Days Gone might have been enjoyed by more people than Rdr 2 in the same way that McDonalds is enjoyed more than fancy restaurants. In that aspect it might be better for some. Rdr 2 is miles above Days Gone in how it's developed. Days Gone is rather basic in comparison, though still good.

Personally I enjoyed Days Gone from start to finish. 30hrs into Red Dead I felt it was dragging and wanted the story to wrap up but it just kept going and going.
However, worldbuilding, mechanics, depth, animations etc in Red Dead blow Days Gone out the water..

Days Gone was outstanding (imo) and I played it again on my laptop modded. Honestly better looking than 99% of games out with mods. I'd love a remaster. But RDR2 just has amazing attention to detail but it did feel a slog at times. Production values are insane though there isn't much to criticise

I think opinion articles are a sign that there are not enough new games or franchises coming out, this has been a quiet generation with the odd good title (indies games still are in a good place). I remember I used to click on gaming sites to see a snippet of news about a new game/console, maybe the odd exciting rumour. Now it is hot takes about oldish games and tedious culture wars nonsense or tedious console war nonsense from sites called things like “ThumbTriggerz”. . I realise arguing on the internet is a game itself for many, but it’s not that fun for me.
