It’s definitely a sale for the dev studio. Do you really think MS isn’t cutting the devs a nice check to put it on GP? The devs most likely estimate how many copies it would sell on Xbox then charges MS that amount. This is speculation of course but it makes sense to do it this way.

It's not a sale true, but Microsoft subsidise it. Either by an upfront payment or a per-download payment.

Developers needs to weigh up whether the additional exposure and upfront payment is worth it. From what we've learned so far, the service seems to /generally/ be good for indie devs but not so great for AAA games.

And that seems to be reflected by the games coming out over the last year. When was the last big third party AAA game to launchon Game Pass? From memory, it was Outsiders (could be wrong, I don't really follow it)

This is partly because Gamepass is stuck at 20-25m users with no sign of growth. That's a great number for games like this where if you can get 1/5 to play it, it's way more than what would normally "buy" it. But it isn't enough to it to be economically sustainable moving forward.

Anyway, back on topic - this game looks amazing to me. I'll be buying on PS5 and I hope the devs can go from strength to strength. They have potential to be big players over the next decade.
