both of those tags are wrong. Xbox is for the original xbox, remove Xbox Series S, the different styles of consoles dont get their own tags and this falls under 'Xbox Series X' tag

Abandon the Series S already and make the next-gen 1 console SKU only i.e 1 Xbox Prime variant. So that no devs have to compromise their games for yet another weaker hardware. Just keep it simple, PS6 and Xbox Prime.
And keep the Xbox portable optional or part of Xbox Series gen/SKU whatever. Dont push that handheld onto next-gen only development.

What of all the people that bought to XSS? It's presumably a large % of their existing console base. Can't just leave them all out to dry.

RaidenBlack146d ago

I meant to say, abandon the dual SKU/weakerSKU approach for next gen

crazyCoconuts146d ago

Gotcha. A traditional handheld would throw a wrench in the plans because they would have similar issues to the S... Lower spec device that you want new games to support.
I doubt they'd make it traditional though... More like a PC handheld where you don't guarantee game performance or require custom builds

RaidenBlack146d ago

Exactly.... or else another whole generation of games will have to be designed & planned just to run on a weaker system from the get go.
No more Crysis 2007 moment.

Series s is holding series x back like how PS4 is holding PS5 back.

Christopher147d ago

The games going to PS4 are also going to Xbox One... But the games going to just PS5 aren't being held back by the Series S.

That's not a good example. MS enforces "feature" parity and all titles "must" release on both day and date. Sony does not have that same requirements for their last gen console. That's why you see games like Black Myth: Wukong, Astro Bot, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, Stella Blade, etc.

Seeing as the 4 and 5 are two different generations... the better example would be the 5 and 5Pro which would be akin to the SS and SX. Both are part of the same generation. PS development targets the 5 first and then scales up to the Pro, so there are no games being made with the Pro in mind first. That is the opposite for XB where games target the X and the scale down to the S.

That is where you have developers who are concerned with scaling back on their vision and having to cut back on what they are wanting to make... like BMW. If they target the S first, then they would not be as critical of it because they would know the X would work better by virtue of being the better system. And can then add additional tweaks to take advantage of the better hardware... ala the 5Pro approach.
