The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remake May Be Set For Release In 2025

The rumored remake of Bethesda Softworks' action role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, may be set for release as early as 2025.

This is specifically for console players. There's no way anything they do with this would even touch the two decades of mod work to be had here.
I hope they at least update the combat. Even Skyrim's was terrible and dated when it released, and that combat was a marked improvement over Oblivion.

I don't know. I feel the combat and Oblivion trumps Skyrim. Skyrim may have a few animations that look better, but it's incredibly shallow compared to Oblivion.

I'd say that one area that Skyrim indisputably beats Oblivion in is combat. Way better archery and melee.

I just hated the level scaling in Oblivion. That was my biggest complaint personally. Well, that and all the generic looking dungeons. Other than that, it was a fantastic experience. I just hope that if we get an actual remake. We also get Shivering Isles as well. I enjoyed the DLC more than even the base game, just because of the amazing level design. Made me feel like going back to Morrowind with how fantastical everything felt with the aesthetics.

So, if the rumors are true, then they might be using an older BGS game's structure to remake/replicate in UE5, so that, that build or a derivative of that UE build can be used for future BGS entries (likely FO:5, since ES6 development is already underway using a new Creation Engine build).
Hence there was another leak of New Vegas remake in UE. Likely similar plannings.
But all rumors and leaks ... only time will tell.

The world in Morrowind was vastly superior and way more varied than Oblivion. Morrowind was also the last time where you could actually kill all the important NPCs, including the main quest givers, while Oblivion took steps to protect the important NPCs. Thus making Oblivion the beginning of making the franchise way too casual, or AAA. Regardless, the liberty to off anyone was liberating. Oh, and the Oblivion Gates suuucked.

While I can give you the fact that the whole RNG/Dice Roll combat from Morrowind is terrible, cuz it was, and it is, when it comes to everything else, Morrowind is simply superior. Sure, not perfect, but it was a step in the right direction before Bethesda decided to fall off.

Morrowind is certainly the one game I wouldn't mind Bethesda revisiting. Especially if they get rid of that god awful combat system, bring back the liberty to take out important NPCs (Obsidian still does this), and better sign post quest markers without relying on arbitrary HUD elements or AAA arrows.

Oblivion is when Bethesda took an arrow to the knee and started their decent into Midness.

Nah man, the world of Morrowind outclasses Oblivion by a huge margin. The actual Oblivion areas in Elder Scrolls IV were really cool. But other than that, it was just a big forest map.

True but I think Oblivion being simpler, was the easier choice for a first time BGS game remake.
Maybe after gaining experience with Oblivion Remake, they can consider tackling Morrowind?
Remember Oblivion was the first console-focused RPG from BGS. "Consolized" as it was touted from the fans. Hence it was simplified compared to Morrowind.

Well the good news is, Bethesda have never updated their design philosophy so if you like their most recent games you'll have no issue going back to a game built 20 years ago. 👀

Well, lets hope they fix many issues Oblivion had. Like in a way it was great game when it came out, but very flawed one too. Though most broken thing I remember from it was leveling system. You had to not forget to sleep to level up. And in theory, that you got most stat point increase for things you did sounded good, but it was broken AF. Like if you weren't careful which skills you level up and made sure you did no mistakes, you wouldn't get combat stats you needed and you would end up way weaker than expected. Which wasn't issue in Morrowind where world didn't level up with you. But in Bethesda fashion of incompetence, they tacked on that system without any concern how it effects other systems. So you could end up with huge power gap between you and mobs. Or situation where you were cutting up mob like shish kebab for next 5 min, even if they wouldn't do much damage to you. And lets not forget that infamous quest where you need to babysit Martin in main questline at late stage. If you leveled up too much before that, those mobs would cut through NPCs and him like knife through butter and there was almost nothing to nothing you could do about it. On the other hand, if you came there at low level, you had basically almost tourist experience. :-D

Provided they do it. And provided it is not just "lazy remaster", which is basically slight engine update and increase to texture resolution... Even so, I do hop Khajit get bit better look, because every time I saw one in Oblivion, I felt like their looks were saying "please kill me". :-D
