I loved this in the arcade and was so happy they added it to the expanded edition of Atari 50. This game would be trippy to play in VR2 so I will get that one at some point. Right now, however, its on sale on XB for $13.49 ($1.50 off) so I just bought that version.
I love mostly anything Minter makes ... he seems to have been F'd over by some unknown drug in the 70s and simply rides that wave ever since. Great guy who knows what hes doing and sticks to what he knows - which are fun mechanics that work and a certain "visual flair" we've been enjoying since at least the first remakes of the classics if not the OGs... .Tempest 2000 back on the jag and later on Vita TXK and even further on tempest 4000 etc. its just endlessly awesome stuff along with all the other similar work it just seems perennial.
