Weirdly enough Street fighter 6 is half the cost of Mario kart

darthv7251d ago

...and that one is a key card game.

Profchaos51d ago

I didn't notice I guess I assumed it would be on a cart instead of a key in the box

Well, if Switch 2 has any hope of competing with Steam Deck to be a catalog system (i.e. a system people buy as a portable/handheld way to play a lot of older games they have already played), older games will have to be cheaper. On Steam Deck basically everyone who has done any PC gaming in the last 18 years already has a built in library (and frequent opportunities to get games for cheap), so it will be hard to compete with that if older games launch at $60-90 on Switch 2.

Sitdown51d ago

I think you are completing missing the point of Nintendo. Their systems are the only way to correctly play their exclusives...they not trying to compete with Steam Deck.

JEECE51d ago

@Sitdown

Obviously that is the main point, yes. I merely bring up that comparison because, ever since the Switch 2 has been even rumored, people have been preemptively comparing it to the Steam Deck, and after the announcement yesterday, people have been hyping its third-party support.

Obviously the absolute Nintendo hardcore will buy it for Nintendo games, without caring about old third-party stuff. But as we learned with Wii U, that group alone can't make a system a success; it has to appeal to other people too. All I'm saying is that to appeal to the specific group I'm talking about, old third-party games need to be cheap. That's it.

Different audiences really I don't think they are out there trying to take anybody away from PC gaming.

About 1 month ago it was revealed that the steam deck sales are at 4 million roughly with the entire portable PC market sitting at 6

Portable PC's have enough of a tough time breaking away from the hard core gamer image in my view and don't represent simplicity enough for a family to convert to steam as a primary console.

Neonridr50d ago

Most people are buying a Switch 2 to play Switch 2 games, or their existing library of Switch 1 games.

How does the Steam Deck compete when it can't play Mario Kart or Donkey Kong?

It’s Nintendo vs 3rd party pricing, which we know has been around for many gens.
Nintendo is so greedy.. botw which was a switch launch title costs the same as botw. They never cut their prices

thorstein51d ago

Devil's advocate: Nintendo also pays their employees and doesn't lay them off.

Alos8850d ago

@thorstein Not really related. Nintendo being good in some ways doesn't excuse their flaws in others.

gold_drake51d ago

you better believe that first party gamesz ala Mario and zelda and smash are gonna be expensive asf.

why? cause nintendo doesnt dictate third party prices.

FinalFantasyFanatic50d ago

Sucks for me though, because I only buy first party games for Nintendo consoles, everything else is PC where possible.

gold_drake50d ago

i think it sucks for all of us actually ha

'Furthermore, Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of original Switch titles that add new content will also cost 79.99 US Dollars.'

'Additionally, Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of original Switch titles that don’t add any new content and only bring graphical and performance upgrades will also cost 69.99 US Dollars.'

Eonjay51d ago

Isn't there a cheaper upgrade path if you already own the game on Switch?

VersusDMC51d ago

Switch 2 versions that have extra dlc will probably have a 20 dollar upgrade path and the others are 10.

Some or all upgrade paths will be free if you have NSO+expansion pack.

originaljohn51d ago

There will also be free upgrades to games for stuff like Gamechat and GameShare

Neonridr50d ago

yes, just like if you owned a PS4 title and wanted to upgrade to the PS5 version.

Cellblock1151d ago

Just becasue some aren't that doesn't excuse the ones that are.

No, what it needs is 3D Dot Game Heroes, or Tenchu... Anything other than yet another Souls style game. They're a one-trick pony now. As much as I love Souls games and Elden Ring. It's sad to see them fall into a one-game studio when they have other IP's they're just sitting on.

Machina2h ago

Not it isn't. It's a multiplayer spin-off, not a Bloodborne sequel. There's definitely demand for a proper Bloodborne sequel.

I'd like to know how it supposedly took 8 years to make this when the open free roaming mode looks so empty, unless they're purposely not showing where the content/missions are..

Really how is driving around empty land going to be exciting? I find that so boring, I get some may like it but.. if there's hardly anything to do then why bother.

repsahj1d 6h ago

I saw a youtube video that there's platforming missions you can find throughout the map.
