Xbox helped fund Kunitsu-Gami in exchange for Game Pass
MS does something good it get crickets. Only negative MS news drives engagement.
Any game pass day one deal helps fund development. It's the same with lies of P, persona 3 reload, exoprimal, etc.
Same with Nintendo and Sony exclusives like SMTV and Stellar Blade. The money given from exclusivity funded development.
It's getting crickets because it's a "no duh" article about something that's happened several times before this game.
What you said is facts. It's also worth noting that MS funds fully fleshes out their projects with out taking the exclusive route like Stellar Blade and Sony. I don't praise MS for much this year other than the showcase they had but this is praise worthy. Because every platform still gets the game despite MS's funding.

Sony also has deals with games releasing on day one on Xbox. Callisto protocol got development support, RE games have marketing deals,etc
And Microsoft still has 3rd party exclusives like with Stalker 2 and Contraband.
So everyone is doing the usual and this isn't really a special case.

At this point in time, would an Xbox release help a game like Stellar Blade? I think the remaining contingent of Xbox gamers are generally resistant to game purchases because why not wait for Game Pass?
I'm not so sure it's worth it for a small studio to fight with optimizing games on Series S and Series X.
Regarding the exclusive route, I would argue that they don't want to lose exclusives, but the priority is maintaining Game Pass.
I'm not convinced it's pro -consumer so much as it is working backwards from the conclusion that "Game Pass can thrive".
Perhaps the rationale doesn't matter to most people, and that's fair. I just don't think it's as simple as "Microsoft is doing well by everyone across platforms."
Collisto Protocol still funded themselves Sony didn't fund them but they helped them out with tools, lighting and Sony themselves came in and helped them. 3rd party games being built from the ground up is a contractual agreement of course those will be exclusive or Timed Exclusive.

What's funny about that not everyone even knows what Gamepass is. You would think as much as we do over the internet talk about it and sure player counts are mentioned but allot still by games outright on Xbox. Good games still sell in a traditional matter of the console. Stellar Blade would of done fine on Xbox overall. Square themselves are done doing their exclusive route also.
If MS was already funding and helping an already multiplat game and still releasing as a multiplat sounds good in my book. It's definitely a "You scratch my back I scratch yours" situation only difference is it's on GP and not taking away the other platform. Which is a worse deal for everyone including the developers.
