Already have Xbox built into my 2024 Samsung series 8 tv, now firestick, if only they did full Mac support not just cloud streaming, I might actually play one of their games, maybe

VenomUK304d ago

This is actually pretty cool.

Lack of mac support is do too apple no longer using intel/amd components when they went with there M1 chips it killed the game porting market for mac just to expensive and the system specs are crap they are slowly adding support with that toolkit but the results are not great but they work.

Cool they are expanding beyond the Samsung deal. Maybe they will add Chromecast support too? Stadia failed where GP on Chromecast could succeed.

S2Killinit304d ago

I figured as someone who seems to be a console gamer, you would not be in support of ending consoles as we know them. But I guess “console” gaming is no longer what people want? Im baffled tbo. I see this as the beginning of a horrible future. Horrible.

Obscure_Observer304d ago

"But I guess “console” gaming is no longer what people want? Im baffled tbo. I see this as the beginning of a horrible future. Horrible."

Don´t be over dramatic. Cloud gaming still is far from offer an Xbox Series S´s level of experience and performance in gameplay, let alone an Xbox Series X level of performance.

Microsoft already confirmed a new next gen console, so console gaming will be fine.

darthv72304d ago

I am a gamer... which is to say I like playing games, no matter where. Handheld, mobile, PC, console.... and streaming.

S2Killinit304d ago

But are you ok with streaming service replacing consoles? Because that is where this is heading.

NotoriousWhiz303d ago

This is not heading towards replacing consoles. This is providing people another way to play the games they want to play. Cloud gaming will never replace console gaming, but it can supplement it.

Crows90303d ago

Don't worry. Xbox consoles are dying. Nintendo and Sony will still be around.

S2Killinit303d ago

Thats why im confused. Xbox is dying and these xbox fans are cheering its death. Its upside down world. With how little xbox sells, this seems to be MS’s plan to escape the console space.

I think this is great for Game Pass and reaching a larger market, but bad for Xbox hardware which is already just not selling. Why have hardware when you're on PC and every TV out there that connects to the Internet?

spicelicka304d ago

You would think that because it makes sense, but the market and consumer behavior just doesn't work that way. No one thinks of cloud gaming as a replacement for physical platforms. It's either people who already have an xbox but want more places to play their games, or people who were never going to buy an xbox anyway and might indulge now that they have an option to stream. PC demographic is also different from the console demographic. Their hardware sales have always been low anyway. I think their approach is to raise brand popularity enough that everything including subscriptions, console sales, and software sales all grow together.

Christopher304d ago

***No one thinks of cloud gaming as a replacement for physical platforms.***

Which is why I mentioned PC before TVs.

***It's either people who already have an xbox but want more places to play their games, or people who were never going to buy an xbox anyway and might indulge now that they have an option to stream.***

Sure, it's absolutely ***NEVER*** giving people less reason to own the hardware. It's ***ALWAYS*** that those people weren't going to buy anyway. Sure sure sure.

***PC demographic is also different from the console demographic.***

In that it's more diverse, but the console market is absolutely a subset of the PC market.

***Their hardware sales have always been low anyway.***

And that means it's okay for them to go even lower!

You're literally making my point for me here.

VenomUK304d ago

@Christopher Why is Microsoft cutting the throat of its hardware business? Because of the bigger prize. Game Pass is likely only subscribed to by hardcore gamers who have committed to spending £250+ on a console. With a cloud service that is available on FireTV and eventually all smart TVs the potential userbase is massively larger because it could be anybody who decides to play a game on a whim.

Now of course there is still the infrastructure costs and software costs that are likely to still be losing Microsoft billions until it builds a significantly larger userbase. The question is Netflix is already the most subscribed cloud entertainment platform - can it get its game streaming business established first?

Christopher304d ago

So you agree with me? I know why they're doing it. I just said they are doing it and this is further proof of them doing it.

304d ago
SonyStyled304d ago (Edited 304d ago )

I agree what Christopher is trying to say. This is great for gamepass and getting gamers subscribed into the community. Unfortunately console sales are very low for that platform. The best way to get games to gamers is by options like this, where games can be anywhere with gamepass. I don’t think it helps Xbox as a console if users can get gamepass with hardware already owned. Stores have stopped selling Xbox physical games. Console sales are abysmally low, game sales in decline. I truly do wish the best for the future of the Xbox Console

just_looken304d ago

Back in the day your halo/gears/forza/dead rising were only on xbox console when xbox first tossed out there streaming they never had there big games on it except master chief collection so that is were hardware sold with the one console and 360 before.

