Astro Bot Is Not Coming to PSVR2, Devs Confirm

Astro Bot is not coming to PSVR2, though Team Asobi is open to a PC version and want to hear from fans regarding their interest about it.

darthv72292d ago

would love to see them patch the original to support the VR2.

Jingsing292d ago

Considering Astro Bot makes extensive use of the controller features and haptics putting it on PC doesn't seem like a wise idea. Also similar games like Sackboy and Ratchet and Clank didn't do well on PC either. So a bit of a slap in the face to PSVR2 users either way

darthv72292d ago

They could have done better had they released a bit sooner rather than later. But that is for Sony to decide.

TheNamelessOne291d ago

PC has support for the controller. Both 1st party, or done by enthusiasts.

Tacoboto291d ago

That's unwise to suggest. Should Sony just disable Remote Play because the phone apps don't support rumble, too?

jwillj2k4292d ago

Psvr was dead weight. Exactly why i didnt buy the second one only created to check a box.

Babadook7291d ago

They weren't money makers but both were amazing products. I still use PSVR2 almost daily.

jwillj2k4291d ago

Easy money makers with good games. They just dont care about it.

Babadook7290d ago

Not easy money at all. You just don't know how profitability and risk works.

jznrpg292d ago (Edited 292d ago )

That’s unfortunate. PSVR2 would be perfect for a game like this

S2Killinit291d ago (Edited 291d ago )

The Astrobot on original PSVR was one of the greatest platformer games ever created, we are talking Mario 3D status of impact, but unfortunately VR doesn’t get adopted by people because gamers seem to want shiny games, not fun games.

generic-user-name292d ago

Sony should be forcing all their studios to have PSVR2 modes in all their first party games where possible. They really dropped the ball and failed to build on the PSVR1. It's the Vita all over again.

S2Killinit291d ago (Edited 291d ago )

In Sony’s defense, I would say its difficult to get gamers to adopt VR. I give them credit for trying. The potential was there, but the adoption wasn’t. Developers will not develop for a device that doesn’t have millions of install. Not at a time when devs are already complaining that the cost of development is too high.

Tacoboto291d ago (Edited 291d ago )

It would've been easier if they didn't deliver it as this inconsistent product.

An accessory, more expensive than the platform it's for.
Wired, when Quest showed successful VR is wireless.
So many features and possibilities, but the first party launch title was an on-rails spinoff.
No backwards compatibility, when Quest 3 is fully backwards compatible.
No PC compatibility (until they effectively killed it), when Quest can do it both wired and wirelessly.

It was a joke of a product with amazing technology.

S2Killinit291d ago (Edited 291d ago )

None of the things you mentioned broke the product. It is an amazing product at a reasonable price point for what it delivers. If it was any cheaper it would be a subpar device and that would have been worse. As we speak, some of the best games of the generation can be played on it. But gamers dont want VR (overall), the inconvenience is prohibitive and the games aren't shiny enough until you put the headset on yourself. I think this will be the last we will see of VR on console for many many years.

bigfish291d ago

I think people are failing to understand what the psvr is. This hardware enables Sony to sell vr games on the ps store and take advantage of another revenue stream.

Sony are unlikely to invest heavily in vr from a software perspective just yet because the market is still growing so they are letting 3rd parties do most of heavy lifting for now. Psvr 3 is likely be the same but more of an increased investment from a software perspective. But ultimately it enables Sony to make some revenue on growing library of 3rd party games for now without having to bother too much about software. Sony have not mentioned they are leaving the vr market and with arguably the best headset on the market I don’t see them leaving vr gaming anytime soon

Dirty_Lemons291d ago

Whilst I agree with you, I recall a very similar argument when PSVR1 was released. If that's the case, we're still in the same situation as the 80s - VR technology ever improving, but the reality is it doesn't seem to be catching on amongst the masses.

darthv72291d ago

At the very least, if its a first person style game, it should be able to support a VR mode for extra immersion. They would still play fine for those who dont use the headset but if you do... it adds even more depth and realism.

I will say, when they added 3d support to killzone 3, that was really cool to play. I cant play it any other way now when I fire up my PS3. I was hoping more first person games would be supported with the PSVR because the ones that did was pretty impressive.

Nice little read and I really hope it rings true.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

It is not every day that I get to read an article pointing to a videogame that is releasing on PC, PlayStation, and XBox and another game published by Bandai Namco as proof of Sony's return to "quirky games."

Sony does need to return to their roots but since they've closed most of their studios that took those risks it will not be easy. It would also be nice to return to those times where we go more than 1 new first-party exclusive a year. It is hard to take risks if you are only releasing 1 game a year.

Playstation owners buy games.

Strange seeing Hogwarts there as I downloaded it for my son from PS Plus a couple of days ago.

Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.

Bathyj52d ago

Not really. It's directly contributed to having the healthiest console and ecosystem. Not really debatable.

The alternative is a console platform holder whose least important customers are the ones who own their console. That's why it's Microsoft games studios now not Xbox in all but name.

Microsoft needs PlayStation, PC and Nintendo players now more than they need Xbox players. They're a dying breed.

andy8552d ago

Not really. That's why Xbox is going under consoles wise. PS gamers purchase stuff that's why console and game sales are always high. Xbox gamers want games for 'free' on gamepass and to enter at the lowest price point (series s)

VenomUK52d ago

@InUrFoxHole said “Playstation owners buy games? That's a wild badge of honor my boy.”

This Tuesday after The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion was finally revealed I saw a tonne of conversation on X/Twitter of people gleefully mocking PS5 owners who said they were buying the game, as they were getting it for free with Game Pass. Yes, that’s great value for people with a Game Pass subscription - but do you still not see how it has impacted the Xbox hardware platform? It’s the reason Indiana Jones and Oblivion and Forza Horizon 5 aren’t exclusive anymore.

ravens5252d ago

InUrFoxHole, its wild that you think that's wild lmao. 🤯. You buy your food from the grocery store?? Ugggh. You should get Factor. Who pays for food anymore when you can pay a subscription to receive food for "free". Disgusting.

Sound stupid? It is.

InUrFoxHole52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

@Bathy
That's some cope there. You think the healthiest console is the one that doesn't even provide their gamers with their exclusive games? That crazy talk man. The healthiest is Nintendo and that's 💯 not even a debate. MS provides gamers with games. Sony provides you with MS games. Enjoy

@andy
You have broke brain. Gamepass isn't free. It's a sub service. Jesus n4g knows how to pick'em

andy8551d ago

@InUrFoxHole notice I put free in ' ' these? Doesn't take a genius. Every game that comes out on Xbox you'll see this comment "is this coming to gamepass".

2nd on the charts for a game such as Indy ain’t great.
Releasing half year after xbox version probably cooled off some demand.

This is a very good game, deserves the best chance to do well.

badz14952d ago

The real great performer here is Astrobot. keeping that rate of sales for a last year's game that is not GTAV, CoD and FIFA (now Hogwarts too). outselling MH Wilds and EA FC is kinda wild for Astrobot!

dveio52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

Hogwart's, Indiana, Astro Bot & Monster Hunter - that's a pretty nice top 4 once again.

I bet MachineGames are quite happy about the sales pouring in.
