I'm pretty sure it wasn't released early enough to be eligible for many of the awards. Which is a strange, considering the competition might be even tougher next year.

Babadook7168d ago

Look at the difference in review scores though. It’s not a fair fight here. Astro bot averaged 94.

MaximusPrime_169d ago

Why's the disagree? Have you tried opening the page? It's right there in black and white.

toxic-inferno169d ago

To be fair, I've just checked it and it's listed as 6th!

But I get your point - there seems to be a growing tendency for people on here to disagree with basic facts.

Mr_cheese169d ago

Probably because the post is about astro bot and yet the first comment is a somewhat dig at Indiana Jones.

1Victor168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

@maximis: “ Why's the disagree?”
.
Pay them no mind there’s a lot of hardcore Xbox that will disagree with you saying the sky is blue because blue is the color of PlayStation 🤣

.
Edit:To be fair the list is fluid at the time of writing it was 92 Astro is now at 114 and IJ is at 6

Levii_92169d ago

Good. 🤖

Can't wait to see what Team Asobi is going to do for the sequel. I think it's gonna be one of those legendary sequels. They have everything to prove and gain and nothing to lose.

toxic-inferno169d ago

To keep the level of creativity high, they'll likely have to change-up the idea of rescuing PlayStation-themed bots.

Regardless, I'm just hoping there are more levels based on franchises. The 5 themed levels in this game were some of the most fun levels in any game I've played. The sheer creativity in creating a genuine GoW experience in a child-friendly platforming game was genius.

DazaMc169d ago

Would you prefer the replace them with stars, or something equivalent?

-Foxtrot169d ago

@DazaMc

I suppose they could have a collector bot on the ship who's Trophy collection is stolen and you need to go and get them back. New bots could be special little side missions within a world where once you complete them they then join you. Memory cards could also be a one off special item that allows you to access a retro level based on a old school PS1 game.

Levii_92169d ago

I have been thinking about that a lot, about what they can do for the sequel to keep it new, fresh and creative. Rescuing of playstation themed bots and them being in the hub world is definitely not gonna be in the next game cause that’s been done already. The novelty of that is gone. That has been the heart of the game but for the next one they have to think about something completely new.

-Foxtrot169d ago

Yeah I'm looking forward to a sequel, I think there's a lot of avenues they could go down.

Personally I think it would be nice to have some worlds be more like Super Mario 64 / Banjo-Kazooie where rather than following the levels set path it acts like a mini hub you can just wander around in doing little missions or puzzles. The Winter Wonderland update did something similar on a smaller scale so it would be nice to get a mix of these in the next game, it sometimes annoyed me in Astro Bot when you miss a bot and the level won't let you back track so you have to replay the level from the start.

I have really fond memories in Banjo-Kazooie wandering around, heading into temples or houses to do a puzzle or visiting Mumbo Jumbo to transform into something that will allow me to access a certain area I wouldn't have gotten to previously. Click Clock Wood with the different seasons was fantastic level design wise in my opinion so it would be nice if Team Asobi give us some levels similar.

Levii_92169d ago

I have been thinking about all sorts of possible options and routes they could take with the next game and it all depends what they want to do at the end of the day but that being said.. i think having big open world levels like what you are saying for example also like Mario Odyssey would make Astro Bot lose that super sharp focus, structure and pacing it had so i don’t know. Whatever they decide to do i’m sure it will be another goty contender material.

neutralgamer1992169d ago

When it released I saw so much joy and people saying this game is what should win GOTY but once it started winning people turned on it. IMO ASTRO bot a love letter to gaming and should be celebrated

We as gamers need to stop playing both sides. We will support a game only for when it becomes big we turn sour on the game and start spreading negativity

Inverno169d ago

It's cause we've been fed that in order for the gaming industry to mature we need more generic third person action/adventure games with pew pew and try hard stories that come off preachy/convoluted. So of course people would turn on Astro, it's the complete opposite of what we've been getting throughout the generations. People can't fathom how a game that isn't at the level of an ND game graphically could possibly win anything.

neutralgamer1992168d ago

That's true gaming now a days is all about live service and hero shooters. It seems most big publishers are chasing the live service pie even if they have to go through very bad failures like Concord

Profchaos168d ago

It's like gamers who grew up playing the NES, master system, SNES and mega drive are now at an age where they are grown up and are having familes there's a resurgence in old IP without mature themes selling again were seeing stuff like gex and croc come back.

The industry is kind of coming full circle it seems

Profchaos168d ago

I was always hoping this game would win goty we need games that are centred around fun and joy it's missing in the gaming landscape today.

