Is an uncapped 30 FPS a big deal?

I might wait to play this on the PS5 Pro

_SilverHawk_407d ago

The 30fps uncapped isn't a deal breaker at all for me and I'm ok playing a technologically advance game like this because of the quality used on the graphics, physics, animation, scale and other areas

Cacabunga406d ago (Edited 406d ago )

Not a big deal but still could be better... i think PS5 is capable of better performance.
Maybe a patch with performance mode coming in the future

PapaBop406d ago

30 fps won't stop me from enjoying a great game but it's still disappointing. I think for a game like this, a 60 fps performance mode should be considered something every developer should be pushing for. Maybe it's due to the current console limitations and the PS5 Pro can help fix this but I have a few friends who definitely would be turned off at playing at 30fps.

andy85407d ago

For those visuals, yes. It should be 4K/60 with a game that looks like it's from 2017 or earlier. More than enough games out I'll get it when the Pro is out.

neutralgamer1992407d ago

i think waiting in general now a days is a better more safer option. Just delaying the purchase for 3 months could mean better performance and with community feedback they can release patches so overall experience could end up being a lot better/smoother

RaidenBlack406d ago

Visuals aren't everything ... that's just GPU calculating ...
this game might be doing some serious CPU-heavy simulations ... who knows?
And its using the RE engine. We all know how good the cross-gen RE Village and 4 Remake looks as well as how well optimized those are.

Blad3runner00407d ago (Edited 407d ago )

Sadly PS5 does not have much headroom, if any, to brute force poor optimisation. If indeed thats what it is, bad optimisation, or perhaps the game is very CPU bound.

There are other games like Spiderman 2 and Forbidden West, which look better and run at 60fps, but I assume those games are more GPU bound.

Either that or its poor optimisation, and people shouldn’t have to be like “I will just wait for PS5 Pro” to make up for developer shortcomings.

From how the game looks on PC, the recommended requirements seem pretty high too, so seems like its just poor optimisation on the developers part.

Always give an option to lock the framerate, which looks like this game doesn’t have, which is baffling.

Sadly not all developers are on equal high footing when it comes to talent, effort levels, when it comes to optimisation.

Just hope this isn’t some sort of bad sign for the PC port.

Horizon and dogma are pretty similar in terms of scope. Interesting how dogma is piss poor performance wise

DivineHand125407d ago

None of us know the scope of Dragon's Dogma 2 without actually playing it. Also, we can't compare them as to this day I still don't know how they got Horizon Zero Dawn to run on PS4. They must have some wizards over there at Guerrilla Games.

stupidusername406d ago

It’s easy to just compare games on a surface level, but you have to take into consideration what resources the studios has. Horizon is a 212 million dollar game with full support from sony, while Dogma’s budget is quite small in comparison.

RaidenBlack406d ago

Forbidden West and dogma 2 are Not similar in terms of scope.
From the previews, it seems lots of CPU-heavy simulations are going in the background.
And lets not forget, this is from Capcom, using the RE engine. We all know how good the cross-gen RE Village and 4 Remake looks as well as how well optimized those are.

Battlestar23407d ago

Yes it's a deal breaker for me. I won't be buying this game until it's at least 50% off and i suggest others do the same. We need to shows devs releasing barely optimized games won't be tolerated.

merlox407d ago (Edited 407d ago )

Boo hoo 😭 just play the game. That is, if you call yourself a true fan of the first Dragon’s Dogma.

Barlos406d ago

So you're happy to reward bad optimisation? If you were a true fan you'd refuse to play it until the devs give us the best version that they can - the best that the game itself, and its fans deserve instead of this half baked effort.

RaidenBlack406d ago

@Barlos
we don't know how big the scope and how simulation heavy the game is ... stop jumping to conclusions this early.

ThePacemaker407d ago

Since it is uncapped, I may want to play it on PS5 Pro

Ironmike407d ago (Edited 407d ago )

Good luck with 650 pound Pro money well spent iam iam with my og ps5 30fps not a problem after 5 mins only joking by the way don't what it will cost

I never played this series but I only heard good things about it..
as a gamer who follows gaming news, I do not think capcom gave this the marketing it deserves. Still on my radar..

TheEroica80d ago

Didn't DD2 come out a year ago?

DivineHand12581d ago (Edited 81d ago )

Dragons dogma 2 is a good game. The biggest mistake Capcom made was allowing it to launch at 30 fps. When the game came out, all anyone was talking about was the performance of the game. The game has a dedicated fanbase and they should have given the sequel of the original the care it deserved.

Theyy did eventually improve the performance on console but many still do not know if you can play the game at 60 fps on base PS5 and Series X or if they need to buy a $700 console to enjoy this one game.

robtion80d ago

Yes I think the game is good but it didn't have the same impact as the original when it released. The pacing is very slow, it takes forever to travel anywhere and then what do you know, microtransactions to fast travel. Really scummy move.

MeteorPanda79d ago

....why do you lie? The stones are earned in game, if you just send ppl gifts, the max friendship is they leave gifts at your home where they leave these stones as a reward ften enough. Also there are the carts.

You ppl all attacked this game over nothing. scumbag,

Kurt Russell79d ago

I had no idea they had improved the performance, so your comment is valid to me.

Sonyslave381d ago

Damn dont expect part 3 anytime soon😔

Gamehard80d ago

The director of the series left Capcom not long ago, so I think chances were already less than slim unfortunately. :(

Gamehard80d ago

I'm a big fan of the first game, and 2 was fun first time through, but the game really could use more in the way of replay value. Still holding out hope they release a DLC similar to bitterblack isle but I'm not holding my breath.
