Bloober Team Has To Give Its Due Competition To Capcom Now With More Silent Hill Remakes

The Silent Hill 2 remake is beyond player expectations, so the question now is: When's the next one coming?

FTLmaster248d ago

Honestly, I'd be super happy with SH3 and SH4. But I actually think Homecoming would make for a solid remake as well. It was actually pretty ahead of its time as it's possibly the game that feels closest to SH2 remake, outside of SH2.

SimpleSlave248d ago

Silent Hill 1, for fudge sake. This weird jump was bad enough but now we'll just ignore the best game in the series and the one that started it all? Not even Capcom did that. In fact, Resi 1 Remake is the best Resident Evil game ever. That's how good Capcom treated that classic.

Do the Silent Hill 1 next. And after? Whatever.

Wasn't Shattered Memories a remake of SH1?

SimpleSlave248d ago

It was not a remake but a reimagination instead. I think the only thing it retained from Silent Hill 1 was the premise of Harry Mason trying to find his daughter, but most everything else is different.

I get where you're coming from but it's not weird. SH2 is self contained in a way with minor references to the others. Only the Rebirth-ending and some of the paintings are a nod to the cult. Also, they reused the dead guys model from the apartments in OG SH2 in 3. 1 and 3 are closely connected through story so it makes sense they made 2 first. AS for RE, I agree with you that RE1 remake is the best RE game by a mile. One of the best games ever in fact! OG RE2 is a close second in my opinion.

There's also a couple of other factors. SH2 has gained a reputation throughout the years and maybe even more importantly the upcoming movie is based on 2.

The movie will suck, that's a given, but this whole Silent Hill revival supposedly started because the director approached Konami with ideas for a movie based on 2. It kinda makes sense to then do a remake as well. Atleast I think that was part of the idea.

They don’t have to but they should as it’s a money maker in the waiting.

JEECE248d ago

Do we know yet whether this one made a ton of money? Steam concurrents only got up to about 24k, which isn't terrible, but it's far from a hit on there. And while I'd expect sales of this game to skew more heavily to PlayStation, the PS5 sales will probably need to be pretty considerable to balance out what look to be low PC sales.

P_Bomb248d ago

It debuted at #2 in the UK iirc.

jznrpg247d ago

Silent Hill is really popular on PlayStation. I’m sure it is selling well PS. Steam isn’t everything

JEECE247d ago

@jznrpg

You are right that Steam numbers aren't everything, but they are the only data that is always publicly available that can be used to compare numbers from one game to the next. Obviously we get charts from certain regions, and those can be helpful, but they are imperfect. A game can launch in a slow week and be #1 while a different game that launches in a bigger week can sell more units but only come in at #3 due to heavier competition. Same thing with monthly charts: a game that launches at the end of a month will get its biggest weeks of sales split between two months, so it might only be #3 in one and #5 in the next when it would have been #1 had it been launched early in a month.

I'll be interested to see the PSN charts through the rest of the year, together with the Circana charts for October. If SH2 ranks high in October on both, and stays high on the PSN charts through the end of the year, I'll be pretty confident it did well on PS5.

The first needs a remake the most, its the best of them all imo but imagine how transormative a remake at this level of an old ps1 game would be, i really do hope they bring the OG back in a blaze of glory.

I kind of wish they did. Like I’d love if they could take him and what was established and crank the scares up to 11 with him.

Silent Hill 1 first!
I think they should give castlevania and mgs rising to platinum games

RaidenBlack115d ago

Or a new original Silent Hill entry and then the Silent Hill 1 Remake?
you know going alternatively ... by that we get both new entries as well as remakes

Terry_B115d ago (Edited 115d ago )

A remake of the first Silent Hill would be great. Let a team take Castlevania that is known for experiences with either Metroidvania games or 3D Combat.

I think they still have a good relationship with Mercury Steam... I quite enjoyed their Lord of Shadows games in the franchise. They would be a good one to take on the next CV game as they have the experience you mentioned.

Terry_B115d ago

I think Mercury Steam is actually working on another Metroid game right now :-)

RaidenBlack115d ago

MercurySteam is working on their own ARPG project, to be revealed soon.

VersusDMC115d ago

Either remake Silent hill 1, 3 or a new silent hill game would be great. After Silent Hill 2 (third favorite game last year) i trust that studio now and am anticipating Cronos: The New Dawn.

Please make SH1 remake.. Not SH3...
