Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Review Embargo Lifts Dec. 5; Launch Trailer Arrives Dec. 2

With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to release next week, we can officially confirm that reviews will arrive on Dec. 5

DarXyde166d ago

Haven't the previews been very positive?
Sure, all bad games have eleventh hour Embargo dates, but not all eleventh hour embargo dates feature bad games.

Cacabunga166d ago

I think this game might turn out nice, but i just hope it has a 3rd person view

Sonic1881166d ago

It hasn't been that great for Microsoft. Stalker 2 and Flight simulator got low review scores. I hope Indiana Jones changes that.

RaiderNation165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

Every Xbox game preview has been positive. You can't always go by that. Redfall's previews were positive, Hellblade 2's previews were positive, STALKER 2's previews were positive. Flight Sim 24's previews were positive.
Yet they all released to mediocre reviews.

DarXyde165d ago (Edited 165d ago )

RaiderNation,

Agree on Redfall and Flight Simulator, but Stalker 2 sounds like a great game held back by awful circumstances. I personally can't be too hard on it for that, but with the technical issues, I did mention in another topic that it was perhaps assessed on a curve.

Hellblade II was never going to really win any new fans. It's a niche franchise and it... Looks pretty faithful to what made the that niche audience enjoy the first. With all of the visual splendor, of course.

The last two games probably are 8/10 titles, which is still a really good score. I would think Indiana Jones will do as well, perhaps up to an 8.8/10, we'll say.

coolbeans166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

Technically incorrect.

-4 days before launch
-1 day before "earlier access" launch with the premium edition (if pre-ordered)

SoloZelot90166d ago

So technically correct.
The game launches with the premium edition.thats the real launch date.

gold_drake166d ago

so i was still right, but thanks for confirming.

coolbeans166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

@SoloZelot90 & @gold_drake

I'm not sure what's compelling you to double-down against my correct clarification, but okay.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wi...

Every advertisement, official source, etc. on this game says "releases December 9th for PC & Xbox Series."

Profchaos166d ago

Let's be serious here early access is really just day 1.

The game is officially released to the public therefore it's day one doesn't matter if you pay more for it it's officially day 1 everyone who buy the standard edition get the game on day 4

coolbeans165d ago

@Profchaos

No, a better way of understanding it is like an officially-endorsed broken street date at a premium. By your same rationale, virtually *no* movie, game, etc. has then ever released on its posted release date. Look at movies: official Friday releases for big blockbusters, but some theaters would even do late Wednesday night showings. So, then, who actually saw it on opening night?

-"The game is officially released to the public therefore it's day one doesn't matter if you pay more for it it's officially day 1"

Again, no, the more accurate framing is to view it from the perspective of the *general public*. The $100 Premium Edition owner is not the general public. It's also important to consider the context of gold_drake's slanted original comment. The discussion is completely different if this is what he said: review embargo lifts only 1 day before for those who pre-ordered the Premium Edition, but 4 days ahead for the rest. That info is far more precise.

The fact that people are so confidently doubling-down against clarifying statements is absurd.

As far as Bethesda goes it's been standard practice since fallout 4

CrimsonWing69166d ago

I’m thinking 7s and 8s from what I’ve seen. Looks good, but not great. Here’s hoping I’m wrong and it is amazing. I want this game to be memorable. It’s one of my favorite movie IPs.

TheNamelessOne166d ago

I mean, Machine Games really are great at what they do. One of the best SP shooter devs in the field right now, honestly. I'm hoping they do good work here.

Lightning77166d ago

I see 82 meta. Which is the usual score most triple A's get these days. 80-84 seems to be a hard ceiling for most triple A's. 85 is tough and scoring above that is even harder and not super common.

anast166d ago

It's one of my favorites too.

