Sony & Guerrilla Games recently announced Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and if you're wondering how it compares to the original, read ahead.
Playstation writes: "Starting with tomorrow’s release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for PC, we’re working to add more benefits to playing with an account for PlayStation Network. The Last of Us Part II Remastered (coming April 3, 2025), in addition to God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, will all soon be adding in-game content unlocks for PlayStation Network account users.
An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC. Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management."
VGChartz's Taneli Palola: "We're living in the era of remasters today, with seemingly every even remotely relevant title of yesteryear getting its second - or sometimes third - turn at the spotlight. Yet, many of these returning names end up back right where they came from, lost and forgotten amidst a sea of other remasters, remakes, and reimaginings. Not the case with these four titles, which were given a new lease on life in 2024, and made the most of that opportunity."
Guerrilla Games' custom upscaling technology is one of the most impressive Digital Foundry has seen running on consoles.
There's obviously some work done with character models and foliage but I thought the original looked better in a lot of scenes.
7.22 for how they changed her face.

Kinda liking the original in some scenes
IMHO, they shouldn't have remastered it and kept the original's style ... it has its own unique charm ... the first game was not build with the new lighting system in mind.
For PC players, since Nixxes is handling this time, the upgrade might be worth it purely from performance pov.
Looks great in many places & imho the original maintains its charm & still holds up, I’ll gladly play HZD remaster on base PS5 over HFW on the pro.
Now that $10 upgrade cost for owners of the original is the right way to do it.
It’s also the ultimate proof TLoU part 1 was never worth $70. Whoever bought it at that price that owned the original got scammed.
Remember, fooling someone is easy, what’s incredibly hard is for them to accept they’ve been fooled.
looks great!
