Maxim: Killzone 2 Review

Everything Playstation: A Gametrailers forum poster by the name of GooseGoose has released some photos of the upcoming Playstation exclusive. Killzone 2 was not the only game to get a medicore review. Street Fighter IV recieved an even lower score of 6/10. Suprisingly, the new 50 Cent game scored better than both with an 8/10. Maxim reviewing these 2 games don't really say much but it is sure interesting.

I'll stick to gaming websites and gaming magazines for reviews.

Like I said one time before, I expect most major gaming websites (Gamespot, IGN, Gametrailers, etc...) to give Killzone 2 a 8.5 or higher.

The 6/10 score that some website gave Metal Gear Solid 4 from some "Gamer Girl" website didn't damage it and this will not damage Killzone 2.

Lost odyssey average a 78 and is considered a flop by PS3 only fans, So I can't imagine a game getting an 80....remember, when that article came out I think it was like one of the first reviews..

I can't say I put too much stock in a Maxim review, but if I had to pick someone who would go wackjob nutty for tech like the PS3, it would be a men's mag. Kinda surprising if you ask me.

I'm an unbiased gamer. And I will play any game. And I am prepared to like it or hate it. Odds are it will fall somewhere right in the middle. But I will NOT rationalize it into either extreme just because I have a bone to pick or it's a make-or-break game. That's just not ethical as a journalist.

this all started with Comments of it's it's not a 9.0 or better it's not tripple a. and anything below that which was an exclusive was considered a flop. PS3 fanboys got on the same banwagon because the xbox fanboy started it. It's why we have xbox fanboys attacking LBP on user reveiws, something they started i may add, and now we have people creating sites and blogs just to review one Ps3 game.

It's not just PS3 fanboys but fanbois on a a whole. Some of the best games like warhawk and Motorstorm and PGR4 and even forza which fanboys consider flops critically because of the 8s it got provide far more enjoyment than some of those big games that score so high, like GTA4 and even fable.

Fanboys ruined this generation of enjoyment, and it started with Xbox fanboys and the media bashing sony for stumbling out of the gate.

I think you and a couple others don't understand their comment. "Hottest girl at the ball, but not the best dancer" translates to: The graphics are awesome, but the gameplay leaves something to be desired.

actually I've been following kz2 for awhile. The fanboys are getting up in arms even on the 4/5 scores. It was the ps3 fans and the major hype that did it. the 360 fans I've noticed have been keeping to themselves for the most part on kz2. My guess is you wont see much of them until release time. After the hype train has done its damage.

In actuality it's the ps3 fanboys who EXPECT a 10/10 or gtfo. I don't remember reading much 360 fans making that statement.

Killzone 2 is not on any Burger king cups like Halo 3 was, it's not on mountain dew like Halo 3, nor is it on pop dispensers like Halo 3; so Killzone 2's hype isn't nearly as bad as other games. The fact that you proclaim that only PS3 "fanboys" are expecting a 10/10 and 360 fanboys never said that is rendered by specious reasoning: it's only logical that 360 fanboys would wish that Killzone 2 will receive a low score and not the opposite.

yeah kewlkat...you have to see the difference between this 'review', and what wired said about Gears 2...

that happens ALL the time...you get some PS3 exclusive getting murdered (the EuroGamer 7/10 or whatever for Resistance 2) with poorly found opinions (the game is 'too' big, etc etc etc)...and then 360 fans show up and say 'yeah, we get that crap too'...

that Wired review of Gears 2 was perfectly accurate...pointed out the good and the bad...great visuals, albeit only an art change from 2006...great gameplay, yet the new mechanics offer very little overall...and do nothing to fix the chainsaw problem in MP...not to mention everything still wrong with the MP...Socom was completely written off as a broken game for the EXACT same reasons...yet Gears 2 gets a free pass...yet 1 8/10 and its all of a sudden like everyone's out to bag on the 360...

i'm not saying that that is what you are saying...I am saying that this is generally the review brought up to 'prove' that the media is equally retarded when it comes to the 360...which is blatantly wrong...

what I am talking about is that a lot of reviews for PS3 games will talk about a bunch of strong points...and very few weak...then slap a 7.5-8/10 on it...Uncharted was the biggest victim of this...gamespot friggin criticized it for excellent AI (go read the cons that Ryan Davis put up for that game...i'm not kidding)...this seems to be a small example of that for killzone 2, but its mostly irrelevant, as obvioulsy this mag has zero credibility...

but compare that to IGN's review of Mass Effect for the 360...go read it again if you forget...nearly 2 full pages dedicated to problems of the game...(broken combat ruining pacing, AI that is lackluster overall, and at times doesn't even 'turn on', insanely poor texture loading, bordering on 45 seconds for some areas, wonky controls, etc.)...and what do they do score wise?...yeah...the two systems stereotypically get very different review procedures...

again this isn't pointed at you...its just that what I think some of us are pointing out are scores being given that simply do not reflect the context of the review...and that seems to happen in a good way more often and not for the 360...and in a bad way towards the PS3...and there are tons of reviews that reflect exactly that...and by the way I am not saying an 8 out of 10 is 'bad'...if its given reasons on why it received that score...so be it...its when the review is gleaming with excellent impressions...and it receives and 8 afterwards...

If we learned anything from this, it's that MAXIM probably shouldn't be reviewing video games. GametimeUK has a tendency to like to troll, but his opinions ARE his own and when he said he had concerns about KZ2, he really did. He owns a PS3, and wants the game to succeed as much as any true gamer. He made a comment before, in one of the reviews, about how he might be wrong about it. One can understand, given the mixed reviews and opinions of the first game, his apprehension. He surely expects KZ2 to be a great game, and I very much doubt he takes reviews from Maxim seriously.

The scoring systems vary from site to site(or magazine to this sh!t magazine). Some even have the stupid letter system still, but for the 5/5 ratings people like to multiply the scores by 2 to bring them back to 10/10 scale, even though that doesn't make much sense.

First, this is NOT a gaming publication, and second, I really dont believe that score is competent. The beta was absolutely awesome, so if that was the multiplayer, then the single player can only move up from there. I think this is going to hit the right eyes, and get Maxim roasted. There was no justification in their argumentative and short review, that dictates anything less than 4.5 out of 5. I went to their site, and this review is not even listed anywhere, plus they gave Killzone:Liberation for PSP, 5 out of 5. So, a recap, nothing but compliments, and about 3 sentences, yet it got less than another game that has been known to be a badly put together(although pretty) game which is 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand. This review is utterly incoherent in gaming, and so is Maxim magazine. So now lets see what Hustler has to say about Killzone 2.

The people uploading the scans are technically breaking any rules, not the magazines. Hence the reason every review thus far is from a mag and not a website.

Fair point there is some truth in that if it was 5/5 people would be happy no doubt, this is one persons opinion that is each to their own biased or not. Well, it was a toss up for me !! 50 Cent , sfiv or KZ2. I can only afford 1. Looks like we have a winner !!!!!! 50 cen......what the f**k !! Ha Ha Ha , maxim reviewing games. I mean, I buy FHM etc... but I never even look at the games section, music section etc... only section I look at is chickadees and ...well thats it.

My fellow PS3 owners, we all know that they are not the gaming magazine. There's no need to be upset about it, just look the score they gave to SF IV. You can tell they aren't professional, and the reviews probably just base on writer's preference.
