Wow this almost makes Xbox look good
But when rest of the world, Europe, Africa and Asia are taken into account, it’s a massacre

Babadook7396d ago

Traditionally Xbox has been strongest in NA. I think Xbone was more competitive in the region.

IAMRealHooman396d ago

Japanese market for Microsoft been notoriously week, 360 was their strongest gen in the region. xbone basically flatlined, series s/x i s doing better, but if you combine every xbox generation in japans sales figures, their maybe over half of the ps5 sales.

@IAM
"series s/x i s doing better"
What I'm seeing on VGChartz seems to disagree. Xbox One was not a good generation for sales even in NA but it's still better than this gen LTD (Series). However I was referring to the gap between PS4 and One vs PS5 and Series. Last gen xbox was more competitive.

Thats a staggering sales gap in just one market.

PhillyDonJawn396d ago

It was tight in the US but ps5 starting to pull away. It's close in comparison to rest of world

StormSnooper395d ago

I wouldn’t call it “close” at all. Relatively speaking sure, but realistically? Not close at all. Remember back in the day, a mere 2 million worldwide difference used to be touted as a HUGE sales gap! This is just 1 market.

PhillyDonJawn395d ago (Edited 395d ago )

Back in the day when? 360/ps3? 360 destroyed ps3 in the USA. Ps3 made up for it world wide and shrunk the gap. So the ppl that was talking about the gap were mostly talking America it was around 12 million difference

StormSnooper394d ago (Edited 394d ago )

Destroyed? 360 launched one WHOLE year before PS3, but it was only 2 million units ahead WORLDWIDE. Then went on to surpass the 360.

Here we have is a sales gap of 5 1/2 million units in 1 country.

What a strange, but also impressive path of PS5's sales.

The first 1½ years, it massively suffered from shortages. As the Series did too.

Sales went down especially in Europe, where today it's behind the PS4 by about 4mill units.

Because Sony didn't want to lose to the Series in the US where the Series has always been the strongest historically, they shipped more units to the US than Europe for many months.

After 1½yrs, the PS5 then started to even outselling the PS4 globally.

Leading to being only like 800k units behind PS4 globally today (while still being 4mill units behind it in Europe).

What could have been if there were no shortages. I think total PS5 sales would be sitting at around 60 to 62mill now.

And now it's 2024.

The monthly sales ratio between Series and PS5 kept on growing (also because Series sales kept on falling). Total global sales is a 2:1 ratio, but over the last months it has actually been a 3.3:1 ratio monthly - the latest figures showing even a 3.8:1 ratio for the first week of March.

But then again Sony announced there won't be any first party releases until March 2025. So how will the next 12 months unfold in terms of hardware sales?

What a strange console generation.

''The PlayStation 5 is currently 1.27 million units ahead the PlayStation 4 in the US when you align launches, while the Xbox Series X|S is behind the Xbox One by 2.25 million.''

That's crazy.

Alos88395d ago

That gap is only going to widen over time most likely- there's a reason xbox is starting to go multiplatform.
