30 vs 60 FPS has been a hotly debated topic since the release of the Xbox Series and PlayStation 5 consoles. What side are you on?
Realism is one of many valid art forms and not the only recipe for success.
"Anything below the pristine, realistic scenes we see in pretty trailers is quickly dubbed a “PS3 game", which was the case during Rise of the Ronin’s debut."
Er... no thanks. Last thing we need is a PS3 looking Hellblade game.
I rather have Hellblade II truth to its roots. Dark Fantasy narrative driven adventure, focused on photo-realism, believable world, stunning looking environments, realistic combat, exceptional animations, state of art sound engineering and Melinda´s beauty and superior act skills to take Senua and Hellblade II´s immersion to a whole new level in gaming.
@Kornholic no it's worse than that. He loves Xbox and Phil so much that he does this for free! Honestly I struggle to believe this is a grown adult. Sometimes his comments are so ridiculous they border on parody.
@Korn/ Barlos: “He is an MS employee. It has become pretty clear at this point”
It’s even sadder than that he’s a guy that gets paid for every response he gets out of the community😱
And he does it for free. Microsoft doesn't pay the old man anything and most gamers disagree with his comments 😂
@obscured: “I rather have Hellblade II truth to its roots. I rather be Amazon owner guess what your wish and my nether are happening ,there’s no such thing as a perfect game as you describe it.
I would say atmosphere is a huge part of this graphics are a big part of that. But it's not the whole thing. I hope there's more to the gameplay than the original. I gave up on it before the story could really hook me.
I always thought the game was a walking simulator *most* of the time. I mean calling it a game is a stretch. Sure it has the glossy graphics and atmosphere, but beyond that, there's just nothing there. She jogs through the woods at an octogenarian's pace and solves illusion puzzles. That's about the gist of it. Sure there's a bit of combat if you consider slashing the same identical figures a few time here and there combat. The gameplay didn't have no depth but I finally realize that they wasn't aiming for that. I always thought the first game was overhyped and overrated. The graphics has always been the selling point and the reason to play it. I'm glad the second game will be on PC gamepass so that I don't have to pay $70 dollars to play it.
You never played the first game and you won´t be playing the second either!
I can´t wait for Hellblade II to drop, so we can see your benchmarks since you said you´ll be running it at 4K/60-120fps. Lol
Already got my popcorn ready. Just one month to go!
What are you talking about he's summed up the gameplay loop perfectly. I bet when the game was a PS4 exclusive you even called it or walking simulator. You have no credibility here.
This game is going to flop so massively.
A decade of anticipation and development.
Only to receive a message a couple weeks ago that gamers shouldn't expect the game to be very long.
Sure, it's going to be the most successful X-box exclusive this generation, but that isn't saying much.
10 years ago you could distract people with having a pretty picture on screen, you didn't need much in terms of gameplay / length.
But now? You can dress up a pig as much as you want, it still is a pig.
The fact that we haven't seen ANY real gameplay videos says more than enough regarding this.
Only pre-rendered "Gameplay" videos.
This generation is truly a sad one.
From both Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
"10 years ago you could distract people with having a pretty picture on screen, you didn't need much in terms of gameplay / length."
The Order: 1886 came out nearly a decade ago, in 2015, and pretty picture on screen was not enough even back then.
Pretty sure Order 1886 was actually a pretty good game but it was waaaaaaaay too short, that's why it failed.
Oh man...I forgot how good The Order: 1886 was - it was sure a fun time and looked absolutely stunning but holy hell it was simply too short and I'm so glad I ended up not buying it. I rented it and finished it over the course of a weekend and didn't have much desire to just go play it again. If I recall, there wasn't at all much one could do as far as exploration either and maybe had a random collectible tucked away in corners, that's it.
@JusttJD0099
"Pretty sure Order 1886 was actually a pretty good game but it was waaaaaaaay too short, that's why it failed."
And I´m "pretty sure" that you never played that game also. That game been "short" has nothing to do with "why it failed". FYI that game sold 1.6+ million copies which is far from a failure.
1886 has many flaws regarding level design, gameplay, combat and how all those elements interact combined. I´d loved the setting, graphics, atmosphere, plot and the characters. And I hate how fast Sony dumped RAD and put that franchise on ice.
The Order had the potential to be Sony´s response to Gears of War, but just like they did with Days Gone, they rather measure one game´s success based on Metascores. Smh.
@JusttJD0099
I would also add awful boss battles (those werewolves - ugh) and the ending was very meh.
Other than that, i did enjoy the game, the graphics, the world, the gun play... But yeah, also very short, got platinum in 8h total without trying much or following guides.
Its visuals have to be pretty much spotless at this point to make up for the lack of engaging gameplay not to mention story that have to hit all the right notes and then its potential lack of replayability.
I learned from cinematic games like these is that if the story not up to snuff then the game pretty much not worth replay through again.
In this day and age, I'm surprised that we still have games like this as the gap between not as cinematic one and cinematic game like Hellblade 2 are no longer big, not like back in 7th gen.
It takes far more effort now just to wow us with these push for filmic photorealistic visuals.
