Is fable considered a top dog ?

Obscure_Observer315d ago

Yes.

Anticipation for this game is all time high since it will be the first Fable game since Lionhead got shut down by MS and also the first RPG game by Playground which its track record for Forza Horizon series speaks by itself.

shinoff2183315d ago

I tried it when I got my 360 back in the day. It was alright. I just never seen it as a top dog. Lost odyessy and blue dragon were much better.

Inverno315d ago

It really isn't top dog lolz but fanboys will say otherwise. The first game in the series is probably the best it's ever been. Second game lacked, 3rd was a mess, then a shitty xbox arcade game followed by another shitty kinect spinoff, a card game, don't forget the co-op game that they cancelled and eventually shut the studio down after that. The series was on the decline since 2, and never recovered. I say that as a fan too, cause Fable was the only game I truly cared about from Xbox.

What did 2 lack? It was better than the first

Obscure_Observer315d ago

"What did 2 lack? It was better than the first"

Pay no mind to haters trying to sell lies and false narratives.

And yes, Fable 2 is simply the best Fable in the series, the most critically acclaimed and most successful Fable game to date.

https://www.vgchartz.com/ga...

It sold 5 Million copies during PS3/360 era outselling many mainstream RPG games at that time released for consoles like Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Demon Souls, Dark Souls, The Witcher 2 and more.

Inverno315d ago

Tbh I didn't play the first all the way through but what i did play i liked a lot more than 2. Fable 2 however was my first PS360 gen game and while I did enjoy it, overall i liked the feeling and setting of what I did play of the first. Fable 2's good and evil were more aesthetic and for a game about choices i remember being disappointed with the lack of weight those choices actually had. The ending was also hugely disappointing SPOILERS… You don't get a choice at all on how to deal with the main villain, if you can even call him a villain since he doesn't show up much if at all until the end from what i remember and if you wait too long you aren't even the one that kills him! All that and you're just given a choice of 1 of 3 wishes. 2 just felt ambitious but lacking, which is common for pretty much everything Peter Molyneux did after.

DodoDojo314d ago

2 was decent at best, no way was it on the same level as the first one. My biggest complaint was that it was way too easy, the combat wasn't the least bit challenging. Of course 2 outsold 1, the original Xbox only sold 24M units vs the 360's 87M.

No one cares for this game. It's vaporware at this point and will have abysmal sales. Took way too long to be made. It's core fans have outgrown the whole cartoon fantasy nonsense.

AuraAbjure314d ago

Fable 2 was illmatic! It's combat was more intuitive than ES Oblivion's, plus it was less glitchy and more approachable. The art was really good too and there were many different experiences to be had for multiple playthroughs.

They better figure our a release date because GTA might release late September early October so they better be smart about this.

Obscure_Observer315d ago

Matt Booty recently said that they already have internal release dates for many upcoming Xbox games that they just didn´t reveal it to the public to either avoid and release those games so close to a GTA VI release date or cannibalizing XGS itself by setting release dates for two highly anticipated games (like Gears and Fable for example) so close to one another.

Reaper22_315d ago

Playground Games are good devs. I'm looking foward to this game.

andy85315d ago

Quietly excited for this. It was one of my favourite series I really hope they don't tank it

Destiny1080315d ago

lets hope it breaks the top 100

Ninver315d ago

If it's not pew pew it's not selling on Xbox. Let's face it, these sorts of games are not well received by the current Xbox fanbase.

Most Anticipated Game of 2025

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "While 2024 was by no means a weak year for games, it was a bit of a calm one when it came to big releases to established franchises. The same definitely cannot be said for 2025 - not, at least, as things look right now. Whether it's the return of long dormant series, the first follow-up to a well-received title, or another entry in a series that's been on a roll as of late, there's a lot to look forward to in 2025; so much so that even the five esteemed games on our shortlist feel like they only cover a small piece of it."

I dont understand why ghost of yotei gets a pass for looking like a ps4 game? Yet the same people want to jump on avowed for looking last gen.

glenn1979120d ago

sshhhh you can't say those things here , your feeding the trolls and goblins

Sonic1881120d ago (Edited 120d ago )

The Witcher 4, GTA6, and Metroid Prime for me

Machina120d ago (Edited 120d ago )

Full scale production on Witcher 4 only began recently, so it definitely won't be releasing this year.

Kneetos118d ago

Xenoblade chronicles X DE (I know it's not "new") and kitori academy (this game looks so charming and cute)

Zeldafan64118d ago

I've already played Xenoblade Chronicles X but it will be new to 90% of the Switch user base. I will be picking up the DE day one.

2025 is packed with State of decay 3, perfect dark, everwild, fable, south of midnight, towerborne, Avowed, The Outer worlds 2, doom, Gears of War: Eday. Plus theres rumors of an Oblivion remaster and Forza Horizon 6 at the end of the year. Surely some of these will need to push to 2026, but even if half of them make 2025, that's a solid line up for xbox next year.

"2025 is packed with State of decay 3, perfect dark, everwild, fable, south of midnight, towerborne, Avowed, The Outer worlds 2, doom, Gears of War: Eday."

I personally believe that Gears E-Day, Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 and Everwild will be 2026 and beyond releases.

