Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Review - IGN

An irresistible global treasure hunt, and far and away the best Indy story this century.

TheNamelessOne189d ago

Pretty damn good reviews so far. I had faith in Machine Games to deliver.

Obscure_Observer189d ago

"Pretty damn good reviews so far. I had faith in Machine Games to deliver"

They did delivered yet again!!!

Just a few days to GOOO!!!!!

Lightning77189d ago

Think it has an 87 meta right now. There will be those reviews that troll just to bring it down. Final meta might be 85 or so.

TheKingKratos188d ago (Edited 188d ago )

Being in the 80s is absolutely amazing though

so dropping to 85% is not bad in any way

thorstein188d ago

Already saw one posted here. Chose not to approve it.

crazyCoconuts188d ago

This is awesome. Plus, it looks like it's well optimized for consoles and PCs out of the gate, which seems rare these days. I thought I'd have to wait a month before jumping in, so this is a nice surprise

lelo2play189d ago

Honestly... Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is having better reviews then I thought.
The first videos I saw, it looked good, but not great. Thought it would likely average around 70.

Glad I was wrong...

Tacoboto189d ago

86 on meta with 43 reviews on Xbox and 87 on PC with 42.

About equal to how well Wolfenstein II was received, just a point underneath it so far. That's awesome they seem to have pulled this off

blackblades188d ago

I'm curious of what VGAs wouldve been if it came out before them votes.

anast188d ago

It's actually 6-7.5. The scores are inflated by the occasional 10. But I'm sure the game is going to be decent fun.

lelo2play188d ago

ALL games have scores inflated by the occasional 10.
NO game deserves a perfect 10.

anast188d ago

Yes, I know. You don't need caps to communicate this.

darthv72189d ago

Looking forward to playing this.

dmonee189d ago

lol, Ill believe it when I see it for myself. I am not trusting of reviews anymore.

Armaggedon189d ago

People should always take reviews with a pinch of salt. The key thing more than anything is hook: does the game have something you are interested in? If yes, then you will like it. The difficult thing is that the hooks cant really get us jntil we experience it for ourselves.

SoloZelot90189d ago

False. Many things can have a good hook but end up losing you. I don't think you get why he doesn't trust reviews.

If reviews are supposed to give an overall expectation of the game and they fail to do so accurately by an enormous margin then you just can't trust mainstream review sites.

To be clear. If these sites can give a shitty game glorious reception then we can never be sure that any game with glorious reception is actually worth the investment.

Similar to the cry wolf dilemma

Elda189d ago

Agreed. The critics were praising Hellblade 2 & I thought it was a borefest. I like past MG games but I'm still a little worried about an action adventure game like Uncharted & Tomb Raider in first person. I'll see for myself when it releases on GP in a few days.

Armaggedon189d ago (Edited 189d ago )

@solozelaot
Thats the thing about it. A person wont be able to see the truth until they learn the true nature of things. The game is s***y because of your own preferences as a person. And this is not meant to be an insult, so please dont take it that way. A person that thinks a game is trash thinks that because of something within themselves, not the actual game. I have friends that think the witcher 3 is trash. I have seen people say BG3 is trash. I uninstalled black myth wukong for putting me to sleep. What is truly trash?

@Elda

Indeed. Its to the point where I just buy what I want without checking reviews. Now I know not everyone can just drop a bunch of money on a game on a whim, but reviews can alter a persons perception. Im aware of it and it still effects me as well. I play a game and think "man this is cool", then I see a persons negative review saying the game is an on rails husk. Next thing I know Im not enjoying the game anymore because Im focusing in on the "problems" that were mentioned in the review. This happens to me, and I am aware of this, so woe be to someone who has no idea about perception manipulation. lol

DodoDojo188d ago

"People should always take reviews with a pinch of salt."

Except with Veilgaurd, it's a 10/10 or you'll throw a tantrum.

TheEroica188d ago

What in the hell are you talking about?

Armaggedon185d ago (Edited 185d ago )

@Dododojo

Lol. Im probably the biggest dragon age fan/nerd in these comments, and I dont think its a 10. I think its solid, easy 7-9. I havent finished the game, but so far its an 8.5 for me.