So many studios big and small so obsessed at getting their cinematic games' visuals to look right to the point they forgot they still have to do Gaming part of it.
"This game is going to flop so massively."
Only in the minds of those spiteful fanboys that wouldn´t be able to play it.
The first Hellblade had an all time peak of 5,653 concurrent players on STEAM. I´m positive that even been available on PC Gamepass day one, Hellblade II will easily beat that number and you´ll be called out on your bs predictions.
"A decade of anticipation and development.
Only to receive a message a couple weeks ago that gamers shouldn't expect the game to be very long."
A decade?! What the F* are you talking about?!
The first Hellblade was released back in August 2017 and development for Hellblade II started 2 years later!
Where did you get that "A decade of anticipation and development." BS? Why are you here spreading lies about a game you don´t know sh!t about?
"The fact that we haven't seen ANY real gameplay videos says more than enough regarding this.
"Only pre-rendered "Gameplay" videos."
Lmao!
That line is nothing but further proof that you never played Hellblade in your life! The game is focused on REALISM and IMMERSION, genius!
There´s NO VISIBLE HUD AT ALL!
IT´S ALL GAMEPLAY RUNNING ON AN ACTUAL XBOX SERIES X!!!
It´s baffling how some dumb and arrogant people believes they´re in a position of authority to talk about subjects they have zero knowledge of!
Next time you go out running your mouth spreading lies and misinformation, make sure you made your homework first!
We'll see when it drops. I'll say this, based on how 1 played prepare to be disappointed lol.
"FYI that game sold 1.6+ million copies which is far from a failure."
Nice. So FF7 Rebirth or 16 for that matter, are doing just fine. Aye Observer 👀 👍🏽Thanks for telling the truth.
"Nice. So FF7 Rebirth or 16 for that matter, are doing just fine. Aye Observer 👀 👍🏽Thanks for telling the truth."
Always my pleasure.
And just to put things into perspective; By the time of its release, The Order: 1886 were a new IP from a relatively unknown and unproved studio. The game sits at a 63 Metascore.
The PS4 had 20+ Million consoles sold after 1 year and 3 months in the market.
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, is well known, highly regarded as one of the most prominent RPG of ALL TIMES, by one of the most beloved and traditional gaming studio in the market. Rebirth also ranks at the same 92 Metascore as the original.
By the time of its release, the PS5 had sold 50+ Million consoles after 3 years and 3 months in the market.
I´m sure you can connect the dots.
Have a good week.
""FYI that game sold 1.6+ million copies which is far from a failure."
Releases between PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch then Series S/X is absolutely 💯 a failure. That's 450+ million gamers between all the platforms and it barely sold anything
I would generally agree with the article to be fair.
I enjoyed the original well enough but the puzzles and combat were excruciatingly repetitive.
If the gameplay hasn't advanced then that is going to be really disappointing.
I always thought the gameplay and story was mediocre in the first game but the graphics was phenomenal. I also remember the first game was really short.
You never played! Stop with your bs lies.
It´s so easy to see through your lies. You never talk about ANY game in details and profundity. It´s always the same old, repetitive, dumb, vague and generic comments.
I´m pretty sure if made you specific questions about that game, you won´t be able to answer because... well; you won´t be able to find the answers on the internet so easily. XD
Come on! Prove me wrong!
A closer look at Ninja Theory's state-of-the-art graphics.
Will look best on PC with 60fps can't wait!
i think there will be some RT - PT mods like they did with horizon games etc
Hellblade 2 and Squadron 42 looks like a real next gen games hope to see a release date soon.
It runs in 964p on the Series X/S. What a joke. PC is definitely the way to go for this game
"It runs in 964p on the Series X/S. What a joke. PC is definitely the way to go for this game"
*NATIVE* 964p up to 1070p on a UE5 powered game which has all of its features like MetaHuman, Nanite, Lumen and Virtual Shadow Maps. And you called it a joke?!
And you claim to be a PC GAMER?!
I think you lie through your teeth.
When Hellblade II finally releases, I want to see benchmarks from your PC and have a good laugh!
Just wait for it.
@Obscure_Observer
You're definitely reaching now. Desperate comment on your part. Everyone knows PC is the way to go if you want to play it in 60fps. The UE5 engine excuse is getting old. Remnant 2 is using UE5 and it also has a 60fps option and the game looks great. GTFO liar which you're good at. It's getting embarrassing reading your comments most of the time 😂
https://www.ign.com/article...
By the way Black Myth Wukong will also have a 60fps option on consoles using UE5 😂 and the developer already mentioned it.
https://m.youtube.com/watch...
@Sonic1881
Everyone knows that ports for modern PC will ALWAYS be superior when compared to consoles, genius. Especially compared to 4 year old consoles which is not even fair. Only insecure weirdos needs to constantly keep talking about it.
That said, no *every* PC will do it. And I doubt you´re a PC gamer in the first place due your very dumb and clueless comments regarding technology and gaming.
Nobody will find you on PC only related topics, but in console topics cheerleading PS5 games and trashing *every single* Xbox game.
