Oblivion Remastered: a crucial patch improves Series X performance - but it's still not good enough

Digital Foundry: "We're looking at Xbox first, with a small PS5 preview - the Microsoft console has received a perf-boosting patch that has yet to arrive on the Sony machine. Still, the Oblivion Remaster is a delight to look at compared to the 2006 original - with Unreal Engine 5's features getting a great workout through lumen GI and reflections. However, it's also clear that Xbox Series X and S each struggle with the game's open world nature, with hitches affecting play. A new patch version 0.411.141.0 (233550) released on Friday 25th April to improve matters, and it salvages some performance for Series X's 60fps mode - but it's still not good enough. "

Before this on SX, I was playing the 360 version with fps boost. I'd say this I a nice upgrade overall.

UE5 runs like ass on every platform.

hitches affecting play this is the same on all platforms - it is actually holding 60 FPS nice in performance mode... not a representative headline...

It does not hold 60 fps in performance mode in the outside world away from towns and houses.

Bethesda's rpg games always did get a free pass from reviewers when it came to their technical short comings, seems nowt has changed in this regard even when development is handed off to a 3rd party.

It's bad. Too bad really. They had a chance to do something special. The talent just isn't there anymore.

It's one of the worst performing games on digital foundry. The game is broken for most people. It's too bad.

I am such an apologist. I wanted this Gane so bad so I can't be as mad as I should be.

Oblivion Remastered Soars to the Top of the Previous Week’s Most Played Games on Steam Deck

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered rose to the very top of the Steam Deck Most Played Games list. Have you tried it yet?

"We have to admit, there is something extremely nostalgic about playing Oblivion at 30 FPS, with mild stuttering outdoors. And, even though it doesn’t run perfectly, it’s still so much fun. This could be one of the games that helps grown-ups find their way back to gaming."

I would assume most grown-ups don't get excited about products that don't work properly. I would also assume that most grown-ups coming back to gaming don't want to spend the limited time they have modding a broken game to get it to run properly on the Steam Deck.

Oblivion Remastered mod claims "plug-and-play performance boost" for 8GB graphics cards

The mod is a simple 1440p optimization preset, but what's interesting is that it's made by an AI for GPUs like the RTX 2070.

It's not true. Bethesda will do anything to sell a game.

The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered vs Original 2006 Release on Retro PC Time Capsule

Digital Foundry : The Retro PC Time Capsule format returns once more - but this time in the context of a brand-new game. Oblivion Remastered on PC running maxed out on a 12900K/RTX 5090 system is stacked up against the 2006 original, running on period appropriate hardware - a Pentium D 3.0GHz processor paired with the (then) almighty Radeon X1800 XT. Just how much of a remastering effort is this? John and Alex assess the remastering work, and fret about stuttering ahead of Alex's upcoming performance review.
