Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delayed Again as Ubisoft Takes "Decisive Steps to Reshape" the Company

Today Ubisoft announced that it's hitting the brakes on the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows once again.

Yet, the issues at the company run deeper and Star Wars Outlaws' flop caused lower-than-expected holiday sales. As a result, Ubisoft is taking drastic steps.

Another delay. If it means getting the game right, polished, which is most important, then so be it. They can't afford this game to flop.

Abriael106d ago

The question at this point is whether they can avoid it.

Lightning77106d ago

I think so. The game was said to be in really rough shape leading up to its original November release date. Typical Ubi fashion though, they're so lazy at this point it's finally backfiring on them. Hopefully another month of Delay should help them but we'll see. Goof for Avowed, as they have a chance for success now that Assassins Creed is out of there.

NotoriousWhiz106d ago

It's like they say: 'A delayed game could be eventually good. A rushed game is bad until its Day 500 patch' or something like that.

PapaBop106d ago

The most important question is how many As does a second delay add to the game? Are we going to see the world's first AAAAA game?

RaidenBlack106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

I have a feeling these multiple delays will lead to a decent AC Shadows launch.
I am not that interested but will still check the reviews.

Furesis106d ago

usually delays are not a good sign lol

YourMommySpoils106d ago

Probably wont be delayed for that. It will still come out as a buggy mess.

Wintersun616106d ago

There is no amount of polish they can do to save this game.

-Foxtrot106d ago

Maybe they are hoping them delaying it will get them some brownie points from gamers who think it's really good of them to care that much about quality they've delayed it twice. It's like tricking your audience to go into the game thinking "this game will be a lot better as they've spent a lot more time polishing it" but in reality we don't know how much polishing they've actually done.

S2Killinit105d ago

Why? From what Ive seen it looks great.

isarai106d ago

Wouldn't put much faith in that. Skull and bones got delayed 5yrs and nothing changed.

dmonee105d ago

Not sure why so many disagree with your opinion. The writing is on the wall. They can’t afford this game to flop. Which makes you wonder, what kind of broken the game is in its current state?

RedDevils105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

What they really need to do is move away from the woke mindset and focus on creating better games, without being influenced by social or political agendas. imo, this would lead to a better direction, like how Disney recent movies all trash.

S2Killinit105d ago (Edited 105d ago )

Jesus. Stop bringing your trash politics into games by regurgitating any garbage you see on the internet.

How has Yves not been replaced by now? What type of plot armor is he wearing?

***Ubisoft announced today that it has appointed leading advisors to review and pursue various
transformational strategic and capitalistic options to extract the best value for stakeholders. ***

Oh, so more bullshit decisions that aren't for gamers. Gotcha.

Profchaos106d ago

He should be but the whole company is either going for a buyout or privatisation

https://insider-gaming.com/...

TheColbertinator106d ago

Yves and his family have resisted various takeovers by personally buying shares themselves. The strategy worked for years but it seems Ubisoft is out of time so the Guillemot family is letting go.

Abriael106d ago (Edited 106d ago )

That language is actually a very thickly veiled way to say that they're considering external investment. Possibly a sale.

Lionsguard106d ago

It was stupid to release right next to Monster Hunter Wilds anyway. If they keep pushing it back they can go toe to toe with Ghost of Yotei.

-Foxtrot106d ago

The closer they move towards Yoeti the more comparisons they will see online and if they do in fact get slaughtered by critics, gamers and sales it's going to make the situation for them a whole lot worse.

Profchaos106d ago

Just shining up the old golden parachute at this point buyout is imminent and the better AC does the better that parachute will be.

Everything else they have done in the last year has been a failure

MDTunkown106d ago

But they wanted to be bought off by tencent and Microsoft for multiple years now. Nobody is just interested in buying them

TriniOutsider106d ago

Where did you hear that they wanted to be purchased by Microsoft?

Profchaos105d ago

They want the buyout but want to retain control

They basically want everything in one bag but don't make it heavy

No Way105d ago

I'd be okay with Microsoft buying UbiSoft (or the IPs anyway). Hopefully someone can buy them (or have a drastic internal changup/restructuring) and turn things around. Ubisoft had been great for a long time but lost their way..

RedDevils105d ago

So basically they want to put their feet in the water but afraid to swim lmao

Don’t know what’s more disappointing for me about Ubisoft, that I haven’t bought any of their games in a while, or that I haven’t even felt like I missed anything not doing so.

isarai106d ago

Exactly this, last game i bought anywhere close to release was Wildlands, ive bought 2 games since when they hit under $10 which was FC5 and Odysee, beat 5 and by the end was glad it was over, played Odysee for 3hrs and never touched it again 😆 i genuinely feel like ive dodged a bullet with each of their releases i don't buy

Tacoboto106d ago

And the reward for fans of Prince of Persia The Lost Crown who bought on Day One - the team got dissolved.

It's just a lose-lose with them

I Don’t Understand ‘Blue Prince’

Shaz from Pixel Swish: "I had some thoughts (and a lot of questions) on the recently released puzzle roguelike, ‘Blue Prince,’ developed by Dogubomb and published by Raw Fury."

Me neither. Deleted it. Robocop is clearly more my level.

