridr9h ago

people here forget that Sony sells Collector's Editions of games (God of War, Horizon, etc) that give you a steelbook with no disc. Just a code on a piece of paper. But because some 3rd party devs are choosing this route it's all Nintendo's fault.

Si-Fly8h ago

If the option was a physical cartridge or a game key card then that would be the best possible situation. However it’s looking increasingly like game key cards will totally phase out physical media and that is really disappointing. I have a huge physical Switch libary and was looking forward to doing the same for the Switch 2.

staticall7h ago

@Neonridr
But it was Nintendo, who introduced this game key thingy. So it's 100% their fault.

CrimsonWing699h ago

Ironic coming from an ex-Ubisoft lead dev.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH9h ago

How so? Do you think devs have any say on how a game is distributed?

Neonridr9h ago

yes.. they could pay full price to put their games on a cartridge, or pay less and provide a digital code and save money.

Which do you think devs would opt for?

CrimsonWing699h ago

It wasn’t about distribution… 🤦‍♂️

The irony being him criticizing what creates of the loss of making gaming feel “special.” You know, annual releases with a paint-by-number blue print, monetization, and in general just Ubisoft practices for the last decade.

Sorry that one went over your head.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH7h ago

Then maybe you should do a better job of making your point instead of readers assuming what you’re trying to say.

Muigi9h ago

Yet most games these days on Blu-ray's don’t even contain the full game or the game at all. But he wasn’t complaining when he was at Ubisoft tho.

Christopher9h ago

Kind of normal to not want to get fired for public complaints about your company, though.

Duke199h ago

Buying a physical box, just to open it for a glorified QR code is a shitty practice but I can absolutely see it becoming the norm sadly.

The enjoyment of owning something physically is going away, now its just a paid trial of services you never really "own".

Neonridr9h ago

except this is still a physical cartridge that you have to put in your console. You just have to download the entire game. But instead of it just being a code in a box (which is a one time use), you could still sell this or lend it to your friend.

It's not great no, but it's nothing like what we had with some Switch games.

Duke199h ago

Fair, its better than a one time use code but it I agree with the point in the article. It still takes away from the overall experience (especially from a nostalgia perspective).

Neonridr6h ago

@Duke19 - I mean we have digital edition only consoles now from MS and Sony. That's ok?

Seems like this is just a physical vs digital conversation, you can't exactly single out Nintendo here as everyone seems to be doing it.

gold_drake8h ago

thisnis definitely gonna bite nintendo in the arse in some way.

kids mostly use the consoles and not all parents know what to do with it.

also, what if u dont or cant use wifi ? lol

Wow, this is getting better and better!

Abriael1d ago

Best thing, it's not exclusive to an overpriced and underpowered console. Marvelous has been learning.

Vits15h ago

Oh yeah, the best thing is definitely that this sequel doesn’t come with the whole five-month hostage situation the original had. Clearly, that was the real issue all along, and thankfully someone actually learned from it.... Now we just have to cross our fingers and hope Sony eventually learns that lesson too.