You don´t love games at all, all you love is a plastic box which I don´t even believe in your claims to own.
Just prove me wrong and just show us your benchmarks when Hellblade II gets released. I´ll wait.
can we just stop with the sounding like a broken record? ps5/switch games also run better on pc because DRUMROLL, pc's have stronger hardware.
"You don´t love games at all, all you love is a plastic box which I don´t even believe in your claims to own."
I already prove to a few people that I own a PC a few years back and they still didn't believe it. A matter of fact I've played with some of the user's on here on N4G that only owns a PC 😀. I also have a active steam account and the last game I played on it was Dragon's Dogma 2, Helldivers, and Baldur Gate 3. Anything else Obscure_Observer. Btw I also own a Nintendo switch and PS5
You are the joke. You say the same thing on every Xbox article always pushing the negative in your comments. Once in awhile I’ll see something sensible from you but mostly just trash comments.
Does it really destroy your world about how many frames or resolution game has ? Just because you hate Xbox doesn’t mean you have to bring in the negative into every article.
Game looks amazing and enjoyable and that what counts in the end.
I honestly dont have much interest in this. Its all pretty much pre rendered. Its not so much a game than an interactive movie. It somehow rubs me the wrong way because while I dont have an issue with games like Heavy Rain I feel that this is acting like its something its not. It tries to be a normal videogame but it really is not. As opposed to interactive games that focus on choices. Im sure this will be an ok game, but nothing that would make me want to spend money on.
Do all these people disagreeing with you actually think the game won’t look better on pc at 60fps?!
Or are they just console fan boys who refuse to accept that games on a $400 console will look and perform worse than on a $3000 pc.
@Espangerish
"Or are they just console fan boys who refuse to accept that games on a $400 console will look and perform worse than on a $3000 pc."
Assuming that you have a $3000 Rig, absolutely. But there´s lots a lying clowns here claiming to be PC gamers with very expensive and powerful machines, and yet, by their clueless comments alone it´s easier for anyone with minimal technical knowledge to spot a liar.
Any person that is in fact a PC gamer and PLAY actual games, knows that UE5 has incredibly high resource usage.
Now let clueless idiots call a joke, trash, unacceptable and a "blurry mess" the most resourceful and feature-rich UE5 game to date, running at internal resolution and performance of 1070p at 30fps on a 4 year old console which still can´t take advantage of more modern PC resources like FSR 3?
Digital Foundry literally is calling Hellblade II the most beautiful UE5 game to date and technical Marvel, but here you have a bunch of jealous liars sh!ting on the game just because it´s not available on their favorite plastic box.
I call them liars, because real PC gamers would be happy about a game which do nothing other to make their investments on a very expensive rig, worthwhile. Taking full advantage of it. Even if such game/genre is not their thing.
I think 60fps will actually cheapen the experience imo. I know 30 fps isn’t usually ideal but in this case makes it feel more like a movie, which is cool imo. 60 fps is good for sims and competitive games imo but I’m ok with 30 fps on games like this. I say this having a pc that can easily run anything at 4k/60 (2x 4090s)
Once you play games in 60fps or 120fps, It's hard to ever go back to 30fps. Lucky for me I can play this game in 60fps on PC🙌🏻
According to digital foundry, Hellblade 2 runs at 964p to 1070p at 30fps on series x
Say hello to UE5 gaming on 4 year old APUs.
But you can cherry pick the stats for or against, on your TV its probably still going to be the best looking console game yet.
No way, not from some cheap free tools unreal engine 5. This no sony high production game with its own custom engine, its a low funded cheap free unreal engine tools game.
Too many sacrifices. All this for graphics.
I dunno if it's worth it tbh.
@Hear wtf does that have to do with Sony!?
Oh had the numbers moved from 75% no one told me, needs an article don’t you think?
“ That's according to documents from the recent court leaks from Microsoft vs. FTC. A heavily redacted document from the case shows that nearly 75%, 74.8% to be exact, of Xbox Series owners own a Series S.” sept' 2023
or did you mean 60percent less powerful so 60% worse?
@darth I still don’t get it
You give me too much credit for being clever, when infact I am extraordinarily inept
All the post processing isnt making things any better either, you can see the environments just look blurry and faded. Senuas model looks very impressive but everything else just screams budget title.
According to Digital Foundry:
"This is a profoundly improved sequel and a game that is generationally advanced beyond its predecessor."
"Hellblade 2 is just on another level in almost every respect in terms of core technology."
"...and is possibly even a bit ahead of Hellblade 2's first gameplay trailer."
"This could be the very best looking Unreal Engine 5 title out there"
N4G's takeway: 1070p30fps off cheap free UE5.
I can see on this on the Series S but on the Series X? That's just horrible & unacceptable.
The Order and Death Stranding doesn't belong to interactive movie category.
Until Dawn and Detroit sure does.
Those games are almost ALL gameplay with choices that affect the end game. They include movie cuts to help tell the story.
This “game” is almost ALL movie with sprinkles of linear walking paths.
Holy Shit. First submitting an article..after that writing the first comment about it and praising the game, after that replying to yourself, praising the game even more..and after that defending the game and coming up with other games when someone points out it will be more like an interactive movie.
