PS5 Pro Still Hasn’t Sold Out in the US and UK

PS5 Pro still hasn’t sold out in the US and UK, even with pre-orders open since September 26, surprising many who expected quicker sellouts.

GamerRN209d ago

I think it's indicative of what happens in a consumers mind when the price increase percentage outweighs the technology increase percentage...

Sonic1881209d ago

There's not enough new exclusive games either

GamerRN208d ago

There won't be "exclusives" to just the Pro. It's a Mid Gen Refresh, it just gets upgrades.

I think the small step isn't terrible, but it's the huge cost increase that is. I still got my pre-order in though... 🫣

FinalFantasyFanatic208d ago

I just think the Pro is not good value, didn't even include a stand or some other collectables.

GamerRN208d ago

I agree the value sucks, but I still want one and bought one... I'm the early adopter type.

savedsynner208d ago

THIS! I have no doubt the ps5 pro is a nice piece of hardware, but $700 worth it is not, especially with the rumored PS6 coming in 2026.

I've been a PS guy since literally the PS1, but I really with Xbox would get their crap together and present a credible challenge.

Fonsecap208d ago

This is what happens when the scalper is the manufacturer itself.

Eonjay208d ago

The PS4 Pro didn't sell out either... what are the actual expectations here?

90sGamingWasBetter208d ago

The actual expectations are as Sony said, they hope to sell around 10 to 12 million units by the end of the generation. This is just more pointless click bait nonsense.

Unknown_Gamer5794208d ago

Sony decided to provide us with the scalper price experience without the middle man.

Neonridr209d ago

the PS4 Pro never sold out either, I wouldn't expect an optional device with that price tag to fully sell out with a healthy supply (excluding the limited 30th variant)

CS7209d ago (Edited 209d ago )

PS4 Pro was a reasonably priced, relevant product for the market and time in the console generation.

PS5 Pro at $700 is ridiculous.

To all those who are defending it, I hope you’re ready to put out $700 (or more) for PS6

crazyCoconuts209d ago

The way inflation has been going that's the reality whether we defend it or not.

mkis007209d ago

Why is it ridiculous though? The ps5 is more advanced in its parts than the ps4 was. A mobile outdated cpu, standard hdd. Vs modern desktop cpu downsized, and a bespoke customized io/ ssd solution. Harder to price down newer parts and even harder for customized parts.

ocelot07209d ago

I have no issues with that. I paid £620 for a rtx 3080 a few years ago and it wasn't even the top of the line GPU .

I currently own a £1200 phone (galaxy 24 ultra). I paid nearly £1000 for my oled TV 2 years ago. I paid £750 for a laptop with a rtx 4060 a few months ago.

So yer.....paying £700 for a decently speced game console is not a issue. I think it's people like your self who needs to be prepared to quit gaming as a hobby as it's only going to get more expensive weather you go console route or pc route.

Popsicle209d ago (Edited 209d ago )

I do agree that the PS4 Pro was an easier sell with 4K tech becoming more mainstream and that it made more sense with the abundance of 1st party titles at this point last gen. However, I couldn’t land a PS4 at launch, but was able to get a launch PS4 Pro with ease. The PS5 Pro may easily still follow the same trend.

Moreover, many consumers not being able to purchase a launch base PS5 for approximately 2 years is the outlier not the norm due to the chip shortage caused by the pandemic. This led to many believing that a day 1 sell out should be the norm for any Sony console when the fact is mid-gen console upgrades have historically not sold out in pre-orders.

There is currently no evidence to suggest that the PS5 Pro will not end up with an 80/20 split with the base PS5 just like the PS4/PS4 Pro did.

gammaray13209d ago

yeah, and with saying that i bet you're the first in line for a new mobile phone every year

cbuc1125209d ago

Well if PS6 is a game changer and on the cutting edge, I am ready to pay the $700...yes. Digital Foundry says F1 24 running at 8K60 is a generational leap.

Retro1986209d ago (Edited 209d ago )

I fully agree with Ocelot07..but… there is also a choise to speed down the chase for being most powerfull and «modern». If the chase keeps bumping the price up because it naturally costs more now than before, then suddenly average joe cant afford it anymore. I wonder if we have reached that point now. From what i can observe, people struggles more now to keep up with the prices and how fast it releases. Phones, tablets, consoles, tvs etc.. people start hanging on to their products for longer now, and cant buy the best because it costs so much.

generic-user-name208d ago

"PS4 Pro was a reasonably priced, relevant product for the market and time in the console generation."

