Nintendo will prove this theory correct again meanwhile Sony continues to give away all their games and platform advantage by walking into the Microsoft elephant trap. Microsoft will come up with a way to get Sony's PC ports under their umbrella more than it currently is under Windows and do a big rug pull on them. They have been reportedly doing this with Steam already.

Profchaos33d ago

I don't think sony cares about any of their current games being playable on the Xbox next in two years but we will see what happens in the future

Scissorman33d ago

Yeah, things aren't quite the same today as they were in the PS1-N64 era. At the time, Sony really had to come out swinging and on top of its own first-party games, you had nearly every major third-party game being exclusively released for PS1. Sony used that to build the PlayStation brand and the loyalty that followed.

Also, regarding Sony's PC ports ending on a hypothetical Xbox device, I don't think Sony cares much. Xbox, for all intents and purposes, has dropped out of the 'console war' and is now focusing on becoming a publisher. What many don't quite understand is that MS now wants Sony and all its current/future consoles to perform insanely well. Every PS5/PS6 is another vehicle to sell MS first-party games, same with the Switch 2. MS has no interest in trying to win over folks from the other side anymore.

Michiel198933d ago

you have so little faith in sony that you think they're completely stupid? there is legal ways to prevent their games from being played on xbox through steam. Also it's pathetic that you're crying a sony game gets played on windows....MS earns nothing from games being played on windows, its the biggest pc OS bar none and if you're looking for the boogieman that will take away your exclusive games on pc, its steam not MS. They're making money off of sony's games so you should be angry at them instead and also stop the wehhh they taking my candy crying with your dumbass exclusives.

MDTunkown33d ago

After success of Spiderman 2018 later that year Sony announced what a great success the game was and they will release less first party games in coming years. On n4g people was praising this decision, after all we don’t buy consoles to play video games right ?
Competition between produces is good for consumers but when producers start co operate they create cartel.
Sony made so much more cool games when Xbox was a threat

anast33d ago

Nintendo has the most inferior console out of the bunch. They cannot go multiplat and sell their hardware to the same extent. Sony is keeping enough exclusive content to stay relevant.

I really feel like Playstation is almost irrelevant this gen, can't say I've missed out by not buying one when all of their "exclusives" are ending up on PC. I don't know why they feel they have to copy Xbox's worst trends.

People get offended over the strangest things. It's the truth of the business

@Starkoban

Dude, you are on a roll! 16 comments in 3 hours. You're on fire! Although I would have appreciated a user name that incorporated your catchphrase...something like "Sony Clown Chaser" or something like that. Also, spell check and proofreading are your friends. You should use them!

The Xbox is no more. The console is dead. Playing a PC port of God of War on a PC that has an Xbox UI isn't exactly an example of them losing exclusives to another console. You can take any PC in exsistence today, throw a Xbox UI on it and boot up God of War. Xbox is now a UI. The goal post has been moved for Microsoft so much now that we aren't even talking about consoles anymore. We are now on a completely different platform arguing over UIs. Also, I think in the end SteamOS will prove to be a superior OS to WIndows running in in a Portable console mode.

Everyone and their dog knows the importance of exclusives.
It’s only during Xbox’s exclusive dry spell when suddenly this became debatable.
For me it’s just another instance illustrating that media independence is a myth.

gunnerforlife33d ago

So what's changed? Where are the good exclusives? This generation has been utter trash!! Just remakes remakes with mayne less then 10 amazing exclusive, naughty dog has gone of the handle this generation, Neil Druckmann needs to get sacked before he single handedly brings down Sonys crown jewel.

Miacosa33d ago

Exclusive games are crucial if they were not Nintendo would have probably folded a while back.

and Lucky for Nintendo their fans are happy to be served with games looking 2 gens ago and being charged current gen prices.

Bungie at that time became the most wonderful bunch of hypocrites in the gaming industry. Knowing this now, gosh the entitlement they felt was out of this world.

Nothing like buying yourself from Microsoft because you don't want to be the Halo Studio anymore, and the FIRST THING you do is sign your next IP over to Activision, for a DECADE, while they are in the middle of ousting the heads of Infinity Ward so they can exert even more control over COD while screwing out the devs at IW...

Should've come as no surprise then that Activision gutted the content of Destiny 1 before launch and was a horrible partner through Destiny 2, until history repeated itself and Bungie had to split from Activision only to wind up in the arms of another major conglomerate that also doesn't know how to handle these unmanageable devs.

Profchaos4d ago

Tti their credit they praised the technical abilities of 343 and I remember at the time thinking halo 4 was a huge graphical leap above reach everything else was rubbish when I actually got to play it but there was no doubt it looked good for the 360 and is probably the best looking game on the system.

But ultimately I think bungie has always had a leadership problem and going independent ultimately proved this it's only getting worse with studio heads being outed by Sony for abuse allegations seems like all bungies past success has been in spite of management not because of it.

But really I think the bungie we have today is not the same one we had in that Xbox era of Bungie

PhillyDonJawn4d ago

I liked the artstyle change. For the most part. Something looked worse but most of everything else looked better. Weapons and vehicles for sure. The wraith come to my mind instantly.
And how can they get mad when the bungie changed it with Halo Reach?

Sciurus_vulgaris3d ago

I know a lot of people dislike Halo 4’s arts style, but there’s thing about it I like and dislike. Personally, the Halo 4 design of Master Chief’s armour is my favourite depiction of the character’s armour.

Dying Light: The Beast – interview with Tymon Smektala (‘Dying Light’ Franchise Director)

An interview with Tymon Smektala (Franchise Director, Dying Light) where I get to ask him as to how Techland was impacted by its DLC story leaks, how the studio has changed after being acquired by Tencent, where he sees the Dying Light franchise going in future, and how he's been able to maintain enthusiasm for the Dying Light franchise since he joined Techland 10-odd years ago. Enjoy!
