Some PlayStation Fans May Actually Get the New PS5 Pro and Here’s Their Explanation

Some PlayStation fans are okay with getting the new PS5 Pro console, even though it is truly pricey.

Yang_kai245d ago

I got a friend that is going to get it just for GTA 6 🤦🏿

jarek98244d ago

Before GTA 6 comes out, there may be PlayStation 6 already ;-).

Cacabunga244d ago

Damage control is real.. so far i do not feel any gap with PS4 because lots pf titles are cross gen.
I need to see first party ps5 single player exclusives first before anything.
As for GTA6 it will also release on PS6 with all kinds of additions over Pro.

Dreadnort244d ago

Rest assured, GTA 6 will come out on the PS5, Then we can all look forward to buying the "upgrade" on PS6, followed by the "Remaster" for the PS6 mid-gen refresh before finally buying the "Definitive edition" on PS7.

wolf581244d ago

Me too....I was between ps5 pro or the series x spongebob edition at 699...the choice is obvious 🤣🤣🤣

Einhander1972245d ago

It going to be the best console experience.

And despite what the click bait may want to convince people of you can't build a PC for nearly the price of the PS5 Pro has tech that isn't in any of the graphics cards people are using as well as other parts (memory, SSD's) making these cheap builds.

Just wait until it's released and we start to see exactly what the console can do, not these misleading reports with zero fact or cross checking. I am fully confident that PS5 Pro will offer the best image quality the most stable framerates with the best post processing.

piroh245d ago (Edited 245d ago )

Last few years people comparing PS5/XsX and complaining about 1-2fps differences, now the same people hating on Pro which will bring new level of graphics for 700$. Remember how DF stated a game is best playable on this/that console due to 4-5fps difference.

Nobody is forced to buy a Pro, if not just ignore.

Tacoboto245d ago

I don't think anyone can or has denied that PS5 Pro will be the best place to game on console.

It's the terrible precedent that stings - a $700 digital console. An extra controller now costs more. The disc drive is another $80 and who looking for a "Pro" console won't need that for their library? You don't even get a stand. Sony is making fewer AAA titles, and it's announced by showing us not new games, but even PS4 ports.

I would like one someday, but there needs to be a line drawn in the sand *somewhere* on the egregious pricing of Sony hardware, and the trend it'll set by not even bundling in the disc drive.

Hotpot245d ago (Edited 245d ago )

This, precedent matters. If the Pro is popular you can bet your ass PS6 will start at that price or even higher, possibly also excluding disc drive.

This is just like back when apple finally break that $1000 price for a phone, and now every phone manufacturers follow suit.

Umb245d ago

That line was crossed long ago with consumer tech, and since some companies can get away with it. It has turned into a situation where all companies will start to do it. For exapmle, a certain fruit company charging $1000 for a monitor stand, which is pretty outrages. So this is not unique to only the gaming console sphere and being in Australia, I remember an RTX 3080 TI cost $2700-$3200!!! That's just for the GPU alone.

It is cocnerning to see where console gaming is heading in terms of the price point and will depend on the individual to determine if this hobby brings value to the lives.

mkis007245d ago

$700 for what the pro is today is much better than $600 what thr 2tb series x is today. From a purely hardware focused viewpoint an additional factor must also be low expectation of sales which prevents pricing these consoles below total cost. A good portion of pricing strategy is order volume and with them expecting 10% attach rate at most, I can't imagine their was much wiggle room. These facts don't exist in a vacuum, the base consoles are still their original msrp. This generation had high inflation low availability of cost downs.

CrimsonIdol245d ago

I don't understand why people keep pointing to this poorly received limited edition 2TB sparkly Xbox as a comparison. "yeah but the Xbox series X, a console that's selling terribly, has an SKU that costs too much. So if they can fail to sell their console why can't we?! DOUBLE STANDARDS!". You gotta get out of your console war mindset guys and just look at it objectively instead of just trying to point score against Xbox. Pat yourself on the shoulder you won, time to put down the gun.

We already have a great comparison piece: The PS4 Pro. Same mid gen refresh with a bump to GPU performance (well actually the PS4 was double the GPU performance where as the PS5 has a more modest improvement), same keep the old CPU, same doubling of storage. So what are the differences this gen?
-They took away the drive to sell it back to you again for another $100, ditto the stand
-The PS4 Pro cost the same as the PS4 did at launch, the PS5 Pro costs $200 more best case scenario (much worse if you happen to live outside the US, almost double the price here).

By every conceivable metric this is a far worse deal than before. Yes, "nobody is forcing me". it would have been nice, though. It's disappointing. It's got me looking at PC hardware, which it's dawned on me that for about half the price of a PS5 Pro I could actually upgrade my PC to an RTX 4080 super (not trying to suggest an RTX 4080 is good value either). As someone complaining I'm complaining that they talked me out of a sale of something that I had been anticipating. I personally don't think "don't like it, don't buy it" is a particularly good point. When a movie studio ruins some movie or franchise you were anticipating they usually say the same sort of thing and I don't think it ever is a valid dismissal of the criticism.