@theeroica
Im talking about something that if mastered it will make your life experience better and more fulfilling. A hook is something that draws our initial attention to draw us into the rest of the work. For some its the visuals, for others the gameplay, and others still, the writing or acting. Without a hook, the player is not going to be invested, but what hooks who is subjective. Its why BG3 took off while divinity original sin 1 and 2 fell somewhat into obscurity., despite Divinity original sin 2 being arguably even more insane than BG3 is and made by the same devs. People picked up on the presentation and shock value of BG3 and it drew them to a system of gameplay that has otherwise been largely ignored in mainstream gaming. Sleeping with bears and respectable presentation even when making different choices got people hooked( and yes I know this is what it is because its literally what everyone kept talking about around launch)

The_Blue189d ago

If you don't trust reviews anymore then why the cynicism?

Lightning77189d ago

I know what you mean. Meta is nothing more than fanboy fuel and ammo or a measure of success or failure of a game. Notice how first party more than anything gets the most traffic, views, engagement, comments, clicks etc.

Meta isnt and has never will be the end all be all. I played plenty of 4, 5 scoring games that I enjoyed back during PS2 OG Xbox days. But then again a 5 in that generation is not the same 5 now.

babadivad188d ago

I think Dragon Age was the tipping point for the general public.

Sitdown188d ago

So why even waste time commenting?

look If you guys want us to pay more for games, at least give us quality. This game has to many BUGS...npc s stuck in walls, found artifacts do not register, Gina who refuses to follow....and for some puzzles you have to go back and forth between light and moderate difficulty🤷🤷 ...the Indiana Jones vibe is good, but this game is not long enough for a singleplayer game and the fun action sequences (plane and boat) where wayyyyy too short. It s not worth a 9. period

First and foremost, this must be great for the folks at Machine Games. Well done & congrats!

Xbox making BIG money out of Playstation nation this year!

Oblivion Remaster is already the third biggest release on PS5 this year! Only behind (so far) of Monster Hunter: Wild and Assassins Creed Shadows!

Shadow Dropped!
Zero Marketing!
Instant Success!

Profchaos45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

So is Sega these days.

Funny really you make a good game and make it available for sale and people buy it. What a world we live in

northpaws45d ago

Still this argument? Lol.

The truth is the Xbox division cannot even survive without PS now, not the other way around.

Obscure_Observer44d ago

@Kornholic

"It's a shame that Xbox players don't respect games and game culture enough to support them."

You should take your concerns to the devs who gets fat checks upfront and supports Gamepass with their games in the first place, not the gamers. Gamepass is not for free, you know?

I pay, they provide. It´s simple as that. I´ll enjoy my games on Gamepass for as long as I can. I´ll support the games that aren´t available on Gamepass as well, but I refuse to be ripoff by a company like Nintendo and their insanely overpriced products. My money! My rules!

@MrDead

"You should be thanking the people that keep the industry alive by buying games, the fact that MS tried to ban multiplatform publishers from their biggest console market is detrimental to the industry."

Now they´re making games and making big money out of everyone and your lame rhetoric was destroyed.

And yes, you´re right. Xbox gamers should thank PC, Nintendo, Mobile and Playstation gamers for support Xbox gamers while funding and making those games available to us day one and making XGS a better, more profitable and financial stable for Xbox developers.

Kornholic44d ago

@Obscure_Observer

Lmao, you don't have the courage to even reply to the commenters directly anymore.

Kornholic45d ago

Since the majority of Xbox players absolutely REFUSE to buy and pay for games, it wouldn't be even possible to make these types of big budget games without releasing them on PS5.

It's a shame that Xbox players don't respect games and game culture enough to support them.

ThinkThink44d ago

If I'm supporting the game and studio by paying for it via gamepass, I'm not also going to buy the game on top of that unless it is about to leave the service and I want to finish it. That would be like subscribing to Netflix while going out and buying Stranger Things box set on bluray.

Kornholic44d ago

@ThinkThink

That's just the thing - you AREN'T supporting the games and the studios by using Game Pass. That's the whole point. I can't believe you had the audacity to actually type that comment. Absolutely crazy work.

Show some appreciation for games and gaming culture by starting to actually pay for the games you are playing.

ThinkThink41d ago

Kornholic, you're saying that microsoft isn't paying the developers to put their games on gamepass? Developers are doing it for free? That's wild, I had no idea. I will go out and buy all games from now on. Thanks

MrNinosan45d ago

Playstation making BIG money out of Xbox nation this year.

Zero work, zero costs, zero risks... just collecting gold.
Just like with Sega and other big third party studios 🙌

dveio45d ago

And it's not just that 30% cut only.