Sorry, can't take you serious any longer.
All the games you mentioned had more gameplay than hellblade 1...so no. Especially death stranding....you are so incredibly off the mark there. Some of the games you mention have branching storylines based on your choices....that's a lot more than a simple interactive movie...
Stop being disingenuous...
Curious to know how you have arrived at that conclusion when so little gameplay has been shown off jwillj2k4.
How about showing Ninja Theory some respect and acknowledging the hard work and talent required to make this game.
Real people worked really hard on this game and you choose to act like a 5 year old. Wait to play the game before you start with your criticism. Even then, if you don't like it that doesn't mean others wont, just accept it wasnt for you and move on, as it stand you just seem super ill informed and spiteful.
First off, categorizing does not equal criticism stop trying to gaslight.
Secondly, the “game” has been worked on for 7+ years and is only about 7 hours long, is about to release in a month, has only shown movie cuts and LINEAR WALKING PATHS as “gameplay”, (did I mention comes out in a month?) and has a price matching a AA game.
Did you forget the multiple no shows at various E3’s and then finally showing up only to give us more movie cuts advertised as “gameplay”?
Nothing is wrong with the above, however based on what little they’ve shown this “game”, it is a walking experience not an actual game title. They’ve substituted movie equipment for Unreal engine.
Dear God Obscure, you haven't played it squire, how about being objective just for once!
I get being excited, but to call something we know relatively little about a masterpiece without even playing it is ridiculous.
"I get being excited, but to call something we know relatively little about a masterpiece without even playing it is ridiculous."
Never see you calling anyone out by referring to a Playstation game as GOTY or Masterpiece, prior release.
So give me a break and spare me from your hypocrisy.
Because I have never seen any one individual behave the way you do here, you are such a negative force here on N4G, I only wish we still had the bubble system.
Don´t give a flying f* about what you think about me, dude. No sure why you even replied to my comment in the first place.
*You* are the negative force here. I´m an Xbox fan and this is an Xbox topic, an exciting one. And unsurprisingly you here full of salt playing the hype police.
GTFO and just refrain from ever reply to me again.
He's simply his excited for the game. You being angry over his excitement says allot more about you than it does him.
His "behavior" with this comment is "unacceptable" because he's getting excited over a game that's not in your favorite box.
You're definitely wrong in this scenario. Instead of admitting you're wrong here I'm sure you'll spin this in some miraculous deflection stating how he's still wrong.
I don't even pay attention to what Observer says at times but again, you're definitely wrong in this scenario.
They might be. Both come off as ridiculous. They didn't praise the 1st game anywhere near as much...it's blatantly obvious what they're doing
Lol both of you are really sick
just getting rekt and envious of something
you are both sony fanboys downplaying anything not from sony in this site
and lol @Crow
I have finished Hellblade 1 multiple times on PC and praised the game on different sites both of you making yourself look stupid and you are, pls seek help.
A masterpiece at 8 hrs or less including you never played Hellblade 2... Smh.
LMAO!! No review scores yet nor do you have a copy to make a claim of H2 being a masterpiece.

Sounds like Xbox was the one needing a Pro console
UE5 can run up to 120 FPS in open world on console. So one imagines, that this game is probably GPU bound the dynamic range also gives it away in the circumstance. So what it boils down to is how good UE5 runs on a dual issue GPU... I will go do some research but more likely given the same resolution the PS5 pro could deliver 60 FPS or close to it. With PSSR it could deliver 4K 60 no problem. (This would be upscaled from 1080p). Some caveats I would mention is we haven't seen PSSR yet. Is it inline with something like DLSS. Can it reduce the softness of the title on Xbox? This all assume UE5 wouldn't take advantage of RNDA 4 dual issue.
I suppose the game isn't finished yet though, Ninja Theory may still polish some of those rough edges yet, maybe?
"Sounds like Xbox was the one needing a Pro console"
Literally no point because they will still be tied down by the Series S
Congratulations, out of loads and loads of positive things eurogamer had to say about the visuals you got your notebook and pen out and found 7 negatives. You deserve a mickey mouse badge.
Here we go with it can't look great or its just interactive movie because its getting some praise every game is an interactive movie but ur the director a gamevtells a story like movie and u control character to reach outcome of story interactive movie pls give up with moron comments and show me a ps5 unreal 5 game running in a high resolution pls hurry iam waiting u know y cos u can't so stop hating on something none of played and stop being critical of ppl who actually have
I agree folk need to give the benefit of the doubt and are even justified in being excited because the game really does look great.
But I think overhyping every MS release is equally as frustrating to many gamers. You know its just the extremist fringes of the gaming community who are being negative, right? You are better off ignoring these idiots, I am a playstation guy personally, we aren't all headcases, most people are rational.
