Why Handheld PC Gaming Isn’t a Real Threat to the Nintendo Switch 2

The Outerhaven says: While the Nintendo Switch 2 is a few weeks away, some are wondering about the handheld PC gaming devices and if they'll throw a wrench in Nintendo's plans.Honestly, I doubt it and I can't understand why others's don't feel the same way.

First party is what Nintendo needs, the next Steam Deck will probably run third party games noticeably better though with little doubt.

I just hope Nintendo has quality first party games and don't skimp on the content with long dry spells... One of the issues is that they rely on third party titles to fill in the gaps between first party releases, and if they're gonna drag it out again for 8 years with no Pro model in between, then all I can say is oof..

Even the Switch 1 is not worried about Handheld PCs. XD

shadowhaxor3h ago

Exactly. I don't see why people keep pitting the Switch/Switch 2 against handheld PCs. They are two different ecosystems, and they are treated as such.

There are unofficial reports that Switch 2 pre-orders exceeded 6M+ units Globally already. So if this is true, they have nothing to worry about.

I think it makes more sense to stack switch w against a steam deck than a PS5 still. As they are portable gaming systems at their cores it's only when you drive deeper they have significant differences things like the shared experience that is promoted in switch vs the more solo focused gaming of the steamdeck they are different but do cross over

But a switch 2 is more alike a steamdeck than a PS5.

It would be if they didn't drip feed the tech.

With a combined total of 6 million in sales accross all handheld PC's its absolutely not losing a threat to switch 2.

Combined with the fact that 150 million switch owners already have a library they will want to carry forward and it's heavily focused on families and shared experiences which portable PC's can't offer no they are not in the same league

Why do we think this is coming out on Switch 2 before Xbox? Any thoughts? The S2 is not more powerful than the Series S so it’s not a ‘lack of power’ issue. Perhaps the sales forecast is higher on S2 than Xbox so that’s maybe where their priority lies?

jznrpg1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

It’s definitely a sales issue. If Xbox didn’t have players used to GamePass I bet it would be there already.