It's pretty damn good. I'm about 16 hours into it. Lots of secrets and mysteries. I'm on day 14 I think. Still haven't beaten it. Gotten very close a few times. Unlocked many secrets already. Instead of writing down things, I usually take pictures with my Playstation and write on them using the editor, its very fast. There is a small element of luck, but mostly it's about learning and planning and solving puzzles that are bigger than the one room you're in or the item you're looking at. There are so many secrets that some players will never know unless you put in the time and learn and pay attention. It's an eerie and mysterious puzzle game. I think it's addicting and a lot of fun. 9/10

kpgs10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

I just got to day 4. First 2 days I started going into it blind, and just trying to remember by memory but got overwhelmed pretty quickly. Got a handy dandy notebook and my notes will definitely help in the long run.

Been enjoying it so far, but with Oblivion dropping and me stupidly picking it up, might take a hit to my playtime on Blue Prince.

I like that critical thinking and puzzle solving go hand in hand, and you're not having your hand held the whole time.

jznrpg11h ago

No game is for everyone. We all have different tastes, some have broader taste some have more specific taste and it’s ok either way. Play what you like!

Christopher10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

***The problem is, the game tells you absolutely nothing about what you’re actually supposed to do.***

Getting to room 46 itself is a puzzle and the whole game tells you to solve puzzles.

***But how do you know if something in a room actually has meaning?***

It's a puzzle game. It's not just going to hand you the answer. I guess this is the point where we get to people who want an NPC to tell them how to solve the part of a puzzle and the people who truly want to figure out the puzzle for themselves.

This makes me feel like some gamers are becoming more like my nephews, they're not solving problems, they're just looking for youtube videos of people who have solved them and following what they did.

P.S. Please don't write another first paragraph like the one in this again. It really sets a tone that you don't know what you're doing.

PS5 Best-Seller in the US in March, Assassin's Creed Shadows Debuts in 1st

The PlayStation 5 was once again the best-selling console in the US in March 2025 in terms of units sold and dollar sales, according to figures from Circana (formerly The NPD Group). Circana includes the dates for the five-week period of March 2 to April 5.

Not surprised by PS5 dominance. It will be interesting to see if sales for ACS drop off the cliff or gradually slide down. UBI would want a gradual slide over many months while staying in top 10 for next 3-6 months.

S2Killinit12h ago

Assassins Shadows is a success whether some people like it or not. They did try their hardest. But in the end facts are facts (not that those matter to some these days). Im just enjoying the crow eating at this point.

neutralgamer19927h ago

It’s not that we want games like Assassin’s Creed Shadows to fail—most of us love gaming and want to see great titles succeed. But when big publishers consistently make anti-consumer decisions, it's important for the community to speak up. If we don't push back, we risk normalizing practices that hurt us as players in the long run.

A lot of people point to the hype around upcoming releases like the Switch 2 and say, “Where’s all the negativity now? It’s already sold out.” But launch-day sellouts don’t tell the whole story. Historically, every new console sells well at launch. The real question is how it performs over time, especially if concerning trends continue.

Look at what Nintendo is doing: they’re charging $90 for a remaster bundled with DLC—content that many would expect to be priced far lower. Meanwhile, Xbox just released Oblivion, nearly remade and packed with all its DLC, for $50. That’s almost half the price for significantly more value. So should we just sit back and accept Nintendo charging almost double, or is it fair to question this pricing strategy?

It’s not just one game—it’s a pattern. Nintendo has been making several anti-consumer moves: physical editions costing more than digital, while also raising the price of digital games. And this isn't happening in isolation. For years, the standard price for a new game was $60. That held steady for over 15 years. Then it jumped to $70. Now, just four years later, we’re seeing $80–$90 price tags depending on the edition, platform, and whether it’s digital or physical.

These things add up. The industry is slowly training consumers to accept higher prices and fewer benefits, and when we don't speak out, we're essentially giving them permission to continue. This isn’t about hating companies or wanting products to fail—it’s about holding the industry accountable so it stays healthy, fair, and respectful of its audience.

We all want to enjoy great games, but we should also care about how they’re made, priced, and delivered. If we don’t ask questions now, we might not like the answers the industry gives us later

"Digital SKUs for March accounted for 70 percent of Xbox Series X|S sales and 50 percent of PlayStation 5 sales. Digital SKUs year-to-date have accounted for 75 percent of Xbox Series X|S sales and 50 percent of PlayStation 5 sales."

Okay this is interesting.

yenevar7h ago

I see a lot of people talking about the 50% digital rate on PS5 but, that needs to be subtracted by the number of disc drives they sell. Also the fact that 15-20 percent of all PS5's are Pro's which are digital only by default so that 50% is heavily skewed.

In truth the vast majority of PS5's have a disc drive attached to them.

It's similar to the discussion about digital sales, where when you look at the total digital on PS5 seems high because so many games release digital only, but when you look at games that have physical releases the split on those games is still 50-60+ percent physical.

The majority of PlayStation owners still want physical games.

Lexreborn21h ago

50% of a game that sells 2 million is still more then 75% that sell 1million. So, it really doesn’t mean much if you don’t know the approximate numbers

yenevar55m ago

Lexreborn2

What is even the point you're trying to make?

Factually as we have seen reported by Sony and other publishers that games that have disc versions still sell 50-60 percent of the total copies physically on PlayStation, the number of total units sold is irrelevant when talking about the percent of individual products.

Kassanova073h ago

That site is so broken still after all these years.