I keep saying the new xbox want's to be sega they no longer have xbox hardware exclusive games there future is software be it on pc or the cloud.

Do not forget also they have cloud games meant for on the go its no stadia so hardware no longer matters anymore they do not care about the sales hence the disc less new models its all digital/software for them now.

I personally do not see a new xbox console for the next gen just there games being tossed on pc/cloud/ps6/switch 2

HyperMoused304d ago

Theye want to get out of hardware, xbox is dead and the fans just dont know it yet, i gave up mine for PC

The_Blue304d ago

If anything it will maybe boost sells because it's lag

PhillyDonJawn304d ago

Hardware profits no money anyway so it's not much of a loss tbh.

ChasterMies304d ago

“Why have hardware when you're on PC and every TV out there that connects to the Internet?”

Because a lot of people don’t have PCs, because a lot of people don’t have fast enough internet for streaming games, because a lot of people don’t have TVs that can handle streaming games, and because streaming games doesn’t work as well for multiplayer.

Christopher304d ago

Yeah, no. A PC the cost of a console can play more games, including most Xbox games. If they don't have a PC they aren't getting a console to do only games.

NotoriousWhiz303d ago

^ What? People get consoles just for games all the time. That's the whole point of getting a console.

If your argument is that people that can stream games would never buy a console for the same games, I would argue that depends on the streaming quality. Streaming quality / responsiveness doesn't touch physical hardware running natively. As long as that remains true, there will always be a reason for a console.

Christopher303d ago (Edited 303d ago )

***^ What? People get consoles just for games all the time. That's the whole point of getting a console. ***

Very rarely do they do that and not own a PC as well.

Did you not read to whom I was replying? In the world where a person doesn't have internet to stream games and has to chose between a PC or a console, which one do you think they're getting?

You're responding to me outside of the conversation parameters ChasterMies set.

***If your argument is that people that can stream games would never buy a console for the same games, I would argue that depends on the streaming quality.***

The argument is that Microsoft isn't giving people reason to buy consoles over just going PC, streaming, and a competing console instead. There's no reason to have the hardware other than to play games you can play elsewhere on Day 1 of release. None.

---

Let's look at it this way, please explain to me how Microsoft is encouraging people to buy hardware by expanding their subscription service to more options than before and releasing all their games on PC. How does that support consoles? How does it encourage people to buy the hardware? How is that not giving people more options to not rely on hardware to play their games?

I'll wait since people seem to only want to argue against the statement but present absolutely no reason for their side of this conversation other than 'people can play games on hardware' like that's the point being discussed.

NotoriousWhiz303d ago

Releasing game pass on other services isn't about selling more consoles. It's about selling more subscriptions. Those other services will never be able to play those games natively. That's where hardware comes in. For those that want to play natively. Not everything is about selling more consoles. Quite frankly, I don't think Microsoft cares about selling more consoles, otherwise they wouldn't be releasing their 1st party games on PS. Selling more subscriptions doesn't result in selling fewer consoles. Releasing their games on every other platform will result in selling fewer consoles.

Would love it if playstation do this again, fingers crossed

TheEroica304d ago (Edited 304d ago )

Sony can't even make a proper ps2 emulator lol😂 they'd need every gerbil running on every wheel in sync to begin designing something like this.

S2Killinit304d ago

This is garbage. I hope Sony don't do this. Let MS’s burning ship sink in a blaze of streaming crap by itself.

Hypertension140304d ago (Edited 304d ago )

@TheEroica

Isn't the PS5 cloud streaming better than Xbox? I remember Digital Foundry did a video on it.

The only issue with the ps2 emulator is the low resolution, which is kinda disappointing. Otherwise is runs flawlessly with zero graphical glitches, and all the extra features are nice. For only $10, you can't really complain.

Dollhouse: Behind the Broken Mirror (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "The only thing developers Grindstone & Indigo Studios have successfully argued is how underwhelming spooky dolls tend to be as a horror main course; even so, they didn't have to forego quality craftsmanship all the while. Apropos of its central premise, if you held a physical copy up to a mirror you'd see a "How Not to Design Horror" book in the reflection. From vacuous nonsense tarnishing what's otherwise a rather basic story to dogshit gameplay, nearly every aspect reads like an asset-flipped indie horror game that somehow got a legitimate publisher's attention and additional funding. Perhaps it's quite fitting, then, that Behind the Broken Mirror managed to shatter my subterranean expectations."

“ certainly doesn't help that, layered on top of so many failings, this is retailing for $30 on console”

Outrageous! 🤮

I know, man. I don't *try* to fixate on price over other qualities, but it's a huge red flag to ignore in this case.