ANIALATOR136166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

8/10 I reckon

RaiderNation164d ago

I'm thinking 7/10. But I'd like to be pleasantly surprised.

goken166d ago

Don’t think this will be a bad game.
8s maybe?
Hopefully it’ll be as great game, my reservations on the first person gameplay not withstanding

VersusDMC166d ago

After finding out this had an early access I just noticed that the premium edition upgrade is 5 dollars more expensive if bought separately.
70 for standard, 100 for premium and 35 for premium upgrade.

I guess it's a gamepass user tax?

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (PS5) Review - Jump Dash Roll

Indiana Jones is back, and this time on PlayStation 5. Is The Great Circle akin to the Holy Grail, or more like a Crystal Skull? JDR grabs its whip and find's out in today's review.

look If you guys want us to pay more for games, at least give us quality. This game has to many BUGS...npc s stuck in walls, found artifacts do not register, Gina who refuses to follow....and for some puzzles you have to go back and forth between light and moderate difficulty🤷🤷 ...the Indiana Jones vibe is good, but this game is not long enough for a singleplayer game and the fun action sequences (plane and boat) where wayyyyy too short. It s not worth a 9. period

Xbox making BIG money out of Playstation nation this year!

Oblivion Remaster is already the third biggest release on PS5 this year! Only behind (so far) of Monster Hunter: Wild and Assassins Creed Shadows!

Instant Success!

Profchaos17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

So is Sega these days.

Funny really you make a good game and make it available for sale and people buy it. What a world we live in

northpaws17d ago

Still this argument? Lol.

The truth is the Xbox division cannot even survive without PS now, not the other way around.

Obscure_Observer16d ago

@Kornholic

"It's a shame that Xbox players don't respect games and game culture enough to support them."

You should take your concerns to the devs who gets fat checks upfront and supports Gamepass with their games in the first place, not the gamers. Gamepass is not for free, you know?

I pay, they provide. It´s simple as that. I´ll enjoy my games on Gamepass for as long as I can. I´ll support the games that aren´t available on Gamepass as well, but I refuse to be ripoff by a company like Nintendo and their insanely overpriced products. My money! My rules!

@MrDead

"You should be thanking the people that keep the industry alive by buying games, the fact that MS tried to ban multiplatform publishers from their biggest console market is detrimental to the industry."

Now they´re making games and making big money out of everyone and your lame rhetoric was destroyed.

And yes, you´re right. Xbox gamers should thank PC, Nintendo, Mobile and Playstation gamers for support Xbox gamers while funding and making those games available to us day one and making XGS a better, more profitable and financial stable for Xbox developers.

Kornholic16d ago

@Obscure_Observer

Lmao, you don't have the courage to even reply to the commenters directly anymore.

Kornholic17d ago

Since the majority of Xbox players absolutely REFUSE to buy and pay for games, it wouldn't be even possible to make these types of big budget games without releasing them on PS5.

It's a shame that Xbox players don't respect games and game culture enough to support them.

ThinkThink16d ago

If I'm supporting the game and studio by paying for it via gamepass, I'm not also going to buy the game on top of that unless it is about to leave the service and I want to finish it. That would be like subscribing to Netflix while going out and buying Stranger Things box set on bluray.

Kornholic16d ago

@ThinkThink

That's just the thing - you AREN'T supporting the games and the studios by using Game Pass. That's the whole point. I can't believe you had the audacity to actually type that comment. Absolutely crazy work.

Show some appreciation for games and gaming culture by starting to actually pay for the games you are playing.

ThinkThink13d ago

Kornholic, you're saying that microsoft isn't paying the developers to put their games on gamepass? Developers are doing it for free? That's wild, I had no idea. I will go out and buy all games from now on. Thanks

MrNinosan17d ago

Playstation making BIG money out of Xbox nation this year.

Zero work, zero costs, zero risks... just collecting gold.
Just like with Sega and other big third party studios 🙌

dveio17d ago

And it's not just that 30% cut only.

