Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus Review [Capsule Computers]

Travis of Capsule Computers writes:

"When it comes to Kazutaka Kodaka’s works, fans have adored the Danganronpa franchise and have been hoping to see this same manic magic captured again in some way. Since the Danganronpa series appears to have come to an end, things have been a bit hit and miss with the popular writer and director. Kazutaka managed to make a successful return to his roots with plenty of mysteries to solve in Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE when it arrived last year as a Switch exclusive and now Spike Chunsoft is making sure that everyone has a chance to see what this title has to offer in the form of an enhanced multiplatform release. Containing all of the previous DLC and other upgrades, does Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus manage to keep players on the edge with its mysteries?"

I loved the first 2 Danganronpa games. For some reason I didn’t get very far in the third. I’ll grab this for sure

Spike Chunsoft’s Standout Year

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Over the years, I've been lucky enough to cover the work of many different developers and publishers, from all over the globe. In some cases, after I’ve played several titles in a row from a specific game maker, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the studio's portfolio and a better understanding of its design philosophy and trajectory. I’ve also noticed if a company is spinning its wheels or firing on all cylinders. In the case of publisher Spike Chunsoft, in the year 2024, the latter is very much the case. Over the last 12 months, I was fortunate to review four of its games — two of which I regard as GOTY contenders and the other two of which I consider tantalizingly close to greatness."

Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Plus (PS5) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "In terms of murder mysteries, it doesn't get much better than Master Detective Archives: Rain Code Plus. The setting is fascinating, the story provocative, the characters full of personality, and the game world dripping (literally) in atmosphere. The only area where it stumbles is gameplay, which, unfortunately, is the most important area. Still, even when the action is straightforward or undemanding, the game finds narrative and audiovisual ways to paper over the cracks. Fans of Danganronpa and of adventure games & visual novels in general should love it, regardless of any faults. You don't need to be a Master Detective to see that."

Review - Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE+ (PS5) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Fernando da Costa: "Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE+ is phenomenal on the PS5. I tinkered with it on the PS Portal and having that portability with the raw power of this behemoth of a console made for a pleasure like I’ve never felt before. Moreover, this is Danganronpa, but with the various mechanics jumbled. The spirit of the trilogy is intact and it’s potent. You’d actually have to be blind not to see it. There are faults to it, of course, but nothing that derailed my session. I never felt like jumping ship. People might feel the fan-service is grotesque and the plot is too long-winded and to that, I reiterate that RAIN CODE is for a specific niche and it nails it."

I loved e first Danganronpa games so I’ll get this for sure. The problem is time to play all of the games that have released lately. This will be perfect for the Portal though so maybe I can squeeze it in
