I get where he’s coming, from. I mean sort of, I don’t understand shutting yourself off from playing a game because you don’t agree with the setting or direction. But Silent Hill isn’t something that happens anywhere in the world, it was a specific city in the US that turned into a nightmare by a cult doing some unholy ritual that involved a child. Silent Hill is in Silent Hill, and those who enter it go into their own unique hell.

This didn’t show any gameplay whatsoever, but I still think the tone is Silent Hill, it just doesn’t make sense that this is Silent Hill in Japan. Unless, it’s like someone in Japan tried to copy the cult and brought this into their city.

I'm with you. This has nothing to do with Silent Hill story line. This looks like something more along the lines of Siren. Not a fan.

It has fog, otherworld transitions, pipe weapon, third person, akira yamaoka...pretty silent hill to me.

Just because it doesn't take place in silent hill doesn't mean it isn't silent hill. Only half of silent hill 3 took place in silent hill and it was still silent hill.

And only snippets of SH4, maybe a quarter of Homecoming.
They already realized 2 decades ago the franchise couldn't just keep doing the town over and over. We're probably getting remakes of SH1/3, how many other ways can you see the same town? Using the concept and branching out into other locations, characters and time periods only makes sense for any franchise. Resident Evil left Raccoon City behind forever ago. Plus, except for 2 examples they've always been original characters and stories. These people who claim it isn't Silent Hill are too up their own butts to understand theme succession.

It’s called Silent Hill f. It’s not a numbered Silent Hill , more like a spin-off but it does have some SH elements to it. Maybe this can help get a more traditional Silent Hill going but I think Blooper will do that if it happens. Either way I like what they have done putting it in Japan and clearly making it a Japanese horror game. Life is short enjoy what you can!

I am happy for a spin off. People seem to complain that this is not the same (I get it sone times things don’t feel right). It likely won’t be. But the series is full of deviations and experiments. Episodes that shoehorned Pyramid Head in needlessly probably showed far less understanding of its meaning than this. It’s not a mainline entry, I am sure the narrative with explain why the location is different or how they are linked. But if this a good horror game with good narrative then I am happy. I can mentally file the number plates off if it does not fit.

I don’t think it looks as much like Siren, which looked far more grainy and less slick than this. But that was by the original Silent Hill’s creator so there may be shared DNA somewhere.