Imagine if there's just one person saying:

"Mmmh, Indiana Jones is now on PS5. I just wanted to buy a new console. Oh, look here, Forza on PS now, too? Oh, what's that - Death Stranding 2 only on PS5? I guess I'm gonna get a PS5 then."

These are the decisions that lead to quarterly financial reports seen in the last one.

When Playstation made almost double the revenue of what Xbox did, with increased, even record hardware sales and profits.

It's not just that "30% cut".

lukasmain16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Yes and some people don't seem to understand, the more consoles Playstation sells (because more people choose PS5 because of this), even more money they make because these people don't just buy these Xbox games on our console, they buy ALL 3rd party games across the board and Sony gets money from ALL of them. Sony is making a killing even more now. Some people don't realise just how much of a big massive WIN this is for Sony, now that MS put their games there. Just more 3rd party games that Sony gets a big fat chunk from. More games for all the users to choose from and Sony just sits back, on top of releasing their own games and the 2nd party games too. Sony is laughing. MS is laughing. Playstation gamers are laughing. Xbox gamers get what they've always had, their GamePass to continue unimpeded.

But they dont get Sony's games and we get all theirs, that's the kicker lol

ravens5216d ago

Bro. 🤦🏾. This ish isn't embarrassing to u??

MrDead16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

You should be thanking the people that keep the industry alive by buying games, the fact that MS tried to ban multiplatform publishers from their biggest console market is detrimental to the industry.

Thank you gamers for buying this game and slowing down MS's mass layoffs and market manipulation is what you should be saying here.

raWfodog16d ago

That's a weird take on it since Oblivion was also released on PS3 back in the days, but okaaay. We know what you're trying to do LOL.

It's really no surprise that a publisher is taking advantage of available platforms to release their games on. I mean that's what EA, Ubisoft, and Activision (before becoming Xbox Games) have always done. It's poor business decision otherwise. This just means that Playstation is the best place to have access to all of the great games.

Jigga6917d ago

Now that Xbox fanboys have accepted that xbox games will be released on PS5 (and Switch 2), Microsoft will be able to release them on Day one from now on. Just had to get people to swallow the pill.

dveio17d ago

I really gotta say I am a bit curious about E-Day.

With hardly any sales anymore, wether hardware nor software, probably not even subscriptions in a quantity they would want to have:

Is Spencer going to pull the trigger and bring Gears D1 on Playstation?

raWfodog16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

Yeah, it's funny how some Xbox fanboys thought it would be a cold day in hell before Xbox first party games would ever release on PS. Then they kept moving the goal posts back each time a game came over to PS ("it's okay for that game, but it will never be this game, etc."). And now it's "We're making money ever time PS gamers buy our games, Yay!"

The very definition of "Cope".

goken17d ago

It’s what a good game from a good franchise deserves.
I still think it would have done better if it came out on PS5 day one.

dveio17d ago

That's my guess, too.

In hindsight, it's really been a bold decision to not release it on Playstation in a month like December.

But instead back in August already to announce it's going to come to Playstation, then proceed to make it a weird "4 ½ months timed exclusive", and then to release it in a time with so much competition/big games being around.

Isn't this just weird?

I mean why would you do that, purely from a business point of view speaking.

Eonjay17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Well in reality Microsoft probably wanted to release D1 on PlayStation but probably made the decision late in development... remember in an interview Spencer said, just a few months earlier, that the game would not be coming to PlayStation.

So this is probably the result of a bunch of 'inside baseball'.

The result is that Microsoft is on pace to dominate PlayStation sales charts for the month of April and May. It's great for Sony too as they get a windfall of platforming fees from a former competitor.

All in all this is good for both companies and even better for PlayStation consumers that get access to PlayStation exclusive games like Death Stranding and Ghost of Yotie on top of games like Indiana Jones, Forza, Doom, Oblivion, 33, and GTA all in the same year.

dveio17d ago

Well, yeah. Nothing to disagree with you.

