I am so glad I grabbed that Astro Bot bundle disc based ps5 2 weeks ago. Get it while you still can!! And discless one PLUS Astro Bot is 330. Great value. I see this bundle is still available so: go, go, go!!!

Madness. For something that costs probably not much over half to produce than it did in production. Odd how there's been so many sales though. Frequently the disc console has been available for £410 with astrobot included recently - even this week. And now the digital console is going up to 429 with no game or drive? 😂😂

Production cost have not decreased at all. There is one company TMSC that dictates wafer costs and they have quadrupled.

Eh that's not true. A 1TB SSD was over £200 prior to PS5s release (yes it was only 800+gb in PS), now you can get one for £50-60. That's a massive difference. And you can't seriously be saying the GPU has gone up in price 5 years later.

Also the tariffs are for the USA, so why are the other countries now paying more? Sony protecting American consumers by making everyone else pay more.

It's not going to be just Sony, every imported good will be going up across the world because of the damage done by the orange mans tarrifs. This is what happens when you destabilise entire economics and sectors. You cause massive uncertainty and prices of everything rises which includes all the parts that go into making game consoles.

The US consumer will be hit hardest though, so I'm glad I didn't live there.

Every technology, every food, every bills etc etc rise. Gaming hardware and software aren't immune. If you are laughing at playstation, you're one weirdo who doesn't know how to use money. Every consoles, Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, PCs all have to raise their prices.
I'm not surprised, I see so many rises over 2 decades in this unstable world.

It's fascinating that people can appropriately blame the government for price increases due to tariffs, but they refuse to blame governments for any other bad economic policy that leads to price increases. A government can pursue inflationary policies for years and debase the value of their currency, then as soon as businesses raise prices to cope, everyone blames the businesses. It's almost like people can't do anything more than the most basic analysis of causality.

At this point I would suggest the ones who don't own a ps5 but want one. Plenty refurbished with warranty available go for that option.

I got a disc ps5 for 450 on launch. Who would have knew that would have been the best time to get one? lol

The disc version only goes up by $30 AUD which isn't too much of a sting, but I don't understand why the digital one goes up by $71, that's a hefty hike.

I suppose it could be worse, a 5090 shot up to $7000 here.

I said in another comment about the switch 2 pricing the industry as a whole is going to be more expensive I thought ps6 would cost over 1000 AUD but I never thought they would retroactively the ps5 price again

I've never seen this in all my years playing I've never seen a console price increase over time while it's a production system

Hopefully someday markets are not so chaotic, it was getting a little better than ruined in a month. It may be 4-5 years but hopefully it evens out before then. I don’t have much hope for it though.
