Does Microsoft's line-up have enough to battle in 2009?

I find it hard to believe in this day and age where the internet and blogs rule that no one has any idea what MS has to offer in 2009. Everyone says well they did the same last year...no they did not. The public knew there was a Gears 2 coming and Fable was coming, along with Too Human (flop of the year) and Banjo (another flop taht fails to get mentioned) and they did release. so how is it besides 2 Halo games and MAYBE Alan Wake does MS manage to keep other exclusives tight mouthed from EVERYONE? At every company, government, sports franchise, etc. there is always someone to spill the beans on something. Unless they have exclusives hidden in the matrix, besides what we already know about, there isnt much to know about.

As you said, they formally announced Gears2. But With the tech-engine/hype/leaks. Everyone knew Gears 2 was in the works, and even then. Gears 2 came out at the end of the year.

Because lets be real, none of the 2008 lineup for the 360 was on the level of Gears2. Consoles all have their exclusives, but big exclusives are rare. 2008 was proof of that considering the only thing reported about 2008 and Microsoft, comes from November news.

I'm waiting just like everyone else is to see the 2009 lineup, but its very hard to believe that the game industry misses game development news. The biggest out-of-no-where news was news that the 360 is getting a playstation game, due on the 360 in 2010. Not Gears2. I hate to dispel the rumor about E3, but e3 is late in the year as far as game lineup goes, and it didn't bring any big shocks outside of FF13. Even if its a huge title, what are the odds that its going to be a multiple amount of games that have escaped everyones radar? Thats just not realistic, its never happened. Not only that, but will they even be real exclusives? Even the biggest possible 2009 title, Alan Wake. Is a PC title as well.

The reality is its 2009, MS has no exclusive game line up currently, but thats currently. I think everyone has to wait a while before really calling MS to task for their exclusive lineup, its still early. But right now, its looking like 2008 all over again.

Want to prove me wrong? What "AAA" exclusive games were you playing on the 360 in 2008 before Gears2?

Except that they don't. By the GDC in February of last year, we knew of Fable 2, Gears 2, and all the other major exclusives to be released in 2008. The "mystery" games that MSFT had were holding back were XBL Arcade games that went along with the NXE--most of which have still not been released by the way.

As of right now, we know of several high profile titles-- 2 Halo games, GTA Content, Fallout content, and possibly Alan Wake. So what's left--Mass Effect 2? Forza? That other 360 racer? Huxley? i mean, all you have to do is look at the numerous lists of upcoming 360 titles that floats around here to get an idea of what's coming.

I know people keep saying they don't announce anything until the year it's suppose to be out, But people keep saying wait till E3, GDC, or TGS but last year M$ announced nothing but 1 or 2 exclusives multiplats and 3 games now going multiplat FFXIII, Tekken 6 and RE5 (even though this was already on other platforms). So what gonna happen this year are they gonna have some big games to announce everyone keep talking about ME2, Forza 3 and Alan Wake but none of those game have any news what so ever if they bring out these game s for sure then M$ will have something to gloat about if these turn out to be 2010 games then the 360 will be collecting dust once Ninja Blade releases anything after that doesn't interesting me.

I posted it, and I am hardly a PS3 fanboy. Check my posts and comments. You will see I am a 360 supporter. I don't think its doom and gloom yet for MS in 09. Clearly based on their past track record they can and most likely will make some announcements for the later part of year. However, going into the first half of 09 their line up has a lot of "potential" titles but alot of those could slip and are out of their control. Thus why MS needs to make some big announcements on lock in more dates of release sooner rather than later to create some good ground swell for the 360 in 09.

the same was said last year because MS had nothing. Tell me what they had. You had jack sh!t for most of the year other than multiplats. They did have a couple great games but their line up flattered to deceive. Their 07 line up was much better in terms of quality and quantity. Lips, banjo, gaiden all mediocre if we have to be overly critical. I understand that you may have enjoyed many of the games people may have rightly or wrongly labeled flops but the reality is the lack of studios is showing. Right now it's about exclusives be they good or bad thats the big thing "ZOMG We get exclusive GTA4 DLC a year after it's release... rockstar should be doing something more productive then that... so in a way your right but in a way competition is really holding the industry back... Not at the moment as MS really hasn't said much about 2009. We will have to wait and see, but the current line up is poor. MS doesn't have too many 1st party tiles to rely on like Sony. Sony's 1st party line up is very strong.