Thank you its nice to see a rational comment on here I own both consoles myself and a lot ppl shit on ronin I decided to try for myself and not listen to ppl and iam loving it I don't bash the game for its graphics or framerate or whatever else ppl hate on certain games if I enjoy the game that's good enough for me and if u don't like that's okay as well but to hate on game none of us has played it just silly
Glad to hear Ronin is decent mate, it's high on my list to play next as I have been hooked on Shogun on Disney and need more! I grew up playing games through the 80s and I think this made me super chilled about graphics and performance, one benefit of being and old fart I guess😄
Have a great day squire
The first Hellblade had low resolution running on the PS4 Pro at 720p, it seems the resolution running on the XBSX is low as well. Seeing this game has a visual upgrade but the resolution being so low is a turn-off for me. At this day in time if the game is running at 30fps the game should be visually appealing at 4k or very close to 4k. 964p to 1070p is just blurry & unacceptable on a large 4k screen. Again..I'll demo the game through Gamepass to see what it's giving.
"At this day in time if the game is running at 30fps the game should be visually appealing at 4k or very close to 4k. 964p to 1070p is just blurry & unacceptable on a large 4k screen."
I don´t think you ever played a UE5 powered game in your life to describe a game which *native* resolutions ranges from 964p and 1070p in *2024* as "blurry & unacceptable", otherwise, you would know what TSR and FSR2 main functions are. I don´t even think you have any idea what Nanite is and what it does.
Try to get yourself informed first before you go out spreading misinformation. Because in this case, you´re fooling no one but yourself.
You can defend this XB exclusive & your love for it all you want but any game running at 964p or at 1070p on a fab 65 & 75 inch 4k tv looks like a blurry mess. From the Digital Foundry video I just saw the resolution looks dull instead of pristine, sharp & crystal clear.
"You can defend this XB exclusive & your love for it all you want but any game running at 964p or at 1070p on a fab 65 & 75 inch 4k tv looks like a blurry mess."
No it´s not! This is not last gen. TAA, MSAA, SMAA and TAA are things of the past. This has nothing to do with console X or Y.
Unlike previous gens where every single pixel were rendered, modern rendering technology focus on superior pixel count to deliver high quality textures and will only render pixels that is *visible* to you.
So the last thing you´ll see is Hellblade II on Series X been described as "just blurry & unacceptable", because that´s not what Digital Foundry said in this preview at all!
Again, do yourself a favor and get yourself informed. Or just keep playing ignorant for some weird reason beyond logic, because your comments and opinions doesn´t make any sense.
You said you didn´t like the first game and have zero interest in this one. Now "you know" that it´s going to be a blurry and an unacceptable mess on your TV, but you still getting it?
I´m 100% positive that you´ll have better options to play on both PS5 and Switch when Hellblade II gets released. So why bother?
Doesn´t make any sense at all. It´s insane actually.
Your ranting of defending this game seems to have you confused. I never stated I was " getting it" I clearly stated I will demo H2 through Gamepass. Again...for the umpteenth time 964p & 1070p looks blurry on a expensive huge 4k TV. The image will look soft & dull , the image will not look pristine vividly sharp & crystal clear. I watched the DF video & the images looked soft & dull, the images in the background looked dull as well. You're just going all out trying to defend H2 solely because it's an XB exclusive. You will not sway what I've seen when it comes to the images & resolution of Hellblade 2.
"I will demo H2 through Gamepass."
Lol
You gonna play it! Nobody would waste their precious time with an "unacceptable blurry mess of a game." Especially day one!
You have TONS of games to play on the consoles you claim to love, if you´re saving the date and making out of Hellblade II any sort of priority on May 21, it´s because you can´t wait for it! Period!
"You will not sway what I've seen when it comes to the images & resolution of Hellblade 2."
If you were telling the true, you would not bother with that game at all.
There you go again ranting & defending H2 so much that you're delusional including trying to put words in my mouth. Again..for the umpteenth time I've stated that I will demo the game to see what H2 is giving...basically demo Hellblade 2 is to see if it's still boring including seeing if H2 looks blurry running on my XBSX. I never said when I will download the game. I have a yearly subscription to Gamepass & I'm playing P3;Reload through GP including I have tons of current games on my PS5 to play. So...I have plenty of time to demo H2. Got it? or like they say Kapeesh??
Hellblade 2 will run at a dynamic resolution on Xbox Series X|S, and the console version will not support a 60 fps mode.
It seems like the console version could support a 40fps mode though... if they add 120hz support.
You make a good point. I think 40 FPS options will become more common once 120hz TVs become more standardized.
That's conjecture on your part, you don't even know if the game can hold 30 FPS yet.
Its looking more and more like it was a design decision. which is to say they only wanted everything set to the best quality while providing that 'cinematic' experience of an epic big budget movie. How many big theatrical movies do you know that are 60fps?
Ive played the first game at 60 and while it makes things faster... it also breaks the mood and flow of the game. so I set it back to quality mode where it just feels better. Its not GoW... so its okay that it is slower paced.
@darthv72 You're trying to turn 30fps into some kind of positive when in reality it's just that the devs couldn't hit 60 consistently. There's a difference between saying 60 isn't needed and trying to gaslight people into believing it's some kind of win for the game.
And that's the other thing- games aren't films. Where 28fps is fine for films we've long since moved on from 30 being the standard here.