Although, as far as "dominating Playstation charts" goes:

We'll see. I have nothing against anyone dominating anything.

But this term of "domination" shouldn't be used too losely I suppose.

Indiana Jones was #1 best-selling game in a single week (so far). Let's see how Forza went.

And after May we'll have better numbers, or even after 2025.

I guess it's safe to say Clair Obscure already surpassed Indiana's sales on PS5.

UK Sales Charts: Expedition 33 Debuts in Second Place, Almost All Sales for PS5 Version

The UK's physical sales charts for last week are here, and it's more good news for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The RPG has debuted at number two, only trumped by Hogwarts Legacy, which has been top for several weeks in a row.

Furthermore, 96 per cent of the copies sold were for PS5 — perhaps not as shocking a statistic when you remember the game launched on Game Pass on Xbox systems, but in the realm of physical sales, that's quite the gulf.

dveio17d ago

Geez.

I don't even know how to put it.

I mean, yeah, ok, that's just impressive.

While still remembering times when Xbox discs were on par or even sold more than Playstation's in the UK.

VenomUK16d ago

That stark difference between sales on the different platforms, 96% on PS5 and 4% on Xbox, is much larger than I think anyone was expecting. The only people buying it on Xbox are likely the ardent physical game collector enthusiasts.

It demonstrates that including premium games as day one freebies with subscription services kills off any demand from consumers to purchase them. If Microsoft had 100 million Game Pass subscribers this business model would be profitable for it - but it doesn't so every game that launches this way has lost out. In time industry experts will look back at Game Pass and pontificate on day one releases' effect on customer buying habits and the harm it did to the Xbox ecosystem.

ThinkThink16d ago

I think 60 million is realistic in the next couple of years. I guess we will see how the "this is an xbox" initiative goes with cloud and smart TVs. That's the only way they will be able to further expand gamepass numbers. XCloud needs to get out of beta first. More servers needed to mitigate wait times and continue to reduce latency.

jznrpg17d ago

Proud of those 4 percent of Xbox players supporting games with their wallet and going physical. Not a joke.

DarXyde16d ago

Certainly worthy of praise.

For the rest of you, you deserve Microsoft doing things like DRM check-ins. Y'all are too excited to see an all digital future without pushing these companies to do better with digital rights first.

Eonjay17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

Here hoping they got a healthy deal from Microsoft. If they do DLC they may be able to cash in on a bunch of GP subscribers. And of course really nice to see this selling so well on PlayStation.

goken17d ago

While we’re at it, Maybe 50% of those wanted to buy it for Xbox but accidentally bought the PS5 version instead and will be taking it back to the store to exchange it in the coming days.

Scissorman17d ago

This is why devs praise being on Game Pass. They know that the Xbox install base won't buy their game anyway, and they get a nice payout upfront. It's a complete win win.

mkis00717d ago

This game could have made more if it wasn't on gamepass. Only under the radar ones benefit that much from gamepass.

dveio17d ago

I'd guess they saw the potential of the game and paid Sandfall a very (!) good amount of compensation before-hand.

OptimusDK16d ago

So you know the deal they made

ThinkThink16d ago

Zero chance I'd ever buy an Indiana Jones game for 80 bucks though. Would much rather put that towards something like assassin's creed shadows. I did quite enjoy Indiana Jones on gamepass though.

Bathyj17d ago

More likely they were taking the safe option and getting a payout up front in case it didn't sell and now they are regretting it as it could have been a big hit .

who knows that ratio could have been closer to 60 40 had it not been on Game pass

MrNinosan17d ago

The ratio will never be 60/40, not even close whatever game it is.

If this game wasn't on GamePass, the ratio would in best case scenario reach maybe 90/10.

1. Playstation install base is more than double (almost triple of Xbox).
2. Xbox gamers don't tend to spend as much money on games
3. Jrpgs are still way more popular on the Playstation consoles than on Xbox.