2025 is already packed with at least SIX first party games: Avowed, Towerborne, South of Midnight, Doom, The Outer Worlds 2 and a new COD game.

Not to mention the day one third party games on Gamepass like: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Eternal Strands, Atomfall, Mixtape, Hollow Knight Silksong, The Alters and 33 Immortals just to name a few. O.o

Xbox is absolutely packed and Gamepass is just to good to be true.

Sciurus_vulgaris140d ago

Gears of War: E-Day launching in 2026 would be fitting for the franchise’s 20th anniversary.

SonyStyled140d ago

I had hopes that Xbox would turn things around and finally, the games are coming! Not sure what you mean by first party as the games are coming to every platform. They are third party games, which is great for gamers (and MS gaming division) but not great for the Xbox console. The console space is a lot smaller with MS going the SEGA route

140d ago
ThinkThink140d ago

@SonyStyled first party means owned and operated by microsoft in this case. While i anticipate most of the bethesda games will make their way to playstation and switch 2, xbox will continue to still have at sizable library of console exclusives. For example, how many of those 15 or so xbox games mentioned for 2025 mentioned in this thread are coming to playstation or switch? 3 or 4? MS already said they would honor previous franchises like doom, outer worlds, etc. So that playstation isn't left out. I mean, if they go the sega route on day, that's great for everyone, but I feel you guys are setting yourself up for disappointment if you think it's happening any time soon. Maybe if their next gen tanks, they will consider it? Something to root for. 😀

South of Midnight looks way better than I expected! It has a modern Beyond of Evil feel! Graphics look pretty good too! Forza I'm kinda burnt out on, but hope they revitalize it, it is a beautiful game! New Gears, yes please! I have never played Fable, Avowed looking great, etc 2025 is stacked!

BehindTheRows139d ago

Gears: E-Day was not given a 2025 release date. In fact, I’d bet most of that won’t release in 2025.

Won't be .... its geared more towards AA RPG fans, than AAA God of War Ragnarok speedrunners.
It'll be a 7.5~8.5 game, imo.
But what makes you say 'DOA' ?

MetroidFREAK21140d ago

Whatever comes to PS5, I'll be sure to snag a physical copy for (Doom for example) Perfect Dark has my attention, as does Avowed and Fable for my Series S

I think everyone was really expecting to see the handheld at the showcase. I have a feeling they're not ready to show it because they're waiting on newer chips from AMD. It'll need a beefy mobile GPU/CPU to play these games. If I had to guess, it'll launch alongside Gears of War: E-Day and have a special launch edition.

If they can launch something like the Steam Deck but with the Xbox UI and a lightweight, gaming-focused version of Windows, it could be a real contender in that space. Especially if they can adopt some of the modularity of the Elite controllers. Easily swap sticks, triggers, buttons, custom shells, etc.

4Sh0w342d ago

I'd love a Xbox handheld & for me new upgraded hardware is always welcomed but honestly not really neccessary for Xbox until next gen because face it, if you really care, PC is a natural option.

Crows90342d ago

I was expecting real gameplay for fable, perfect dark and extensive look at avowed....didn't care about a handheld from Xbox at all.

Good showing all in all though

TheColbertinator342d ago

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

crazyCoconuts342d ago

Just to put things into perspective, when Sony put a slim PS5 out there they redesigned the console and made the drive modular. They at least put some effort into it. Finally, a year later Microsoft just pulls the drive out and calls it a day. In that time Sony has readied a PS5 Pro to add insult to injury.

franwex342d ago (Edited 342d ago )

Don’t forget a price increase.

Though to be fair a PS5 pro is an absolute confounding waste. Might as well go PS6 in a couple of years instead.

This gen sucks.

crazyCoconuts341d ago

Whether your plan on buying one or not, the thing is that PS is running circles around Xbox in the hardware department.

It really comes down to price. The new S is the same but the series X with the extra terabyte is way overpriced.
I guess they justified $599 on the fact if you bought a regular X and upgraded the memory with a Seagate or WD external drive it would be the same or slightly cheaper. But internal memory bought in bulk couldn’t have added that much cost to the box.

cthulhucultist342d ago

Personally I wanted the show to be about games and it delivered! The crazy part is that we still have so many games under development by all companies!

Nintendo has a direct coming (probably more ports though) and an upcoming console early next year with a presumably stellar line up of launch games

Sony has already delivered highly rated third party games
Helldivers 2
FF7 Rebirth
Rise of Ronin
Stellar Blad
with more to come (Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2 Remake etc) in 2024 and many many more in 2025!

Xbox showed many good games and still has many to be revealed or showcased

Contraband
Clockwork Revolution
Everwild
Blade
Outer Worlds 2
OD (Kojima Project)
Project Mara
Project Maverick
Elders Scrolls 6
Fallout 5

We also have dozens of third party games announced this summer so I personally think that we have enough software to carry us throughout 2024-2025.

As for portable hardware, there are numerous options of handheld PCs that play PC/Xbox/Sony games (Steamdeck OLED, Asus Rog Ally X, Lenovo Legion Go etc) and thus It did not bother me that MS did not announce one.

They probably reserve the reveal for a more hardware centric event
