Nintendo Switch 2 Preorders Are Live – Here's Where to Buy First

Switch 2 preorders open at midnight EST in the US, but will stock hold out all day? Here’s every retailer link, launch day perk, and key detail you need to lock in your console preorder.

It took quite a while (over an hour) but got one. Between walmart, best buy and target... target won out. Had that thing in my cart and it kept failing to checkout. They had some pop up about limiting the number of people checking out but it finally went through.

I say this about all pre orders.... they should never sell out because it's just a pre-order. It shows demand and tells the mfg how many they need to have ready at release.

Got mine at Target as well, but in the first 5 minutes preorders went up - also had the few checkout errors, and then another "Something went wrong" when the order did go through but the confirmation didn't load. Then I got my card charge notification and knew all was good :)

It seemed a lot smoother than PS5 preorders were nearly 5 years ago. Felt like the Best Buy cart/checkout process then failed for like an hour before it went through. I was done with Target and Best Buy still showed "Coming Soon".

^^oh man best buy sucked. first you had to wait in the line then it asked me to sign in again only to have to add the item to preorder and then wait in line again and finally be told sorry, there are no more. Walmart was something similar. but at least target kept it in my cart and did not empty it so i could eventually complete the checkout.

Got mine at Walmart with a Pro controller. No hassle, wait in line for 10 minutes and another 10 minutes to preorder.

Correct. I put in my interest. Had the Nintendo account since conception. No email to avoid scalpers.

Thanks Nintendo, for nothing.

Interesting I guess all of the outrage and boycotting eventually subsided as they sold out pretty much instantly.

Funny though I'm in Australia I secured my pre-order the morning after the direct but there seems to be plenty of stock freely available here now.

Nintendo have allocated 8 million units to the launch which actually makes it the highest allotment of a launch console ever to date.

I wonder how much was alloted to the US

US and Japan are under supplied EU I'm unsure about Australia seems oversupplied I wonder if they will move stock around

arkard1d 12h ago

Could be a lot of bots going for resales. Guess we will see demand after it truly launches

Profchaos1d 11h ago

I had a good laugh actually I saw someone has posted on eBay their pre-order for $450.

Basically you're not buying the console just their pre order confirmation and it's worked someone paid them for what amounts to their place in line

People are nuts

Target app emptied my cart amd best buy took me out of line. Walmart kept me in line just to tell me it it was sold out. Hopefully my Nintendo direct comes through.

I was on, they were available. I went to PS5 section , games, Claire Obscure in cart. Same day delivery today hopefully.

Black Friday deal for me. I did want to pick up Bravely Default but it sold out at every retailer. Ridiculous…

Everyone wants a cheaper switch 2 and games

Vits10h ago

But of course, it's around 30% cheaper when compared to the global model. That kind of price difference really makes it hard to ignore. Even I would be interested in getting one, and I barely speak Japanese.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders cause havoc after going live in the US, just like they did in Japan

For some, Target's website crashed from heavy traffic, while others had better luck with Best Buy and Walmart's virtual queues.

ZeekQuattro1d 1h ago

At one point I had 5 tabs on my browser with different stores. I was in a line queues in all of them and still came up short. I'm shocked at Best Buy the most. I had luck with them mutiple times in the past. Not this time. They were the worst offender. I'll get the system eventually but I ain't going through that again anytime soon. 😆

I got on the waiting line on Walmart and it took an hour of trying and finally lucked out and got one.

__SteakDeck__17h ago

@Jin_Sakai People needed to stay in line on Walmart. After an house I got one. Hopefully they don’t cancel.

thorstein13h ago

I tried to buy straight from Nintendo. I signed up for the prebuy.

I got an email yesterday saying I could buy it after launch. After they talked all that shit about avoiding scalpers.

“People needed to stay in line on Walmart. After an house I got one. Hopefully they don’t cancel.“

Yea the waiting screen was dumb it showed no indication you’re in line so most people give up. I waited an hour and finally got in and was able to purchase one. I had to click the pre order button 100 times before it went thru though. Lol

Snookies1222h ago

I actually secured 3 pre-orders of the MK World bundle... No, I'm not scalping them. Just had to grab one for my Cousin and possibly my best friend as well if he wants it. Since their jobs would assuredly get in the way of them even attempting a pre-order.

Easiest by far was just going to Gamestop in person when they opened up today. Got there like 5 minutes before they opened and they still had a few left after I left. Got the other two at midnight from Target's app and Walmart queue. I also wanted insurance that one of my online orders wouldn't get cancelled or something.

I honestly question posts like this.

Actually the situation in Japan is VERY unique and different to America.

Every single retailer is doing lotteries....meaning you apply to get one and if you are lucky you get an invite. Usually it takes about a week or so to find out.

Also Japan has 2 models. The Japanese only model for ¥50,000 and the "international" model for ¥70,000. The expensive model is only available directly from Nintendo.

Luckily I won the lottery for the international model. Since you are only allowed to apply for one, most Japanese gamers are applying for the cheaper model making it much easier to buy the expensive one.
