PlayStation history timeline website opened; PS2 sales top 160 million

Sony Interactive Entertainment has opened a PlayStation history timeline website in celebration of the console’s 30th anniversary approaching on December 3, featuring various information and statistics spanning each generation of PlayStation.

I have been a die hard SEGA fan. I had Saturn but quickly realized the PS1 was the superior console. I got one in 96, quite late but never left the brand since..
Saturn had its strengths it had the better controller for me and it’s the best place to play fighting games but from 97 the PS really destroyed it with super high quality software. EVERY genre was represented.. was just too good to be true. Then DualShock arrived in I think 98 and show was over..

I did as well, after looking at their comment history. I thought I was old for this site but I'll be alive in 30 years unless the average lifespan dramatically decreases, which is around 80 here, I should have another 10 or so if my family is anything to go by.

I hit the big 'Five O' next year dude, like you i got in on Playstation early and have enjoyed their products ever since. I remember seeing Resident Evil at a mates house and having my mind blown (i was still gaming on my beloved Amiga at that time I think). I went out and bought a PS1 within a few days.

I hope I am around in 30 years time dude, I got a hell of a backlog!!!

30 years. That's a long time. I remember my first game as Crash Bandicoot. My previous console before that was Megadrive (Genesis)

I also had a megadrive (genesis) prior to owning the ps1. I remember being blown away by mortal kombat 1 and 2. Great times.

Happy memories of meeting at a pals house, giving Tekken 2 a blast then hitting the clubs before getting back to my mates for some Wipeout 2097, Playstation just seemed so cool and did so much to bring gaming into mainstream acceptance.

The real story here is that Sony have suddenly added 5m units to the PS2 total just to spoil the party for Switch breaking the record.

So,in 1986 I bought a NES . Around 1991 I bought a SEGA Genesis and played at least over a 1000 hours EA NHL Hockey 92 to 95 and a lot of platformers . So in 1995 I was looking to buy a Sega Saturn . So I got to try playing games on a Saturn because my friend bought one . I felt from playing a few games, that Sega Saturn was going more in the Arcade direction with their games. So I did not buy the Sega Saturn. Then i got a call from another friend in December in 1995 and he told me he bought a Playstation and was enjoying playing a 3D fighting game . After that call , I thought to myself, Sony is a great entertainment company and I have a feeling that most 3rd party developers are going to want to make video games for Sony PlayStation. Then I bought one in December 1995 and the first single player campaign I completed was Playstation DOOM. Since then all of my gaming has been on Playstation 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 and sometime in the spring of next year I will buy a PS5 Pro . So basically, i bought a Playstation not for the 1st party games , it is because I thought Playstation will have the most quality games to play .

First game I ever got was Speed Freaks. Played the hell out of it almost everyday and never got tired. That childhood memory is one I'll never forget.

I got a PS1 towards the end of its gen. First games were Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 3 and Silent Hill. The rest is history 😎

I remember when PlayStation one launched. I was in Hawaii on the Island of Oahu and went to the Navy exchange to see a demo. I was blown away by it. I couldn’t afford it a the time but my friend was able to and we had one hell of a time playing it.

On a side note I had another friend who worked at software ect. (Later to become GameStop) and they were allowed to take games home so they could tell customers about the games. He would borrow one go home and rip it on his computer then take it back. Had a whole library of PS games and didn’t have a PlayStation.