Ok, but he's saying the PS4 Pro DIDN'T sell out.

CornholioX208d ago

I will, thanks for the info.

Sarcasm208d ago

And the RTX 5090 is probably going to be $1999 and translate down the stack

5080 $1499
5070 $999
5060 Ti $699

If you are complaining about the PS5 Pro pricing, then keep that same energy to all electronics including gaming PC components

Smellsforfree208d ago

It isn't about defending the shitty price, it is acknowledging what I do with my free time which is mostly play my PS5. I'm well into my career, and have a disposable income. Top of the line gaming PCs and high-end gaming consoles really are not that expensive compared to how much my peers are spending on their hobbies and on travel.

Vits209d ago

I mean, that is kind of the point. The PS4 Pro, in absolute numbers, sold around the same number of units as the Wii U, but it was a well-priced console with an amazing value proposition. So hopefully the PS5 Pro wil move even less, given how low it's value propostion is when compared to it's older brother.

Neonridr208d ago

it'll sell to the diehards and possibly to those who haven't made the jump to the PS5 yet. But I think a lot of current PS5 owners are going to skip it based on just exactly what you are getting for your money here. The base PS5 is still doing a fantastic job with most games.

I wasn't planning on getting a Pro, but I lucked out and got a 30th anniversary one.

BLow208d ago

Exactly. I feel like we are living in a different universe. People have short memories or something. The PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X didn't sell out either.

THEY WERE OPTIONAL. No one forces you to buy it. The same arguments we see now, we the same arguments we seen back then. Now people are just talking about the price. Everyone wants Avatar graphics but don't want to pay for it.

Everyone wants 60fps, ray tracing, with all the bells and whistles but don't want to pay for it. Yet no one bats an eye with these graphics card prices when the newest card is just 20 to 30% faster than the previous one and cost $1500 or more.

Then we have people on here building these thrift store PCs saying they are equivalent to a PS5 Pro. Give me a break. Oh and apparently you can build a PC too with only the RAM from the video card. No system memory needed. I want to see a build that matches the Pro with every single thing if offers down to the USB- C ports and WiFi 7.

Didn't DF say the graphics chip in it is equivalent to a 4070? Did I hear that right? Let's start from there. How much does that cost alone?

GamerRN208d ago

You are also wrong. Another quick search of Google or Chat GP shows that the initial run off Xbox One X sold out, and the Project Scorpio edition sold out Very Fast, similar you the very very very small run of Pro 30th Anniversary Edition.

This might be the first Sony or Microsoft console that didn't sell out initially...

GamerRN208d ago

A simple search on Chat GP or Google will show you that the initial run off PS4 Pros "sold out quickly". I remember barely getting my pre-order in. So honestly, this comment above is fake news.

Neonridr208d ago

PS4 Pro's were readily available, the only ones that sold out were limited edition variants. I know because I had a regular PS4 Pro and upgraded to a 500 million edition Pro when they came out after.

GamerRN208d ago

I wish I could post screen shots so I can show you that the PS4 Pro sold out in hours in most places, and days in a few other regions... So please, do your research.

stoney101208d ago

Lol at using Chat GPT as your source while telling other people to go do research. Guess what I can use Chat GPT and get it to tell me the PS4 Pro didn't in fact sell out everywhere...

'Overall, while the PS4 Pro did sell well and was popular among many gamers, various factors contributed to it not selling out everywhere at launch.'

darthv72209d ago

no idea why people feel it HAS to sell out. i mean this isnt the release of the PS5, where chip shortages were a thing. This is something that is going to be readily available even on launch day. it is not a limited edition... the 30th anniversary one, yeah that sold out in minutes while the other 30th anniversary accessories sold out a little while later.

Dont succumb to the FOMO as there is nothing to miss out over this.

Christopher209d ago

If it doesn't sell out, it's a failure. This is why every digital game is a failure. Just spitting facts here, darthv72. /s

GotGame818208d ago

Well, with that logic, get ready to shell out even more cash for a disk drive. Otherwise it's digital only.

GamerRN208d ago (Edited 208d ago )

I mean, every console from Microsoft and Sony sold out there first run initially in the US except PS3 and Xbox One... Soooooo there is that to think about.

Eonjay208d ago

@GamerRN

Actually the PS4 Pro DID NOT sell out. And the PS3 was notoriously sold out.