Imagine if there's just one person saying:

"Mmmh, Indiana Jones is now on PS5. I just wanted to buy a new console. Oh, look here, Forza on PS now, too? Oh, what's that - Death Stranding 2 only on PS5? I guess I'm gonna get a PS5 then."

These are the decisions that lead to quarterly financial reports seen in the last one.

When Playstation made almost double the revenue of what Xbox did, with increased, even record hardware sales and profits.

It's not just that "30% cut".

lukasmain44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Yes and some people don't seem to understand, the more consoles Playstation sells (because more people choose PS5 because of this), even more money they make because these people don't just buy these Xbox games on our console, they buy ALL 3rd party games across the board and Sony gets money from ALL of them. Sony is making a killing even more now. Some people don't realise just how much of a big massive WIN this is for Sony, now that MS put their games there. Just more 3rd party games that Sony gets a big fat chunk from. More games for all the users to choose from and Sony just sits back, on top of releasing their own games and the 2nd party games too. Sony is laughing. MS is laughing. Playstation gamers are laughing. Xbox gamers get what they've always had, their GamePass to continue unimpeded.

But they dont get Sony's games and we get all theirs, that's the kicker lol

ravens5244d ago

Bro. 🤦🏾. This ish isn't embarrassing to u??

MrDead44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

You should be thanking the people that keep the industry alive by buying games, the fact that MS tried to ban multiplatform publishers from their biggest console market is detrimental to the industry.

Thank you gamers for buying this game and slowing down MS's mass layoffs and market manipulation is what you should be saying here.

raWfodog44d ago

That's a weird take on it since Oblivion was also released on PS3 back in the days, but okaaay. We know what you're trying to do LOL.

It's really no surprise that a publisher is taking advantage of available platforms to release their games on. I mean that's what EA, Ubisoft, and Activision (before becoming Xbox Games) have always done. It's poor business decision otherwise. This just means that Playstation is the best place to have access to all of the great games.

Jigga6945d ago

Now that Xbox fanboys have accepted that xbox games will be released on PS5 (and Switch 2), Microsoft will be able to release them on Day one from now on. Just had to get people to swallow the pill.

dveio45d ago

I really gotta say I am a bit curious about E-Day.

With hardly any sales anymore, wether hardware nor software, probably not even subscriptions in a quantity they would want to have:

Is Spencer going to pull the trigger and bring Gears D1 on Playstation?

raWfodog44d ago (Edited 44d ago )

Yeah, it's funny how some Xbox fanboys thought it would be a cold day in hell before Xbox first party games would ever release on PS. Then they kept moving the goal posts back each time a game came over to PS ("it's okay for that game, but it will never be this game, etc."). And now it's "We're making money ever time PS gamers buy our games, Yay!"

The very definition of "Cope".

goken45d ago

It’s what a good game from a good franchise deserves.
I still think it would have done better if it came out on PS5 day one.

dveio45d ago

That's my guess, too.

In hindsight, it's really been a bold decision to not release it on Playstation in a month like December.

But instead back in August already to announce it's going to come to Playstation, then proceed to make it a weird "4 ½ months timed exclusive", and then to release it in a time with so much competition/big games being around.

Isn't this just weird?

I mean why would you do that, purely from a business point of view speaking.

Eonjay45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Well in reality Microsoft probably wanted to release D1 on PlayStation but probably made the decision late in development... remember in an interview Spencer said, just a few months earlier, that the game would not be coming to PlayStation.

So this is probably the result of a bunch of 'inside baseball'.

The result is that Microsoft is on pace to dominate PlayStation sales charts for the month of April and May. It's great for Sony too as they get a windfall of platforming fees from a former competitor.

All in all this is good for both companies and even better for PlayStation consumers that get access to PlayStation exclusive games like Death Stranding and Ghost of Yotie on top of games like Indiana Jones, Forza, Doom, Oblivion, 33, and GTA all in the same year.

dveio44d ago

Well, yeah. Nothing to disagree with you.

Although, as far as "dominating Playstation charts" goes:

We'll see. I have nothing against anyone dominating anything.

But this term of "domination" shouldn't be used too losely I suppose.

Indiana Jones was #1 best-selling game in a single week (so far). Let's see how Forza went.

And after May we'll have better numbers, or even after 2025.

I guess it's safe to say Clair Obscure already surpassed Indiana's sales on PS5.
