Can PSVR 2 Mount a Comeback in 2025?

It's been two years since PlayStation VR 2 arrived. But can PSVR 2 mount a comeback in 2025 and prove the critics wrong?

as an owner, it's fine for what it is.. But I don't know if I would call it a success. Sony themselves pulled the plug on the device like a year after launch. One of their premier titles, Firewall Ultra, had the dev shut down a mere 3 months post launch of their game. They released a PC adapter and basically wiped their hands clean and have no first party content in development for it. Relying solely on 3rd party at this point.

That's a funny definition of successful.

As a Quest owner and an avid PSVR1 owner & mega fan, I haven't seen any must have exclusives that I can't play on Steam (or Meta store *cringe*) outside of the launch titles.

Man, i still want it so bad for GT7 plus my g29 setup, but I can't justify the price considering what's already available to me! I expected a ton of Playstation exclusives to make me jump at buying a headset.

@OtterX - I also own a Q3 and can appreciate the convenience of the pick up and play. Sure it won't look as good as the PSVR2, but the Q3 is no slouch, and in VR, your brain can be tricked by the most primitive of graphics anyways (see Job Simulator, Budget Cuts, etc).

GT7 is really good in VR, and benefits even more from a wheel and pedal setup (although I couldn't recommend unless you are an avid racer). I'm a huge horror game fan, so I've been spoiled with Capcom's love of VR for their Resident Evil games at least.

I've loved re7/4, gt7 and a few others but a small selection can only keep you engaged for so long I'm not interested in indies and bigger budget games or hybrid games are few and far between.

Imagine buying a ps5 and only have like 10 games that's life for a psvr2 owner

I'm glad it now has PC support but they really should have done more to secure games on PS

Biggest missed opportunity was to adapt VR1 games to run on VR2. I mean Sony talked up how the 5 could run 4 games better... yet they completely omit how VR2 could run VR1 games better as well. They could patch the controllers and head tracking in place of the use of the camera and move.

they should have taken all the exclusive PSVR content and made VR2 versions of them, for sure.

Games like Farpoint, Blood & Truth and others would have benefitted from the better controls and tracking that VR2 provides.

Don’t get me wrong, I think the headset is awesome. RE8 and RE4 in VR are seriously next level experiences, but the decisions with this thing feel very… Jim Ryan, for lack of a better word.

This is the main reason why I didn't get one.
I have a bunch of PSVR1 games and was excited for the less cumbersome to setup PSVR2. Well that excitement obviously died after finding out that it wasn't backwards compatible. For a device that has a lackluster library it's a pretty stupid decision not to have backwards compatibility.

I can't speak for the PlayStation but it's a solid PC VR headset, for the price you'll have a hard time to find better. The OLED screen is the big selling point for PC.

I've heard that despite it being OLED it doesn't have typical OLED response times and there is some ghosting/pixel persistence issues. Have you experienced that?

No, unless you have DLSS on. Reading about it, it looks like the ghosting is caused by some games running at 2 x 60 on the PS5 but I think it's been fixed.

it's just a shame that a bunch of features are not currently present to be used with PCVR like with the PSVR2. Maybe devs can utilize those features moving forward.

Nah, it will takes years for Sony to restart its VR game production, it has less exclusives than meta and meta being wireless is a lot more comfortable

It's a great device. GT7 on the PS5 (especially PS5 Pro) Is an amazing game.

Other than the continual updates to GT7, Sony doesn't seem to be supporting it directly, but they do keep funding and advertising the best 3rd party games and those are phenomenal. In fact there has been a steady supply of great 3rd party games since launch. At least Sony has been profitable with the device, and contrary to the common assumptions, probably are still manufacturing units to keep up with demand.

And although VR will likely remain niche for a good while, I love that I'm one of the lucky few who have embraced it. PSVR2 has turned an otherwise poor gen into a phenomenal one.

If the Midnight Walk is as good as it looks - that would be absolutely insane in VR soon. As a PSVR2 owner - I certainly don't use it often but every now and then something comes along or calls me back that is an experience like no other. Namely - No Man's Sky, Resident Evil, Gran Turismo.

VR is an excellent time when using it, the problem with it as pathetic as it may seem is setting up and putting on a headset is more effort than just grabbing a remote and plopping down on the couch. It's also incredibly solitary by nature so it generally won't be used if others are in the room. Apple is learning this the hard way with their Vision Pro headset also (beyond its atrocious battery life).

Console players like to collect physical media and accessories, PSVR2 poses a problem in that most of the library is digital and the biggest title people want it for is GT7 which is a live service game that will be turned off like GT6. So then you are left with a paper weight VR headset. Compare this to PSVR1 which had lots of physical games and will still be usable for years to come. Part of this is also down to most VR fans are Gen X and Millennials. They haven't catered for that market, however at the same time that is probably why isn't growing much either.

Why would anybody buy this when there is basically zero future software planned for it? Sony messed this one up when they decided to stick to a cord and not figure out a wireless solution. Hate to say it but Meta makes the better headset.

I'd like to have a cheap fully working wireless adapter and a new wireless version. BTW, games have been coming every week for PSVR2, so I don't see it coming back... It's been here all the time.

At its new price point? I'm game. But where's all the physical media. My only gripe is everything is digital only. I'd like to see PlayStation first-party accept the challenge to use the tech. With PS3, they found ways to implement the PS3s "gimmicks" and it made for a awesome experience to change things up. Naughty Dog used 3D with Uncharted 3, Heavy Rain and InFamous 2 as well as LittleBigPlanet 2 and Killzone 3 found ways to implement PlayStation Move to add-on experience when you completed the core experience, though, you could play through Killzone 3 entirely with PlayStation Move, which I did and then on top of that on 3D and the PS3 rendered and handled it all without any issue. Even Insomniac Games took on 3D with Resistance 3 that also had PlayStation Move as an option, it provides something different and unique. Sure, it's a gamble, but if your gameplay teams are smart and doing their jobs, they're going to find really creative ways to implement it. And then, finally, even Ratchet & Clank does what it does best at finding ways to throw it in their as Tools of Destruction used SIXAXIS Support with the Mission Impossible type sequences, and then All 4 One used 3D so, it's all good