I'm open to being corrected here but I'm pretty sure that only Sony have gone the 40fps route so far, I see little evidence that they'll even entertain the thought
Welcome to actual UE5 gaming on the current gen.
Less impressive looking and less feature rich UE5 games are already running at an internal 720p to hit 60fps.
If only we had a 33.5 tf console to to run all these graphically demanding games.
@Einhander lol go ahead and buy into that lie with that 33TF thing and be highly disappointed when it comes out ..
What’s the point of the Series X being the worlds most powerful console if they are clearly just going to be held back by the Series S…and you know for a fine fact that’s the real reason why.
The S isnt holding it back... there is no fidelity or performance parity in use here. If anything, if it did offer a performance mode they would push for that on the X while keeping the S in its singular quality mode like other games have done. This is more of a CPU issue than a GPU one.
Hellblade 2 seems like it will be much heavier on the GPU side than the CPU side.
"What’s the point of the Series X being the worlds most powerful console if they are clearly just going to be held back by the Series S…and you know for a fine fact that’s the real reason why."
One real and also interesting fact, is that there wasn´t nothing holding the PS5 back to harm Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart´s development. I remember how some PS fans used to scream at the top of their lungs how that game is a true next gen game only possible on PS5 and blah blah blah.
And now we know that game (among many other Playstation games on PC) can run even on the Steam Deck which is weaker then the Series S.
It is what it is.
Wait a minute.
Didn't DF debunk all of those "R&C could run on PS4/without SSD" comments because they've tested it with various settings?
Just asking. Not stating.
ahahahahaha @purple101 nice one, Obscure you got owned right there :D
It is what it is ahahahahahaha
@purple I think youtube one doesn't use the SteamDeck's SSD rather micro SD card which obviously will be slower.
There's a difference between running and running the way the developer intended. Batman Arkham Knight and Mortal Kombat 1 "run" on the Nintendo Switch, but clearly at a cost. Ratchet and Clank runs on Steamdeck, but you're outputting at 720fps with reduced image quality and no raytracing. So it's impressive, absolutely, but don't sit there and act like it's 1 to 1 parity just because you can't grasp how the Series S holds back the generation. Hint: the Series X cannot massively outdo the Series S because of console parity, so it's unlikely the Series X is going to ever be utilised to its fullest.
You want to push up with a Pro model, not push down.
@Tody... and yet there are plenty of games that offer better visuals and performance on the X than the S. The whole 'parity' thing is about the content... not the fidelity or performance. Which is why things like raytracing is not in S games but is in the X versions. Same with offering various modes for quality and performance on X but not on S.
At the time of its release there was no technology available that could do what the ps5 ssd can do. As time went on, naturally, technology advanced. Why some people don’t understand time progression is baffling. Its like you’re sub-human or something less intelligent.
Mods I didn’t call him that, just saying he resembles/looks familiar to.
@darth72 What you and Observer fail to grasp is the development starting point. With a PS5 Pro, all games would be developed for the base PS5 as intended, and then enhanced for the Pro. The benchmark is the PS5 console. The PS5 is mandatory, the Pro is not.
With the Xbox Series S and X, the benchmark is ALWAYS going to be the INFERIOR console from the getgo, the Series S is mandatory. The Xbox X is supposed to be the base model of the generation, but thanks to the S it's never going to be. It's anchored down. Whereas a PS5 Pro would not anchor any development because it's not a different console, and it's not the benchmark of development.
Hence PS5 exclusives will always outdo Xbox Ones. That and developer talent I suppose. The Xbox Series X is never going to be fully utilised.
Why is that hardcore xbox fanbots like you are the embodiment of anti-truth? The poster boys of hypocrisy.
"7 years in development for just 30fps 🤔"
It took 12 years to develop Dragon´s Dogma 2 which runs at 30fps on both PS5 and XS and you were championing that game just the other day.
Such hypocrisy.
I can´t wait to see your lame excuses for GT6 also after 12 years in development to deliver a 30fps performance on both current gen consoles. It´s gonna be funny.
@Obscure
If you did proper research you’d see that they had the idea 12 years ago for Dragons Dogma 2. Dragons Dogma 2 hasn’t been in development for 12 years..
Took them five years to develop

@Obsecure
Dumbest comment so far and Capcom is a 3rd party. Developed for 12 years? You really believe THAT?
So, ok I'll play your game. Starfield was developed for 25 years and only 30fps on the series consoles.
@Flakegriffin
"Took them five years to develop"
Hellblade II was announced back in December 2019 as an *early in development* game, so it didn´t took 7 years in development either.
It will be released on May which accounts for less than 5 years since announcement.
I think a game like this that is essentially an interactive movie is fine at 30fps. Should have little impact on gameplay and is more focused on visuals and atmosphere anyway
"60 FPS Mode Not Supported In Favor Of “Cinematic” Experience" - The Failed Movie Director Syndrome strikes again... Awesome.
