Xbox Profanity Filter Is Ruining the FFXIV Chat

The Xbox profanity filter is currently ruining the readability of the FFXIV chat on Xbox Series X/S due to censored words.

I'm not convinced this is the profanity filter. It doesn't make sense to censor words like class, harvest and dance. It seems to be a bug.

Well, FF14 itself has some pretty awful chat censoring so Xbox being in the same boat isn't too farfetched

Yeah these new fangled filters are going a bit too far. I have a game that filters "wtf". It's a censor for a self-censoring phrase. But I think overall it's how it should be. If you don't want certain language being used in your game by your player base, then it's up to you to filter/ censor the language you don't want. I can respect that. What I can't respect is when you say things that are not really offensive then you get ostracized for it.

This is completely false, I tested this on my son's child account and mine, this is not Microsoft censoring they will censor swears but not the combination of letters I can prove this with a screenshot where I use all mentioned words in the article but do not know how to upload a picture.

It's not xbox, go ahead start a chat with the youngest person on your friends list then say raid mass class sass said .... they do not censor any of these I even got away with R.Aids. sqaure on the other hand does.

I just logged on and tested it again after reading your comments. It's still 100% happening. Try using the /psych emote on an NPC.

If by some miracle the Xbox version is not censoring things for you, then that's great. But, you'd be the exception rather than the norm.

EDIT: wait... I just read your comments again and it sounds like you're talking about Xbox messages getting censored. This article isn't about that. It's talking about the Xbox's chat censorship meddling with what appears in the in-game chat log.

I appreciate your response, and yes I'm talking about xbox chat xbox messaging and chat windows in every other xbox mmo, final fantasy is absolutely doing this, my point was its not an xbox thing as it does not happen in fallout 76 or never winter or any other game with chat I tested.

Fallout 76 came out before Xbox rolled out their "Community Sift" artificial intelligence tool. Games older than a year or two likely aren't set up for it because it wasn't a thing yet. All signs are pointing to this censorship being an Xbox issue because other versions of Final Fantasy 14 are not subject to it and its behavior is not consistent with the game's own toggleable profanity filter.

For what it's worth, there are also instances of Xbox's auto-moderation actually banning people due to the AI tool being terrible. Just recently, there was a player who used the Xbox's "looking for group" function to make a post inviting people to join his Free Company in Final Fantasy 14. This wasn't done in-game or anything like that. Anyway, Xbox's AI tool decided that inviting people to a free company constituted some kind of solicitation and banned this guy's gamertag for 60 days. The guy tried to appeal the ban and was apparently denied. There are gaming news articles about that story too.
