Why is it ridiculous though? The ps5 is more advanced in its parts than the ps4 was. A mobile outdated cpu, standard hdd. Vs modern desktop cpu downsized, and a bespoke customized io/ ssd solution. Harder to price down newer parts and even harder for customized parts.

I have no issues with that. I paid £620 for a rtx 3080 a few years ago and it wasn't even the top of the line GPU .

I currently own a £1200 phone (galaxy 24 ultra). I paid nearly £1000 for my oled TV 2 years ago. I paid £750 for a laptop with a rtx 4060 a few months ago.

So yer.....paying £700 for a decently speced game console is not a issue. I think it's people like your self who needs to be prepared to quit gaming as a hobby as it's only going to get more expensive weather you go console route or pc route.

I do agree that the PS4 Pro was an easier sell with 4K tech becoming more mainstream and that it made more sense with the abundance of 1st party titles at this point last gen. However, I couldn’t land a PS4 at launch, but was able to get a launch PS4 Pro with ease. The PS5 Pro may easily still follow the same trend.

Moreover, many consumers not being able to purchase a launch base PS5 for approximately 2 years is the outlier not the norm due to the chip shortage caused by the pandemic. This led to many believing that a day 1 sell out should be the norm for any Sony console when the fact is mid-gen console upgrades have historically not sold out in pre-orders.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that the PS5 Pro will not end up with an 80/20 split with the base PS5 just like the PS4/PS4 Pro did.

I fully agree with Ocelot07..but… there is also a choise to speed down the chase for being most powerfull and «modern». If the chase keeps bumping the price up because it naturally costs more now than before, then suddenly average joe cant afford it anymore. I wonder if we have reached that point now. From what i can observe, people struggles more now to keep up with the prices and how fast it releases. Phones, tablets, consoles, tvs etc.. people start hanging on to their products for longer now, and cant buy the best because it costs so much.

It isn't about defending the shitty price, it is acknowledging what I do with my free time which is mostly play my PS5. I'm well into my career, and have a disposable income. Top of the line gaming PCs and high-end gaming consoles really are not that expensive compared to how much my peers are spending on their hobbies and on travel.

One point I would make. This generation of gamers are a bit entitled. If all of the Pro’s were 30th edition, all of them would have sold out at $1000. The pro isn’t a target for casual gamers. Selling a $700 console in a bad economy isn't the smartest idea in the world.

I can't justify the PS5 Pro for a few reasons.

1.) You'll only be playing the Pro for maybe an extra 2-3 years before the PS6 releases.
(Might as well wait and save up for the PS6.)

2.) There's not going to be many games that take advantage of the new specs outside of 1st party titles.
(2nd/3rd party developers create games at the lowest common denominator to run on multiple platforms.)

3.) Not many exclusives releasing currently to show off the new console.

I'm just going to wait for the PS6.

You can build a PC with a Ryzen 7 5800X, 32GBs of DDR4, 2TB NVME, RTX 4060 (which is a 15TFlop GPU like PS5 Pro has) for around £700, Sony could easily have gotten those specs for around £499, with manufacturing and shipping included, so a profit of £50 per unit would have meant a price no higher £549 for the digital, maybe £599 for a disc version.
A 1TB model could have been sold for £50 less easily if not £100.

Not particularly surprising, the PS5 Pro is very much for the enthusiasts rather than the average consumer. I love gaming but £700 for a mid gen upgrade is bit steep and hard to justify.
Personally I've been debating getting one but 1. the current default PS5 I have works just fine for what I want it for and 2. The PS6 isn't sounding that far off so is dropping the cash now really worth it

The regular PS5 was already a difficult sell to many who are still on PS4 who are mostly still playing the games which are/were still releasing for that system, like Call of Duty and ‘FIFA’.

For now, there seems very little reason to ‘upgrade’ to a Pro. When they did the presentation and were pointing out these big ‘improvements’ in the background of Spider-Man 2 and Ratchet & Clank and such, I think I wasn’t the only one having a hard time really spotting these big difference. Of course it!s better and more powerful, but is it really such a big difference for it to warrant spending so much more money on that ‘Pro’ model!? For some gamers/fans; sure. For me personally, I think I can easily skip the pro and just hold out till the PS6, although I’m not sure if I’d be interested in that if once again they leave out base-components like the disc-drive.
