Black Ops 6 Internet Connection Required for Campaign; Split-Screen Only Available for Current-Gen

Black Ops 6 will require an internet connection to play all modes, and that includes the single-player campaign confirms Activision.

P_Bomb386d ago

Online SP? Better have a good autosave/checkpoint system in place. Especially at launch when things tend to go belly up (ala The Final Shape).

outsider1624385d ago

For a single player? Anyway 300+ gb for a single game is enough for me to pass on this.

phoenixwing385d ago

300gb is no go for me plus the online only doesn't make me happy either

I just don’t understand the people who complain about this in this day and age. I mean WHO really has a current gen console not connected to the internet? And if you are one of the few then why not? Why even bother with modern gaming if you have no internet? It’s really a non issue at this point.

Yi-Long385d ago

Explain to me why suddenly it should be necessary to always be online to play a SP campaign-mode ... ?

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH385d ago

First of all it’s not “suddenly “ it’s been happening for years now. Secondly explain to me why ANYONE would have a modern gaming console NOT connected to the net? Is your console always online? I bet it is. I’m not saying it’s ok but I am saying it’s just the way gaming is now so why complain? It’s NOT going to change just like MTS will not go away. Deal with it.

Examples:
- I own The Crew on PS4, which had a single-player campaign
- I have an internet connection to my PS5
- despite that, the game is unplayable now because it required a constant internet connection and Ubisoft shut it down

- I own Babylon's Fall on PS5, which was fully playable solo
- I have an internet connection to my PS5
- despite that, the game is unplayable now because it required a constant internet connection and Square Enix shut it down

For most people it isn't about not having an internet connection to your console (except maybe for some people in rural areas or poorer countries it is). It's about the games we pay for with single-player content becoming unplayable at the whim of the publishers. No matter how good our internet connection. Maybe you're fine with companies deciding when your single-player games stop working, but many people aren't.

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH384d ago

Then simply don’t buy games that require internet connection problem solved. My question is why would you buy a game that requires internet for single player if you feel that way?

fan_of_gaming384d ago

Because I also enjoy collecting games, and even though it's a shitty business practice the games can still be fun. I was able to get the platinum trophy for Babylon's Fall before it shut down. I'm glad I got to play it, even though that doesn't change the fact it sucks it is now unusable. Unfortunately The Crew started having connection issues months before it's "official" shutdown, so when I tried to play it I couldn't and now never can. And sometimes games will remove the always-online requirement post-launch (recent examples are Gran Turismo Sport, Wayfinder & Redfall. Suicide Squad is also supposed to get an offline patch in 2024).

Your initial post stated "I just don’t understand the people who complain about this". I'm trying to explain to you why we complain about it, and it isn't because we don't have internet. It's much more about game preservation, and sometimes it works (like those 4 examples I just mentioned where the games will now continue to be playable in the future, instead of becoming unusable). Or another situation is how people complained Alan Wake II didn't have a physical copy, and Remedy/Epic saw that and now there is one being released. Now if Alan Wake II gets delisted in the future (as Alan Wake 1 was at one point), the game won't become lost media.

fan_of_gaming384d ago

Just as an additional follow-up to "Then simply don’t buy games that require internet connection problem solved"

That is an option, but developers are suffering from layoffs & closures all over the industry. I try to support games (that interest me) that still have single-player content & a physical copy whenever possible. I disagree that not buying games is a solution, as I'd personally rather buy it to show the developer I support their game but also voice to them that I hope they will consider adding offline functionality so the game doesn't one day die. And sure I'm only one consumer, but there are Twitter/X accounts & Youtube channels dedicated to game preservation so I'm not the only one.

Ballerina Comes To Call Of Duty

This is an unusual pairing as Ballerina is coming to Call of Duty.

Activision says gross Call of Duty loadout screen ads were only a test that was added “in error”

Call of Duty added in-game ads to the Black Ops 6 loadout screen, but Activision is claiming the gross update was added by mistake.

-Foxtrot27d ago

Didn’t Ubisoft use this excuse a while back when they did something similar?

Christopher27d ago

It's amazing how many companies are open with their inability to properly manage software releases while at the same time revealing they have designs developed and ready for full release to do things they know will annoy gamers.

Eonjay26d ago

One would speculate that the may former is related to the latter lol.

Tacoboto27d ago

Microsoft has certainly used that excuse in at least 2-3 Windows updates over the recent years over ads in the Start Menu or something like that

Eonjay26d ago

Literally no one, including Activision believes that excuse lol.

peppeaccardo25d ago

🤣 bro how many times are we gonna hear this excuse just for it to show up again later

neutralgamer199226d ago

And it was a test meaning it's coming sooner rather than later

InUrFoxHole26d ago

Thoughts and prayers... You're gonna hear it a lot

Reaper22_25d ago

As many times as you keep listening. Maybe you should write them and tell them how you feel.

isarai25d ago

Nah I'll just continue to not buy their games 😎👍

gold_drake27d ago

"oh so sooowy, we wanted to do iiit, but obviously not launch it yet, so its totally not our fault, it was fully functional tho lolzzzz"

Neonridr26d ago

I'm sure these were only by "accident" after the uproar.

Black Ops Season 4 Update Broke The Game Again, Enough is Enough

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 4 broke the game like every previous update, and it's all for CoD HQ. Isn't that enough to kick it away?

abit ridiculous imo, especially for this massive franchise.

Goodguy0128d ago

There's always these random new bugs introduced and bugs that have still been there since day one. But do you know what's still been working absolutely fine? The microtransactions baby 😒

TheColbertinator28d ago

You're right. Somehow nothing else works except ways to max out your credit card.

Deathtracker28d ago

Daymn right! Sometimes the game's not running but the Store tab works flawlessly.

Garethvk28d ago

It has caused Direct X error crashes for me in MP matches.

franwex28d ago

I didn’t experience any bugs so far. Look forward to encountering them eventually.

GortJester28d ago

Enough is enough. They've been given more than enough money to have a working product. It's the deja vu constantly with this franchise.
