I've had a PS4 Pro since launch and it was absolutely awesome. I loved it. I've also got the PS5 Pro and guess what? It's awesome too.

Cacabunga167d ago

PS4 Pro made sense!!! Made 4K gaming possible, enhanced computing power for PSVR, had 1GB dedicated memory for UI and of course the constant flow of all the amazing 1st party titles helped.

I still have it and still using it to this day!

Einhander1972167d ago

@Cacabunga

"PS4 Pro made sense!!! Made 4K gaming possible"

PS5 Pro actually has 4k that often looks even better than native when PSSR is used unlike PS4 Pro which had checkerboard but often made the image more blurry.

"enhanced computing power for PSVR"

PS5 Pro offers the same type of improvement for both PSVR and PSVR 2.

"had 1GB dedicated memory for UI"

PS5 Pro has an additional 2GB.

"and of course the constant flow of all the amazing 1st party titles helped"

PS5 Pro has more than double (almost 3x) the number of supported games at launch. And of course every first party will support it going forward and the list of third party support is already better than PS4 Pro.

Cacabunga167d ago

Nothing nowadays comes close to Days Gone, God of War and Uncharted 4.
3x supported games at launch?
I played and already finished most of them.

Einhander1972167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

The PS5 Pro is awesome, it's doing exactly what was expected and more. It's playing games 30 fps quality modes at 60 fps, adding RT to games that didn't have it, improving the RT of games that already had it, and even using the AI to enhance some games without even needing an update.

And the Pro has just released, it's only going to get better. I can't wait to see what games fully made for the console can do.

In your link, Richard Leadbetter has a fair point here.

While the PS4 Pro did introduce checkerboard rendering, 60fps and 4K to some degree, I really find PS5 Pro's impact much more refined and well-thought out.

Sure, the PS5 Pro is logically much more powerful than PS4 Pro, but I also feel like it's doing its job much better for what it wants to be.

And bear in mind that this is only the beginning and early results.

I think the PS5 Pro will spread the word and be doing just fine.

MDTunkown167d ago

Ps4 pro also introduced sata3 support so you could use ssd and loading times were noticeably shorter than on base console.

But things that folks don’t mention about ps5 pro is that it actually improves ps4 games by a lot with it dlss. PS4 gta4 looks much more sharper and colourful on ps5 pro

kryteris167d ago

checkerboard rendering was available on the ps4 basic and caught on when siege released as they came up with it.

fr0sty167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

PS4 Pro was more powerful on paper, being that it was literally the same GPU in PS4 doubled... but PS5 Pro introduces features that the base PS5 just isn't capable of, such as high quality ray tracing, 8k, and AI upscaling. So, PS4 pro did increase the raw power more, but in doing so it didn't enable any new features that you simply couldn't do on the base model.

fr0sty167d ago

Another thing PS4 Pro failed to deliver, 60fps on most games. PS5 Pro is already hitting that target.

I gave my PS5 to my nephew months ago. Thinking of grabbing the Pro just so I'll have one.

CornholioX167d ago

I believe it's awesome. PS4 Pro was like a small expectation how the PS5 is gonna do. Now a small expectation with PS5 Pro how the PS6 is gonna be.

InUrFoxHole167d ago

Which do you feel offers more than the standard counter part?

TheNamelessOne167d ago

I also own a PS4 Pro. I loved it. An amazing console, for what it is.
Didn't buy a PS5. Didn't double-dip and get a PS5 Pro.

I feel bad for console only owners going forward. Your tribalism is taking affect.

it should have been a replacement console instead of some upgrade which would have dropped the price being sole option.

GamerRN167d ago

Honestly, I've been using it a few days now, and I don't see much difference in any games that I play. Very subtle differences, and small resolution boosts.

HellDivers 2 felt no different, maybe slightly more stable in frame rate mode...

bartfart167d ago

Have you played any games with a pro patch? The difference is very noticable

TheKingKratos166d ago

You are probably the most honest Pro owner on this site now

They hype that thing to hell and back saying shit like Night and Day and Massive difference etc

When in reality it's exactly like you said.

TheTony316167d ago

The PS4 Pro was a bigger leap in raw performance but the PS5 Pro feels like a bigger leap overall thanks to PSSR and RT. Being able to get a near 4k image at 60 fps and even RT on a console is amazing.

At this point Sony is just offering a product better than a PC for the price.

Michiel1989167d ago

been happening since ps1 days but ok

anast167d ago

No longer competing with the Saturn, N64, 3DO, or Xbox: just Sony and MS Windows now.

Michiel1989167d ago

sony is competing with an operating system? Windows doesn't earn anything from gaming.

what do the 3DO, n64 and saturn have to do with getting more bang for your buck than a pc with a sony console which has been the case since ps1?

Shiore2u167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

Oh it's an absolute steal, so long as you have the convenience of a pre-existing head trauma to overlook long term costs with paying a middle man too much for games and to access your own internet you're already paying someone else to use. Don't forget to get the optical drive attachment to keep playing games you already bought, "play has no limits", I guess, unless you bought physical this whole time and want this thing, then it does? Forget about making your investment back, don't think just consume cause product.

anast167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

Or you could pay $700 for a PC that will barely run Skyrim...there's a trade off for everything.

My PC for work has already paid for itself within weeks, but gaming PCs are like boats, they look cool, but not worth the upkeep.

Are you being dumb on purpose, is this all just a really bad attempt to troll?

StormSnooper167d ago (Edited 167d ago )

But you literally have to dish out huge sums to keep up with the newest PC parts and even then wouldn’t have the type of quality you get in consoles. Shot I love PC gaming, when I have a proper PC, but let’s be honest here, the electricity cost alone for a PC is outrageous. At least in my neck of the woods.