Well, while they're at it, why don't they just make the game run at 24fps? Might as well make it truly Cinematic...
how many big movies have you seen at 60fps? My tv offers a feature called trumotion and it looks cool for animated films but makes regular movies look like crap. Not every game needs 60. Only action, racing, shooting and fighting games need 60 because those are all fast paced. RPG, puzzle, adventure... those are slow and 30 is perfect.
I don't mind 30fps when and if the Gamplay requires it and not because the Graphics are so Life-Like it's tanking performance.
If your Gameplay is so out there, so impressive, so unique, so intricate that you have no other choice but to drop the game to 30fps? Then I'm OK with that. No problem. On the other hand, if the gameplay is laughably a nothingburger, like the first Hellblade, and all you're doing is spending all of your studio's time and money on the Graphics, so much so that you have to drop your game to 30fps? Fok off. Go get a job at Pixar or whatever.
Now a days good and even great graphics are achievable by great Art Direction, Shaders, Modeling, Animation and most importantly, the Light Rig. Go see how great the first Three Splinter Cells still look on the OG XBOX. And if you manage to make it look Photo Realistic without sacrificing Performance, cool. If not? Learn to scale back and optimize and learn to spec your games better. Simple.
This ain't Hollywood, this is the Games industry. Gameplay is King and Graphics are meant to complement it and not the other way around.
“ RPG, puzzle, adventure... those are slow and 30 is perfect.”
I disagree. Recently replayed Witcher and Cyberpunk in 60fps and the experience was better. Gaming isn’t passive like watching a movie. I whip my camera around a lot. 30fps judder doesn’t support my playstyle.
Can't compare a movies framerate to a games, ones passive the other is interactive, you don't just see the frames, you feel them in your inputs, it's a disingenuous argument.
Funny you mention splinter cell... those were 30fps slow paced stealth games. Very cinematic for their time that still hold up well. This game will do the same.
I guess you missed the part where I said: "If your Gameplay is so out there, so impressive, so unique, so intricate that you have no other choice but to drop the game to 30fps? Then I'm OK with that. No problem. "
Splinter Cell on the OG Xbox was something else. Next Gen before Next Gen. And it wasn't simply because it looked good, in fact, the models where not the best, but because the Lights and Sound changed how the game is actually played. Gameplay > Graphics. It so happens that in this case, the advancement of Graphics - The Light System they Used - actually enhanced the Gameplay beyond any other game before it. So the sacrifice is warranted.
Now, if the game had looked like the PS2/Gamecube version, then I wouldn't have brought them up, since they are NOTHING like the OG XBOX version. Not even close. Those could've been 60fps since the Light Rig in those games don't actually change anything.
So my main point with Splinter Cell was that the Light System you use makes THAT much of a difference. Where a lot of games from that Generation look kinda Flat, even with great 3D modeling, the Splinter Cell series can fool a few people in this day and age by looks alone.
This the thing, while Snake was hiding in Boxes or small Bushes while changing his Camouflage in the Option Menu, Splinter Cell was letting you live the life of a modern day Assassin, Hitman, Operative, Ninja by using the Light and Sound System in a more advance way. This was the evolution of what games like Thief started.
And speaking of Thief, the advance Sound system in that game actually enhances AND changes the entire gameplay, by making your steps not only sound different but by changing the Sound Waves and how far they travel through the level in order to alert guards and NPCs. Next Gen stuff that we hardly use nowadays. If we do at all. Pity.
You can even add stuff like Physics to this as well. Where games like Red Faction or Teardown changes the gameplay dramatically because of how the Physics and Collision work. Again, since the Gameplay is the one taking precedent and benefiting because of it, then it's ok to bump down to 30fps in order to experience the new gameplay concepts.
Like I said, if the advancement in graphics help the Gameplay achieve Next Level, then cool. But in Hellblade, nothing they have shown, gameplay-wise, is enhanced by having movie quality graphics. It looks to have the same generic fighting mechanics from the first one. And THAT, to me, is a problem.
all the things you mention... lighting, physics, sound... you hold those games in high esteem for that yet you dont for this. Why? the first is held in high regard for its ambient sound which many say you need to use headphones to get the full effect. This new version expands upon that while upping the lighting, physics and aureal density to make it even more deep an experience than the first. Its as if you are passing judgement without even experincing it for yourself.
I get it... if you did not like the first then this is more of the same. Why not just be honest and say that without resorting to insulting their vision but make excuses for other games that had similar visions.
Again, the point is that if the actual gameplay is being affected, then sure, but if it's just a visual aesthetic thing, then no.
"to make it even more deep an experience than the first." This is how you're missing the point. This deep experience could've been achieved with a less performance intensive style. Since none of what Hellblade is doing gameplay-wise, based on the ACTUAL gameplay shown, is being affected by how pretty or realistic it looks. None of it is. Plenty of games are doing more with less.
"Why not just be honest and say that without resorting to insulting their vision but make excuses for other games that had similar visions" Because I find these type of games lacking and misguided. And that's my opinion based on what I see games should strive to be.
