In Ghost of Yotei, Atsu is said to have more control over her story compared to Tsushima, and the tale is about "underdog vengeance."

I'm all in day one. I knew this game will either release next year or 2026 at the latest. Depending on when they announce the game at yesterday's event or VGA's as the last stop.

I'm suspecting spring maybe June 2025 to drop.

Not gonna lie. I'm pretty bummed about no Jin, seems like a missed opportunity to expand on the cliffhanger ending from the first game with the shogunate now hunting Jin, which would have been an interesting perspective to cover for his character trying to rationalize protecting not only his people, but fighting them as well, all while the second mongol invasion occurring only seven years later from the setting of the first game.

Hopefully they come back to him again.

Perhaps. The second invasion did occur in Kyushu, Japan. They've already covered Iki in the DLC for the first game. Hopefully this means this game could be a 'break' of sorts to build upon, and learn from both narratively and game design wise with trying new things, much like some of their standalone sequels in the Infamous series, and they're saving "Ghost of Kyushu" for later when they feel comfortable enough to approach it taking what they've learned from this.

Obviously this game will be great and I’ll probably platinum it like the first game but it’s sad that we won’t get to see Jin defending Japan from the second Mongol invasion while evading the Shogun trying to hunt him down.

To be honest, I’m just more mad people suddenly coming out and saying there was no way Jins story could continue, that his story was 100% done and there wasn’t anything else to do with him.

Look if you don’t mind the fact they’ve moved away from him or just didn’t like him in general then that’s completely fine, no issues here however let’s not try and defend the decision by lying that his story was wrapped up when it clearly wasn’t.

They talked about spin offs and the like so I’m hoping we get a direct sequel with Jin in the future. Maybe they are spacing their stories out because they don’t want people saying it looks too similar to the first game like what people did with Horizon Forbidden West.

Not that are as big as the story already told with him. The second mongol invasion was mostly naval-focused and not as successful. Then there's the earthquake. Genko War would be way to late for Jin to be involved in.

Now, if you want him to just be involved in 'general things happen that aren't notable in time' sure, there's always a ton of avenues. But I don't think there are any that are notable for representation unless you completely ignore history and start entirely creating your own.

But while the story in Tsushima is historical and respected it still took a lot of liberties to create their own personal story within it. If the story was 100% accurate then you wouldn't have gotten the story we got.

The second invasion / Battle of Kōan still had some mongols who made it to shore but were defeated, who's to say Jin wasn't the one to help fend them off using his Ghost tactics so it was a sure fire win for Japan? Who's to say the Second Invasion can't be a backdrop setting that intertwines with another story Jin is facing while also featuring him evading the Shogun and possibly his Uncle (if we go by that ending) who has been given a chance to regain his honour by finding his nephew.

The mongols also retreated to Hirado Island so I could totally see a mission of Jin heading to the island to finish them off or disrupt them even more.

If the events in the first game didn't go 100% by the history books then I don't know people are suddenly saying the sequel would have had to if they did the Second Invasion.

In Halo 2 they surprised us by having half the campaign dedicated to the Arbiter with no hints of that leading up to launch.

Super Mario Bros titles have an ensemble of playable characters, there are more of those titles than titles that keep you as only Mario.

as with most things in life, and art, there is more than one way to skin a cat. Creating characters is always a risk for a variety of reasons. However there is room for both characters who receive a series/sequels, and IPs that introduce a new MC in each iteration.

While I liked Jin Sakai I do like that they're moving in a new direction with their next game.

The protagonist is voiced by Erika Ishii who is an extreme activist for gender and sexuality. Im sure she’s thrilled to have her influence on this massive game. And Sucker Punch is proud of this.