You can't just name ALL the PS3 exclusive and expect they are all going to be blockbusters. Viva Pinata can compete against a third of that list. You have 2 Great games coming out and several average to pretty decent games coming out. KZ2 and god of War 3. That's really it. GT 5 will do alright, but it will not show sales like KZ2 or GOW3. Xbox NEVER releases their best material till E3, which they have done every year since the system release.

There is no doubt PS3 should have a great year, but don't think what you have seen from Microsoft so far is all they got, that's just silly.

If GT5 came out with last years lineup it would sell greatly, but with all these exclusives coming out, it will not sell like it should. It's fine if you don't believe me, but if you do research, you'll see the whole racing vibe is slowly ending. The 360's line-up isn't so bad. At least you get an expansion, DLC, and a RTS up for the first quarter this year.

Whether you like it or not, Mass Effect 2 is the only sure hit on the 360 amongst announced games. I guess you can go back and play some awesomes games that you might have missed in 2006/2007.

Look back at 2006- 2007, the 360 had some crazy line-up. Gears, Forza 2, Bioshock, Halo 3, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Prey, Saints Row and Mass Effect. Look at 2008, the only real AAA exclusive was Gears 2 and the only other really good game was Fable 2 but of which released in the last 3 months of last year.

I sincerely hope, for the sake of competition and of my fellow gamers that have yet to make the switch to the dark side, that Microsoft delivers after E3.

I really feel bad for PS3 owners talking up there exclusive stuff. Does MS need to B1tch slap you guys every freaking year lol. 360 has dominated in Software since the original Xbox days, and now all of the sudden there suppose to be in trouble because Sony keeps hyping there 2009 to 2011 line up early on. 2009 is the year of 360 and not until E3 will you knuckle heads understand why.

Who care about games coming 9 - 10 months from now. I will be enjoying FEAR 2, SF4, RE5, Ninja Blade, Star Ocean 4, Halo Wars and new DLCs from GTA4, Fallout 3, and Fable 2 while the PS3 fanboys get their Killzone 2 and wait till the end of the year for their wet dream games. Remember, 99% of all games are multiplatform, so as long as the 360 has games coming I really don't care about the suppose superior PS3 2009 lineup.

Well atleast it will be better than 2008 or i am hoping it should. because in 2008 there were only 2 great exclusive titles Gears 2 and Fable 2. I am hoping they just don't rely on Halo 3 ODST and have some big name titles for xmas. I am guessing they will have Forza 3 and MassEffect 2 ready around holiday period. I am just worried with there take on casual market. I am afraid they may move there focus from hardcore games to titles for casual market. so lets see. I think they will announce there lineup or partial lineup at GDC09 & the rest at E3 09. But by the looks of it Sony will have another year of great exclusives.

Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, Halo ODST, Splinter Cell Conviction, Forza 3, GTA4 DLC #2, Ninja Blade, Halo Wars, Star Ocean 4, at least one Rare game (KI3, Perfect Dark??), APB. Plus every major Third Party games.

PS3 fanboys need to stop with this non-sense that the xbox has no exclusives or a weak lineup. If anything, they have the most diversed lineup that covers every major genres you can think of. Plus, at GDC and E3, I have no doubt they will have one or two more exclusives up their sleeves.

PS3 lineup is strong as well and we as gamers should just stop this fanboy BS and get both consoles so we can play every AAA games. But this is N4G, who am I kidding?