To be fair most negativity came from BMW fans who believed their game should be number one but with that game winning a total of 20 awards it was actually in last place for goty wins this year it's still a good game but let's be real it's not going to invoke the same feeling of joy that Astro does

TheColbertinator169d ago

It was a slow year. I understand.

pwnmaster3000169d ago

Stalker 2
Stellarblade
Final fantasy
Wukong
Metaphor
Call of duty
Astro
Dragon age
Hell divers 2
Hellblade 2
Tekken
Warhammer
Indiana jones
Legend of Zelda

Lots of great game.
Give credit where credit is due.
Team Asobi did good and brought a style of gaming Sony way lacking imo

VersusDMC168d ago

His statement makes sense if he is a xbox only gamer...xbox didn't get 5 of the top 10 games with the most game of the year awards.😏

MrNinosan168d ago

@VersusDMC
Makes even more sense if he's a Nintendo only gamer which had absolutely nothing of interest 2024.

Profchaos168d ago (Edited 168d ago )

Infinite wealth was also a highlight this year Astro beat it out hands down to

@mrninosan I disagree Nintendo had some quality games albeit was definitely a wind down year with paper Mario ttyd remake and Zelda echos of wisdom being standouts to send off the switch not as good as last year with totk and Wonder

Levii_92169d ago

I’ll remember your name and avatar when Astro Bot 2 becomes the highest rated game of the year again and potentially possibly wins GOTY again. ;)

anast169d ago

They put out a product that gamers in general wanted.

Sony's Live Service Ambition Died So PlayStation's History of Quirky Games Can Thrive Once Again

Nice little read and I really hope it rings true.

Gameseeker_Frampt9d ago

It is not every day that I get to read an article pointing to a videogame that is releasing on PC, PlayStation, and XBox and another game published by Bandai Namco as proof of Sony's return to "quirky games."

Sony does need to return to their roots but since they've closed most of their studios that took those risks it will not be easy. It would also be nice to return to those times where we go more than 1 new first-party exclusive a year. It is hard to take risks if you are only releasing 1 game a year.

Playstation owners buy games.

Strange seeing Hogwarts there as I downloaded it for my son from PS Plus a couple of days ago.

InUrFoxHole58d ago

Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.

Bathyj58d ago

Not really. It's directly contributed to having the healthiest console and ecosystem. Not really debatable.

The alternative is a console platform holder whose least important customers are the ones who own their console. That's why it's Microsoft games studios now not Xbox in all but name.

Microsoft needs PlayStation, PC and Nintendo players now more than they need Xbox players. They're a dying breed.

58d ago
andy8558d ago

Not really. That's why Xbox is going under consoles wise. PS gamers purchase stuff that's why console and game sales are always high. Xbox gamers want games for 'free' on gamepass and to enter at the lowest price point (series s)

VenomUK58d ago

@InUrFoxHole said “Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.”

This Tuesday after The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion was finally revealed I saw a tonne of conversation on X/Twitter of people gleefully mocking PS5 owners who said they were buying the game, as they were getting it for free with Game Pass. Yes, that’s great value for people with a Game Pass subscription - but do you still not see how it has impacted the Xbox hardware platform? It’s the reason Indiana Jones and Oblivion and Forza Horizon 5 aren’t exclusive anymore.

ravens5258d ago

InUrFoxHole, its wild that you think that's wild lmao. 🤯. You buy your food from the grocery store?? Ugggh. You should get Factor. Who pays for food anymore when you can pay a subscription to receive food for "free". Disgusting.

Sound stupid? It is.

InUrFoxHole58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

@Bathy
That's some cope there. You think the healthiest console is the one that doesn't even provide their gamers with their exclusive games? That crazy talk man. The healthiest is Nintendo and that's 💯 not even a debate. MS provides gamers with games. Sony provides you with MS games. Enjoy

@andy
You have broke brain. Gamepass isn't free. It's a sub service. Jesus n4g knows how to pick'em

andy8557d ago

@InUrFoxHole notice I put free in ' ' these? Doesn't take a genius. Every game that comes out on Xbox you'll see this comment "is this coming to gamepass".

2nd on the charts for a game such as Indy ain’t great.
Releasing half year after xbox version probably cooled off some demand.

This is a very good game, deserves the best chance to do well.

badz14958d ago

The real great performer here is Astrobot. keeping that rate of sales for a last year's game that is not GTAV, CoD and FIFA (now Hogwarts too). outselling MH Wilds and EA FC is kinda wild for Astrobot!

dveio58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Hogwart's, Indiana, Astro Bot & Monster Hunter - that's a pretty nice top 4 once again.

I bet MachineGames are quite happy about the sales pouring in.
