That’s how I viewed it. Trading in mine for a Pro personally.

HansyJ233d ago

Not entirely. I mean you’re still paying pretty much the cost of buying a PS five regular after trading in your base model in order to get the pro it’s an absurd price point. Lol

Or I can pay $165 for 2 hours of hitting golf balls at TopGolf vs $20 at the local driving range. This is called choice. Choices never hurt anyone. Your base PS5 will be just fine, only your ego will be disappointed.

No option to 'trade-in' where I live... So easy for Mr Rich Blizz to say.

A pro model achieves 2 things, it stops people moaning that the ps5 is underpowered, you now have a route to go to if you want a better ps5. It targets the people who might go to pc with a console priced lower than a base pc that would struggle to achieve anywhere near these specs

TiredGamer233d ago

And it’s a way for Sony to showcase all of their games in the best light possible. “Running on PS5 Pro” will be ubiquitous on future State of Plays.

And the good news is that you can still use and/or purchase the base model PS5 and get a great gaming experience if the Pro isn’t for you.

CobraKai233d ago

Do you. People will disagree. The only holding me back is the disc drive issue. Idgaf about the stand

Markdn233d ago

It's not a deal breaker, I have an origionla ps5 and I can say hand on heart not a single disc has ever entered the drive. I bought the new slim digital to without the drive as well. Just don't by discs, don't want to play old games from past systems on my console either so I'm all good

Juancho51233d ago

I bought PS5 with disc drive at launch, have not put ONE disc in there and i thought i was going to use it a lot. Im still surprised ive never used the disc drive lol.

CobraKai233d ago

@Markdn and Juancho

Makes sense for you guys but every game i bought on PS4 and PS5 is a physical so they shafted gamers like me. Only the monthly PS+ Games are digital and i already had a lot of em on disc.

Juancho51233d ago

Same. It’s a no-brainer. If you’ve never owned a ps5 before then pay the full price, those of us loyal early adopters will take advantage of this AWESOME Trade-In program.

Do us grown-ups require somebody to write an article to tell us this? Isn’t it obvious that you can sell your consul and trade it towards this lol you’re still gonna have to pay at least $500 out of your pocket to obtain it. I’m speaking as a this PS five pro will cost me $1000 after tax.

Someone who always buys the prom models over the last couple of generations I will be passing on this one. It doesn’t even seem necessary or a big enough of a jump

Juancho51233d ago

Choices are good, always. Some people like me see the value in this Pro release, I still have my launch PS5 so I’m upgrading for sure. This console isnt for you and thats ok, doesnt mean someone else wont get it. $500 to one person can feel like $5 to another. Im not saying im rich but the price tag doesnt phase me at all.

spicelicka232d ago

Sure choices are good, but so is feedback. Whoever can afford it comfortably can do so. It doesn't mean you can't criticize the price at the same time. I think it's important to let them know that it's a rip off. $350 is literally the price of a whole console, we've never had to pay this much for an "upgrade".

ActualWhiteMan233d ago

Gamestop top trade value is $357.

The math isnt mathing....

jznrpg233d ago

Never trade in and sell on eBay or local online marketplace.
Meet at the police station though if you ever do local marketplace

Eidolon232d ago (Edited 232d ago )

$350 sounds good on a whim. But then you have to invest $420+ more on PS5 Pro if you want disc option.. it's like buying a new console. You might be able to get in the $400s for a disc version PS5 if kept in good shape.

jwillj2k4233d ago

Gettin 2 pros, gonna sell like hotcakes.

CobraKai233d ago

If they had a disc version of Pro, id be more inclined. As is, i would have no way to play the games i own. Who knows if disc drives will be readily available after launch

jznrpg233d ago

I bought a disc drive already. They should be available soon after if they do actually sell out