I appreciate we're dealing with inflation but we're also dealing with recession, meaning people, even "enthusiasts" are probably going to be being a bit more picky with their purchases.

trez1082244d ago

I don’t like the price and yes I’d agree it sets a bad precedent but not in the world we live today because us tech lovers are in for an expensive future if things stand as it is. Phones, consoles and even pc parts will get pricey due to some counties changing their policies to fight iligal mining and child labour that comes with it. Apple, Samsung etc are being sued left and right and tech companies which relied a lot on the illegal mining side of things ( lower cost) are all on some kind of stand still.

Nothing to do with us gamers but we will see a crazy prices and they’ll tell us it’s because of “ the new tech “. Having said all that, I buy all consoles and use my ps a lot more and would love to play some games on higher res or frame rate but not for that price. Collectively the tech consumers have to vote with their wallets to push those companies to change their own greedy policies and find a way to reduce cost for consumers.

OldDuffer244d ago (Edited 244d ago )

Those of us who have been digital for years certainly don't need or want a disc drive and we shouldn't have to pay to have one in the price. Both my current PS5's are also in the horizontal position, so I also don't want to pay for an included stand which would end up in the bin in my case.
Its quite correct to release a machine without including elements many of the purchasers will not require - you have it all backwards.
Releasing an item that includes stuff you might not need is incredibly wasteful and its this type of behaviour which is killing the planet - think better!

Having seen Xbox release a new version of Series X with zero hardware improvements at all (except 2tb storage) for $600, and having paid about $2600 for a 3090 gpu 2 years ago, the price for PS5 pro is not excessive at all to me. I bought a Neo Geo back when it launched which cost me over $1500 in todays money ($650 at the time). Entitled gamers simply like to jump on whatever hate bandwagon they can find and this is the latest. I prefer to play games than wave pitchforks or draw ' lines in the sand' and I know whos behaviour I find weird and inconsistent in this particular debate.

Enjoy your games, most people will be happy with the base performance PS5 and the rest of us will pay a little more to get better performance as I have always done.

Tacoboto244d ago

@Old

That's your argument?

Sony should just go full Apple then, right? Take out the controller because you already have one, take out the HDMI cable because everyone has several, and they should increase the price even more because you chose to buy an overly-inflated GPU at peak value.

fsfsxii244d ago

you can get ripped off by nintendo for 399$ you get 480p graphics with 2010 hardware inside, leave this industry and let it strive and prosper for once.

Is GTA6 the only game the only game to justify a ps5 pro? Because so far there is nothing.
You might as well tattoo SONY SUCKER on your forehead because this is Sony selling a slightly better product for hundreds more ,to someone who has already bought and paid for the original.

Einhander1972244d ago

It's no different than upgrading a video card. I guess anyone who buys a new video card should have Nvidia tattooed on their forehead...

The double standard here is outrageous.

Crows90244d ago

But for existing PC users it is very easy to upgrade to something superior

Einhander1972244d ago

But the console is sold at a subsidized price.

And all I keep hearing about is how CPU's aren't usable across generations and how using a similar CPU will somehow provide less FPS, so clearly the two most expensive parts need to be purchased every PC upgrade. And PS5 Pro has faster Memory and a larger SSD so you gotta buy those too and not cheap stuff either like the slowest possible ram the motherboard can accept like the recent "PC comparison builds"..

The fact is that the PS5 Pro is still much cheaper than buying or even upgrading to a similar PC.

il give you explanation, GTA6, - there, fixed it for you

245d ago
BeHunted245d ago

The CPU is still the same. I guess if you prefer playing GTA at 30 fps, choose PS5 Pro instead of a PC.

NotoriousWhiz245d ago

GTA 6 probably won't be on PC until after PS6 has arrived.

Petebloodyonion245d ago

Sure like How PS4 Pro improved RDR2 Framerate right?

244d ago
Einhander1972244d ago (Edited 244d ago )

PS4 Pro was in a whole other generation where very very few games even had 60 fps versions. You can count the number of 60 fps AAA games on PS4 on your fingers.

And just using one game as an example to pigeonhole a whole console is pointless.

And the saddest part is the way you guys just focus on one single aspect, there were other games listed in the report all that had various different enhancements including higher resolutions.

Again these developers used PSSR to upscale the game while adding other graphical enhancements. You guys haven't even let the developers talk about the game before taking some report of an early version of a game on a console that hasn't even released yet..

darthv72245d ago

I'll be getting as I did the 4 Pro, just not right away. They need to convince me of its benefits, not just making already existing games look better. I waited until GoW 2018 to get a Pro, and even that was roughly two years after it came onto the scene. It was GoW that convinced me. If there was a new GoW for PS5, and it really showcased all the benefits of a Pro... it will be a definite buy.

Goodguy01245d ago

Very curious as to how much will sell despite all the backlash. People do spend a lot more money these days...despite inflation.

Lightning77245d ago

It'll sell out 100%. Though I think they'll make fewer shipments to sell to the ones who really wanna get one.

Btw rumor update: Sony State Of Play is said to be on the 24 according to Jeff Grubb (brain of salt) previous rumor was 19th.

FinalFantasyFanatic244d ago

It blows my mind, people don't have money, yet they're spending the same amount or even more (to make up for the inflation), I don't know how people are affording things anymore.