Gamist2dot0209d ago

I think it will sell out if GTA 6 runs 60fps even at 1080p on it.

GamerRN209d ago

If you think GTA 6 will hit 60fps on the Pro, well... I hope you aren't banking on it.

I ordered my Pro just because I'm a tech nerd and love having the best there is. If I can get a good HellDivers 2 res increase with a steadier frame rate, I'll be happy. But 60fps GTA 6? Dream land...

jaymacx208d ago

One point I would make. This generation of gamers are a bit entitled. If all of the Pro’s were 30th edition, all of them would have sold out at $1000. The pro isn’t a target for casual gamers. It is mainly for enthusiasts. The pro seems “mid” to anyone not getting what they wanted (30th anniversary).

Obscure_Observer209d ago

Good.

I hope it send a clear message for consoles publishers/manufactures that most gamers won´t just accept and pay for anything they throw at us for any price.

Lightning77209d ago

Riiight but if MS released a Pro you would be ALL over it.

I'm shuttin down your lies real quick.

darthv72209d ago

...they did. It is called Series X.

Aloymetal209d ago

100% If xbox had a Pro, him and Phil would be calling it ''The most powerful beast in interstellar universe'' including Mann's planet, Edmunds and even black hole Gargantua lmao.

JEECE209d ago

Lol I'm sure we'd start hearing about teraflops again.

Obscure_Observer208d ago (Edited 208d ago )

"I'm shuttin down your lies real quick."

Based on what, exactly? Bring any proof that I was all over the Xbox One S, Xbox Series S or even MS´s latest scam, the $600 All-Digital Xbox Series X!

Go ahead I will wait.

I paid $500 for my Xbox One X because it bought a massive improvement over my original Xbox One console.

So no way in hell I would pay $700 for a "Series X Pro" to get marginal upgrades over my Series X. Same way most baseline PS5 owners feel about the PS5 Pro at the moment.

FYI, whenever MS decides and release their next gen Xbox console featuring 45% GPU increase and 10% CPU increase over my Series X while charging $700 for it, will be a NO BUY for me! Period!

Einhander1972209d ago

It's a better deal than a $600 series x...

209d ago
GamerRN209d ago

Is it better than a $500 Series X? Or a $450 Series X as they often are on sale?

I'm a big fan of the mentality that, value wise, the Pro is a terrible device. But, if you simply want the best available at any cost, it's about to be the most powerful console system available.

Gamingsince1981209d ago

@gamerRN

It's better than a series x at $200 imo, buying into xbox now is like buying into Windows phones now or a zune.

Obscure_Observer208d ago

"It's a better deal than a $600 series x..."

No really a hard feat to accomplish. That console is a total scam!

Elda209d ago

If MS were introducing a XB Series Pro you would be the first in line to obtain one even if it cost $1,000, let alone being a spokesperson for it saying how amazing it is...lol!

GamerRN208d ago

I would absolutely buy one, and I would also agree $1000 is way too much, but I would be happy to grab one for myself because I can...

Same with the Pro.

Bathyj209d ago

Haha
You've literally been accepting anything for over a decade.

Nice to see you again on your real account BTW

Gamingsince1981209d ago

He's the same guy that would defend kinect with that creepy Milo demo, what do you expect from him.

I assume making all those alt accounts got him down.

trez1082208d ago

The ps4 pro wasn’t for “ most gamers” and also didn’t sell out. Ps5pro is and probably will be no different so what’s this clear message you’re talking about?

shaenoide208d ago

This product isn't made for "most gamers" though. Quite the opposite actually.

Lightning77208d ago

The proof is you getting all uppity whenever Xbox releases a new console or model. If MS had a pro console I can see you over hyping it. I just look at patterns in behavior and that definitely seems like your style.

Obscure_Observer208d ago

"I just look at patterns in behavior and that definitely seems like your style."

Rubbish. Smdh.

You always talk out of your a$$ without bringing any evidence or proof whatsoever.

So yeah, I knew you were into some of your usual lying and made up bs yet again. Well, better luck next time.

Lightning77208d ago (Edited 208d ago )

Lying!? So your telling me you don't get all excited and go yay Xbox with the power! Or something along those lines or cheerlead everyday they do. So you're saying I'm seeing things and you never ever do that. So we're just gonna sit and play stupid.... Don't go there obscure don't do it...