Would you rather experience a Dragon coming down, blowing stuff up, smashing the shet out of everything, fighting some army, some other titan, and whatever else in a cinematic? Or would you rather experience the entire thing in real time? Would you rather watch Joel make the decision to save Ellie or would you rather make that decision yourself? Would you rather play as Ellie while she goes down the path of Violence by killing everyone in sight, or would you rather it be left up to you? See where I'm going with this?
Take Bethesda games for example. This whole idea of Protecting Important NPCs is a massive step backwards. The fact that they took away the freedom to kill important quest givers was a massive blow to how I approach every situation now. Cuz there's no dangerous situations anymore. You will never lose anything. See what I mean?
So would you rather just be passive there until some gameplay loop shows up or would you rather take part in everything happening? I know I want full control of the experience. I want to be able to affect the worlds and characters and I want the world and characters to not only react to me but to also try to change me, manipulate me and interact with me. What I don't want is THE MOST AMAZING THING THAT HAPPENS!!!! happens in a cinematic. Or if it's happening, it is happening all the way over there while I hardly affect anything or not even interact with it.
I want for the eventual full integration of everything Cinematic into the Gameplay proper. No more movies, no more walking sections, no more QTE, no more seeing the obvious hands of the devs telling me what I can or cannot do at any one moment. No more anything of that sort. I want full interactivity and actual advance AI. True Next Gen.
There have been many games that have brought forward game mechanics that are, quite honestly, game changing. Take what games like Hitman, Alpha Protocol, Deus Ex, Breath of the Wild, Soulborne, Sherlock Holmes, and others, and put the money in those types of game mechanics. Start small, build upon it, make sure to always reuse your assets in order to save money, and make that the priority. In the end, the graphics will eventually catch up and blow our minds away. But I gotta tell you, from a gameplay perspective? Gaming has been mostly stale for way too long now. Too many "Cinematic" experiences and too many Copypasta game mechanics... uBeSawft...
And no, I'm not talking about Mario, or Sonic, or Tetris or games like that. They certainly have their place. I'm not advocating for ALL gaming to be how I envision them. Just the ones that are pretending without actually trying, cuz AAAA has to be Cinematic!!! or cuz AAAA Graphics!!! cost too much money, or whatever, so the gameplay and interactivity must be sacrifice!
But to each their own.
UE5 seems to be a CPU hog and given graphics fidelity, I expected 30 FPS. For those who want better there is the PC version.
I really think developers should optimise for 40fps fidelity options. Insomniac are really technical wizards and despite preferring 60fps in every single game I played, Spider-Man 2 was the first game where I actually settled on the 40fps option with VRR and 120hz as the best of all worlds.
Closer to topic though, I don't understand how this game couldn't have a performance mode. I mean, it's not the PS3 and 360 era where they can sell this "it's more cinematic" idea to us, surely.
And if it's Unreal 5, maybe the engine just isn't well optimised like its predecessors.
If they can’t run it at 60 cuz of using that UE5 feature set, just say that. If you wanna play it off like an “artistic” decision then why did the first Hellblade have a 60FPS mode. Cuz in terms of art and mood it’s the same universe.
the first didnt have a 60fps mode initially... that wasnt added until the Pro/one X came out and they put it in later as an option. the majority who played the original did so at the original 30fps cinematic presentation it was meant to be.
Do you mean cinematic presentation it RELEASED at?
If it was meant to be 30fps, the developers wouldn’t have made a 60fps patch… right?
From memory UE5 and UE engines in general don't have the greatest CPU optimisation. So I'm guessing it's a CPU bottleneck caused by lack have optimisation of the engine.
"Ninja Theory founder Tameem Antoniades left Microsoft. It’s unknown whether this was due to creative differences between him and Microsoft"
Wait, wait, wait!!! It can't possibly be creative differences between him and Microsoft. We've been repeatedly told that Microsoft, Phil Spencer are anyone at Xbox would interfere with First Party Development. "First Party Developers make the games they want to make"....they said.
Tameem Antoniades leaving would explain why this little 6-8hr game game took well over 5yrs for the 3 Trillion dollar Corporation to complete. Seems every Microsoft First Party Studio is in the mist of a dumpster fire for 3-4yrs now.
Didnt y’all want next gen games? This is what UE5 does with current gen consoles. It was announced at this framerate running a damn tech demo on PS5.
If you want 60fps next gen games, wait for pro / mid-gen upgrades. Machines can’t keep up with this engine.
Or have developers develop their own engines.
I'm of the side that doesn't really care. I like it when games offer a choice but I dont treat them any differently if there isnt one. A good game is still a good game and you are only going to know if its good by playing it yourself.
Unacceptable
They put way more emphasis on graphics, fidelity and presentation over everything else I understand that but most of these types are 60fps. In fact I'm surprised it's 30 fps.
SF being 30 sure it's open world, I think redfall is 60 now but 30 at launch still unacceptable now. Most current gen games are being 30 I know that. With MS tech, money and time they should of gotten this at 60.
Maybe the game is doing allot, graphically they sacrificed 60?
Either way MS 100% has a feature complete problem in their games. Just yet another long laundry list of issues MS can't get right.
“What side are you on?”
60fps given the choice. Always.
I don´t care!
It´s a true next gen game after all!
Bring it!
